We prove that a generic homogeneous polynomial of degree $d$ is determined, up to a nonzero constant multiplicative factor, by the vector space spanned by its partial derivatives of order $k$ for $k\leqslant \frac{d}{2}-1$.

Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a locally compact quantum group and let $I$ be a closed ideal of $L^{1}(\mathbb{G})$ with $y|_{I}\neq 0$ for some $y\in \text{sp}(L^{1}(\mathbb{G}))$. In this paper, we give a characterization for compactness of $\mathbb{G}$ in terms of the existence of a weakly compact left or right multiplier $T$ on $I$ with $T(f)(y|_{I})\neq 0$ for some $f\in I$. Using this, we prove that $I$ is an ideal in its second dual if and only if $\mathbb{G}$ is compact. We also study Arens regularity of $I$ whenever it has a bounded left approximate identity. Finally, we obtain some characterizations for amenability of $\mathbb{G}$ in terms of the existence of some $I$-module homomorphisms on $I^{\ast \ast }$ and on $I^{\ast }$.

The main result of this paper is the following: any weighted Riemannian manifold $(M,g,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$, i.e., a Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ endowed with a generic non-negative Radon measure $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$, is infinitesimally Hilbertian, which means that its associated Sobolev space $W^{1,2}(M,g,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$ is a Hilbert space.

We actually prove a stronger result: the abstract tangent module (à la Gigli) associated with any weighted reversible Finsler manifold $(M,F,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$ can be isometrically embedded into the space of all measurable sections of the tangent bundle of $M$ that are $2$-integrable with respect to $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$.

By following the same approach, we also prove that all weighted (sub-Riemannian) Carnot groups are infinitesimally Hilbertian.

We formulate a coupled system of renewal equations for the forces of infections in interacting subgroups through a contact network. We use the theory of order-preserving and sub-homogeneous discrete dynamical systems to show the existence and uniqueness of the disease outbreak final sizes in the sub-populations. We illustrate the general theory through a simple SIR model with exponentially and non-exponentially distributed infectious period.

Block decomposition of $L^{p}$ spaces with weighted Hausdorff content is established for $0<p\leqslant 1$ and the Fefferman–Stein type inequalities are shown for fractional integral operators and some variants of maximal operators.

In this paper, we investigate whenever there exists a discrete set $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}$ such that $\{e^{2\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}i\langle \unicode[STIX]{x1D706},x\rangle }:\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}\in \unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}\}$ is an orthonormal basis for $L^{2}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}_{\{M_{n}\},\{{\mathcal{D}}_{n}\}})$.

In 1993, N. Danikas and A. G. Siskakis showed that the Cesàro operator ${\mathcal{C}}$ is not bounded on $H^{\infty }$; that is, ${\mathcal{C}}(H^{\infty })\nsubseteq H^{\infty }$, but ${\mathcal{C}}(H^{\infty })$ is a subset of $BMOA$. In 1997, M. Essén and J. Xiao gave that ${\mathcal{C}}(H^{\infty })\subsetneq {\mathcal{Q}}_{p}$ for every $0<p<1$. In this paper, we characterize positive Borel measures $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ such that ${\mathcal{C}}(H^{\infty })\subseteq M({\mathcal{D}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}})$ and show that ${\mathcal{C}}(H^{\infty })\subsetneq M({\mathcal{D}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}_{0}})\subsetneq \bigcap _{0<p<\infty }{\mathcal{Q}}_{p}$ by constructing some measures $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}_{0}$. Here, $M({\mathcal{D}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}})$ denotes the Möbius invariant function space generated by ${\mathcal{D}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}}$, where ${\mathcal{D}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}}$ is a Dirichlet space with superharmonic weight induced by a positive Borel measure $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ on the open unit disk. Our conclusions improve results mentioned above.

We generalize current known distribution results on Shanks–Rényi prime number races to the case where arbitrarily many residue classes are involved. Our method handles both the classical case that goes back to Chebyshev and function field analogues developed in the recent years. More precisely, let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}(x;q,a)$ be the number of primes up to $x$ that are congruent to $a$ modulo $q$. For a fixed integer $q$ and distinct invertible congruence classes $a_{0},a_{1},\ldots ,a_{D}$, assuming the generalized Riemann Hypothesis and a weak version of the linear independence hypothesis, we show that the set of real $x$ for which the inequalities $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}(x;q,a_{0})>\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}(x;q,a_{1})>\cdots >\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}(x;q,a_{D})$ are simultaneously satisfied admits a logarithmic density.

We give a characterization of all Parseval wavelet frames arising from a given frame multiresolution analysis. As a consequence, we obtain a description of all Parseval wavelet frames associated with a frame multiresolution analysis. These results are based on a version of Oblique Extension Principle with the assumption that the origin is a point of approximate continuity of the Fourier transform of the involved refinable functions. Our results are written for reducing subspaces.

Let $({\mathcal{X}},d,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$ be a metric measure space satisfying the geometrically doubling condition and the upper doubling condition. In this paper, the authors establish the John-Nirenberg inequality for the regularized BLO space $\widetilde{\operatorname{RBLO}}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$.

