We determine the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of a $3$-manifold obtained by some Dehn surgery along K, where K is either the figure-eight knot or the $5_2$-knot. As in a vanishing conjecture (Benini et al. (2020, Journal of High Energy Physics 2020, 57), Gang et al. (2020, Journal of High Energy Physics 2020, 164), and Gang et al. (2021, Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics 25, 1819–1845)), we consider a similar conjecture and show that the conjecture holds for the 3-manifold.

In this paper, we give Pieri rules for skew dual immaculate functions and their recently discovered row-strict counterparts. We establish our rules using a right-action analogue of the skew Littlewood–Richardson rule for Hopf algebras of Lam–Lauve–Sottile. We also obtain Pieri rules for row-strict (dual) immaculate functions.

For $\kappa $ a regular uncountable cardinal, we show that distributivity and base trees for $P(\kappa )/{<}\kappa $ of intermediate height in the cardinal interval $[\omega , \kappa )$ exist in certain models. We also show that base trees of height $\kappa $ can exist as well as base trees of various heights $\geq \kappa ^+$ depending on the spectrum of cardinalities of towers in $P(\kappa )/{<}\kappa $.

Let f and g be analytic functions on the open unit disk ${\mathbb D}$ such that $|f|=|g|$ on a set A. We give an alternative proof of the result of Perez that there exists c in the unit circle ${\mathbb T}$ such that $f=cg$ when A is the union of two lines in ${\mathbb D}$ intersecting at an angle that is an irrational multiple of $\pi $, and from this, deduce a sequential generalization of the result. Similarly, the same conclusion is valid when f and g are in the Nevanlinna class and A is the union of the unit circle and an interior circle, tangential or not. We also provide sequential versions of this result and analyze the case $A=r{\mathbb T}$. Finally, we examine the most general situation when there is equality on two distinct circles in the disk, proving a result or counterexample for each possible configuration.

We resolve some questions posed by Handelman in 1996 concerning log convex $L^1$ functions. In particular, we give a negative answer to a question he posed concerning the integrability of $h^2(x)/h(2x)$ when h is $L^1$ and log convex and $h(n)^{1/n}\rightarrow 1$.

In this paper, we study the $(s, C(s))$-Harnack inequality in a domain $G\subset \mathbb {R}^n$ for $s\in (0,1)$ and $C(s)\geq 1$ and present a series of inequalities related to $(s, C(s))$-Harnack functions and the Harnack metric. We also investigate the behavior of the Harnack metric under K-quasiconformal and K-quasiregular mappings, where $K\geq 1$. Finally, we provide a type of harmonic Schwarz lemma and improve the Schwarz–Pick estimate for a real-valued harmonic function.

Let ${\mathcal {R}} \subset \mathbb {P}^1_{\mathbb {C}}$ be a finite subset of markings. Let G be an almost simple simply-connected algebraic group over $\mathbb {C}$. Let $K_G$ denote the compact real form of G. Suppose for each lasso l around the marked point, a conjugacy class $C_l$ in $K_G$ is prescribed. The aim of this paper is to give verifiable criteria for the existence of an irreducible homomorphism of $\pi _{1}(\mathbb P^1_{\mathbb {C}} \,{\backslash}\, {\mathcal {R}})$ into $K_G$ such that the image of l lies in $C_l$.

A digraph group is a group defined by non-empty presentation with the property that each relator is of the form $R(x, y)$, where x and y are distinct generators and $R(\cdot , \cdot )$ is determined by some fixed cyclically reduced word $R(a, b)$ that involves both a and b. Associated with each such presentation is a digraph whose vertices correspond to the generators and whose arcs correspond to the relators. In this article, we consider digraph groups for strong digraphs that are digon-free and triangle-free. We classify when the digraph group is finite and show that in these cases it is cyclic, giving its order. We apply this result to the Cayley digraph of the generalized quaternion group, to circulant digraphs, and to Cartesian and direct products of strong digraphs.

