We investigate the equation $D=x^4-y^4$ in field extensions. As an application, for a prime number p, we find solutions to $p=x^4-y^4$ if $p\equiv 11$ (mod 16) and $p^3=x^4-y^4$ if $p\equiv 3$ (mod 16) in all cubic extensions of $\mathbb{Q}(i)$.

We prove that there exists an algorithm for determining whether two piecewise-linear spatial graphs are isomorphic. In its most general form, our theorem applies to spatial graphs furnished with vertex colourings, edge colourings and/or edge orientations.

We first show that spatial graphs admit canonical decompositions into blocks, that is, spatial graphs that are non-split and have no cut vertices, in a suitable topological sense. Then, we apply a result of Haken and Matveev in order to algorithmically distinguish these blocks.

We investigate different geometrical properties, related to Carleson measures and pseudo-hyperbolic separation, of inhomogeneous Poisson point processes on the unit disk. In particular, we give conditions so that these random sequences are almost surely interpolating for the Hardy, Bloch or weighted Dirichlet spaces.

We show that if one of various cycle types occurs in the permutation action of a finite group on the cosets of a given subgroup, then every almost conjugate subgroup is conjugate. As a number theoretic application, corresponding decomposition types of primes effect that a number field is determined by the Dedekind zeta function. As a geometric application, coverings of Riemannian manifolds with certain geodesic lifting behaviours must be isometric.

We examine a cyclic order on the directed edges of a tree whose vertices have cyclically ordered links. We use it to show that a graph of groups with left-cyclically ordered vertex groups and convex left-ordered edge groups is left-cyclically orderable.

We establish a new improvement of the classical Lp-Hardy inequality on the multidimensional Euclidean space in the supercritical case. Recently, in [14], there has been a new kind of development of the one-dimensional Hardy inequality. Using some radialisation techniques of functions and then exploiting symmetric decreasing rearrangement arguments on the real line, the new multidimensional version of the Hardy inequality is given. Some consequences are also discussed.

We consider spectral projectors associated to the Euclidean Laplacian on the two-dimensional torus, in the case where the spectral window is narrow. Bounds for their L2 to Lp operator norm are derived, extending the classical result of Sogge; a new question on the convolution kernel of the projector is introduced. The methods employed include $\ell^2$ decoupling, small cap decoupling and estimates of exponential sums.

In his 1984 AMS Memoir, Andrews introduced the family of functions $c\phi_k(n)$, the number of k-coloured generalized Frobenius partitions of n. In 2019, Chan, Wang and Yang systematically studied the arithmetic properties of $\textrm{C}\Phi_k(q)$ for $2\leq k\leq17$ by utilizing the theory of modular forms, where $\textrm{C}\Phi_k(q)$ denotes the generating function of $c\phi_k(n)$. In this paper, we first establish another expression of $\textrm{C}\Phi_{12}(q)$ with integer coefficients, then prove some congruences modulo small powers of 3 for $c\phi_{12}(n)$ by using some parameterized identities of theta functions due to A. Alaca, S. Alaca and Williams. Finally, we conjecture three families of congruences modulo powers of 3 satisfied by $c\phi_{12}(n)$.

Graph products of cyclic groups and Coxeter groups are two families of groups that are defined by labelled graphs. The family of Dyer groups contains these both families and gives us a framework to study these groups in a unified way. This paper focuses on the spherical growth series of a Dyer group D with respect to the standard generating set. We give a recursive formula for the spherical growth series of D in terms of the spherical growth series of standard parabolic subgroups. As an application we obtain the rationality of the spherical growth series of a Dyer group. Furthermore, we show that the spherical growth series of D is closely related to the Euler characteristic of D.

Strong unique continuation properties and a classification of the asymptotic profiles are established for the fractional powers of a Schrödinger operator with a Hardy-type potential, by means of an Almgren monotonicity formula combined with a blow-up analysis.

of polynomial type and let their degrees be $t^I(N) $ and $e^I(N)$. We prove that $t^I(N) = e^I(N) = \max\{\dim N, d -1 \}$. A crucial ingredient in the proof is that $D^b(A)_f$, the bounded derived category of A with finite length cohomology, has no proper thick subcategories.

We are interested in the optimal growth in terms of Lp-averages of hypercyclic and $\mathcal{U}$-frequently hypercyclic functions for some weighted Taylor shift operators acting on the space of analytic functions on the unit disc. We unify the results obtained by considering intermediate notions of upper frequent hypercyclicity between $\mathcal{U}$-frequent hypercyclicity and hypercyclicity.

Given a Gromov hyperbolic domain $G\subsetneq \mathbb{R}^n$ with uniformly perfect Gromov boundary, Zhou and Rasila recently proved that for all quasiconformal homeomorphisms $\psi\colon G\to G$ with identity value on the Gromov boundary, the quasihyperbolic displacement $k_G(x,\psi(x))$ for all $x\in G$ is bounded above. In this paper, we generalize this result and establish Teichmüller displacement theorem for quasi-isometries of Gromov hyperbolic spaces in a quantitative way. As applications, we obtain its connections to bilipschitz extensions of certain Gromov hyperbolic spaces.

Let ${\mathcal G}$ be a linear algebraic group over k, where k is an algebraically closed field, a pseudo-finite field or the valuation ring of a non-archimedean local field. Let $G= {\mathcal G}(k)$. We prove that if $\gamma\in G$ such that γ is a commutator and $\delta\in G$ such that $\langle \delta\rangle= \langle \gamma\rangle$ then δ is a commutator. This generalises a result of Honda for finite groups. Our proof uses the Lefschetz principle from first-order model theory.

We show a new method of estimating the Hausdorff measure of a set from below. The method requires computing the subsequent closest return times of a point to itself.

In this article, we introduce and study the notion of Goldie dimension for C*-algebras. We prove that a C*-algebra A has Goldie dimension n if and only if the dimension of the center of its local multiplier algebra is n. In this case, A has finite-dimensional center and its primitive spectrum is extremally disconnected. If moreover, A is extending, we show that it decomposes into a direct sum of n prime C*-algebras. In particular, every stably finite, exact C*-algebra with Goldie dimension, that has the projection property and a strictly full element, admits a full projection and a non-zero densely defined lower semi-continuous trace. Finally we show that certain C*-algebras with Goldie dimension (not necessarily simple, separable or nuclear) are classifiable by the Elliott invariant.

Let G be a finite solvable group. We prove that if $\chi\in{{\operatorname{Irr}}}(G)$ has odd degree and $\chi(1)$ is the minimal degree of the nonlinear irreducible characters of G, then $G/\operatorname{Ker}\chi$ is nilpotent-by-abelian.

Let $K_n=\mathbb{Q}(\alpha_n)$ be a family of algebraic number fields where $\alpha_n\in \mathbb{C}$ is a root of the nth exponential Taylor polynomial $\frac{x^n}{n!}+ \frac{x^{n-1}}{(n-1)!}+ \cdots +\frac{x^2}{2!}+\frac{x}{1!}+1$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$. In this paper, we give a formula for the exact power of any prime p dividing the discriminant of Kn in terms of the p-adic expansion of n. An explicit p-integral basis of Kn is also given for each prime p. These p-integral bases quickly lead to the construction of an integral basis of Kn.

The numerical range in the quaternionic setting is, in general, a non-convex subset of the quaternions. The essential numerical range is a refinement of the numerical range that only keeps the elements that have, in a certain sense, infinite multiplicity. We prove that the essential numerical range of a bounded linear operator on a quaternionic Hilbert space is convex. A quaternionic analogue of Lancaster theorem, relating the closure of the numerical range and its essential numerical range, is also provided.