Let $f:X\rightarrow X$ be a quasi-finite endomorphism of an algebraic variety $X$ defined over a number field $K$ and fix an initial point $a\in X$. We consider a special case of the Dynamical Mordell–Lang Conjecture, where the subvariety $V$ contains only finitely many periodic points and does not contain any positive-dimensional periodic subvariety. We show that the set $\{n\in \mathbb{Z}_{{\geqslant}0}\mid f^{n}(a)\in V\}$ satisfies a strong gap principle.

Let ${\mathcal{A}}$ be a star-shaped polygon in the plane, with rational vertices, containing the origin. The number of primitive lattice points in the dilate $t{\mathcal{A}}$ is asymptotically $\frac{6}{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}^{2}}\text{Area}(t{\mathcal{A}})$ as $t\rightarrow \infty$. We show that the error term is both $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}_{\pm }(t\sqrt{\log \log t})$ and $O(t(\log t)^{2/3}(\log \log t)^{4/3})$. Both bounds extend (to the above class of polygons) known results for the isosceles right triangle, which appear in the literature as bounds for the error term in the summatory function for Euler’s $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}(n)$.

We prove that the HRT (Heil, Ramanathan, and Topiwala) Conjecture is equivalent to the conjecture that co-central translates of square-integrable functions on the Heisenberg group are linearly independent.

Effective and accurate high-degree spline interpolation is still a challenging task in today’s applications. Higher degree spline interpolation is not so commonly used, because it requires the knowledge of higher order derivatives at the nodes of a function on a given mesh.

In this article, our goal is to demonstrate the continuity of the piecewise polynomials and their derivatives at the connecting points, obtained with a method initially developed by Beaudoin (1998, 2003) and Beauchemin (2003). This new method, involving the discrete Fourier transform (DFT/FFT), leads to higher degree spline interpolation for equally spaced data on an interval $[0,T]$. To do this, we analyze the singularities that may occur when solving the system of equations that enables the construction of splines of any degree. We also note an important difference between the odd-degree splines and even-degree splines. These results prove that Beaudoin and Beauchemin’s method leads to spline interpolation of any degree and that this new method could eventually be used to improve the accuracy of spline interpolation in traditional problems.

Every left-invariant ordering of a group is either discrete, meaning there is a least element greater than the identity, or dense. Corresponding to this dichotomy, the spaces of left, Conradian, and bi-orderings of a group are naturally partitioned into two subsets. This note investigates the structure of this partition, specifically the set of dense orderings of a group and its closure within the space of orderings. We show that for bi-orderable groups, this closure will always contain the space of Conradian orderings—and often much more. In particular, the closure of the set of dense orderings of the free group is the entire space of left-orderings.

For any prime number $p$ and field $k$, we characterize the $p$-retract rationality of an algebraic $k$-torus in terms of its character lattice. We show that a $k$-torus is retract rational if and only if it is $p$-retract rational for every prime $p$, and that the Noether problem for retract rationality for a group of multiplicative type $G$ has an affirmative answer for $G$ if and only if the Noether problem for $p$-retract rationality for $G$ has a positive answer for all $p$. For every finite set of primes $S$ we give examples of tori that are $p$-retract rational if and only if $p\notin S$.

Taking into account the effects of patch structure and nonlinear density-dependent mortality terms, we explore a class of almost periodic Nicholson’s blowflies model in this paper. Employing the Lyapunov function method and differential inequality technique, some novel assertions are developed to guarantee the existence and exponential stability of positive almost periodic solutions for the addressed model, which generalize and refine the corresponding results in some recently published literatures. Particularly, an example and its numerical simulations are arranged to support the proposed approach.

We obtain a new lower bound on the size of the value set $\mathscr{V}(f)=f(\mathbb{F}_{p})$ of a sparse polynomial $f\in \mathbb{F}_{p}[X]$ over a finite field of $p$ elements when $p$ is prime. This bound is uniform with respect to the degree and depends on some natural arithmetic properties of the degrees of the monomial terms of $f$ and the number of these terms. Our result is stronger than those that can be extracted from the bounds on multiplicities of individual values in $\mathscr{V}(f)$.

Let $f(x)=x^{6}+ax^{4}+bx^{2}+c$ be an irreducible sextic polynomial with coefficients from a field $F$ of characteristic $\neq 2$, and let $g(x)=x^{3}+ax^{2}+bx+c$. We show how to identify the conjugacy class in $S_{6}$ of the Galois group of $f$ over $F$ using only the discriminants of $f$ and $g$ and the reducibility of a related sextic polynomial. We demonstrate that our method is useful for producing one-parameter families of even sextic polynomials with a specified Galois group.

We prove that the essential dimension of central simple algebras of degree $p^{\ell m}$ and exponent $p^{m}$ over fields $F$ containing a base-field $k$ of characteristic $p$ is at least $\ell +1$ when $k$ is perfect. We do this by observing that the $p$-rank of $F$ bounds the symbol length in $\text{Br}_{p^{m}}(F)$ and that there exist indecomposable $p$-algebras of degree $p^{\ell m}$ and exponent $p^{m}$. We also prove that the symbol length of the Kato-Milne cohomology group $\text{H}_{p^{m}}^{n+1}(F)$ is bounded from above by $\binom{r}{n}$ where $r$ is the $p$-rank of the field, and provide upper and lower bounds for the essential dimension of Brauer classes of a given symbol length.