We introduce a generalization of immanants of matrices, using partition algebra characters in place of symmetric group characters. We prove that our immanant-like function on square matrices, which we refer to as the recombinant, agrees with the usual definition for immanants for the special case whereby the vacillating tableaux associated with the irreducible characters correspond, according to the Bratteli diagram for partition algebra representations, to the integer partition shapes for symmetric group characters. In contrast to previously studied variants and generalizations of immanants, as in Temperley–Lieb immanants and f-immanants, the sum that we use to define recombinants is indexed by a full set of partition diagrams, as opposed to permutations.

In this paper, we investigate the distributive properties of square-free divisors over square-full integers. We first compute the mean value of the number of such divisors and obtain the error term which appears in its asymptotic formula. We then show that if one assumes the Riemann Hypothesis, then the omega estimate of such an error term can be drastically improved. Finally, we compute the omega estimate of the mean square of such an error term.

For an elliptic curve E defined over a number field K and $L/K$ a Galois extension, we study the possibilities of the Galois group Gal$(L/K)$, when the Mordell–Weil rank of $E(L)$ increases from that of $E(K)$ by a small amount (namely 1, 2, and 3). In relation with the vanishing of corresponding L-functions at $s=1$, we prove several elliptic analogues of classical theorems related to Artin’s holomorphy conjecture. We then apply these to study the analytic minimal subfield, first introduced by Akbary and Murty, for the case when order of vanishing is 2. We also investigate how the order of vanishing changes as rank increases by 1 and vice versa, generalizing a theorem of Kolyvagin.

The paper deals with boundedness of solutions and uniform asymptotic stability of the zero solution. In our current undertaking, we aim to solve two open problems that were proposed by the author in his book Qualitative theory of Volterra difference equations (2018, Springer, Cham). Our approach centers on finding the appropriate Lyapunov functional that satisfies specific conditions, incorporating the concept of wedges.

Let $\mu $ and $\nu $ be Borel probability measures on complete separable metric spaces X and Y, respectively. Each Borel probability measure $\gamma $ on $X\times Y$ with marginals $\mu $ and $\nu $ can be described through its disintegration $\big ( \gamma _{x}\big )_{x \in X}$ with respect to the initial distribution $\mu .$ Assume that $\mu $ is continuous, i.e., $\mu \big (\{x\}\big )=0$ for all $x \in X.$ We shall analyze the structure of the support of the measure $\gamma $ provided $\text {card } \big (\mathrm{spt} (\gamma _{x}) \big )$ is finitely countable for $\mu $-a.e. $x\in X.$ We shall also provide an application to optimal mass transportation.

The article introduces and studies Hausdorff–Berezin operators on the unit ball in a complex space. These operators are a natural generalization of the Berezin transform. In addition, the class of such operators contains, for example, the invariant Green potential, and some other operators of complex analysis. Sufficient and necessary conditions for boundedness in the space of p – integrable functions with Haar measure (invariant with respect to involutive automorphisms of the unit ball) are given. We also provide results on compactness of Hausdorff–Berezin operators in Lebesgue spaces on the unit ball. Such operators have previously been introduced and studied in the context of the unit disc in the complex plane. Present work is a natural continuation of these studies.

We introduce and study the weak Glimm property for $\mathrm{C}^{*}$-algebras, and also a property we shall call (HS$_0$). We show that the properties of being nowhere scattered and residual (HS$_0$) are equivalent for any $\mathrm{C}^{*}$-algebra. Also, for a $\mathrm{C}^{*}$-algebra with the weak Glimm property, the properties of being purely infinite and weakly purely infinite are equivalent. It follows that for a $\mathrm{C}^{*}$-algebra with the weak Glimm property such that the absolute value of every nonzero, square-zero, element is properly infinite, the properties of being (weakly, locally) purely infinite, nowhere scattered, residual (HS$_0$), residual (HS$_{\text {t}}$), and residual (HI) are all equivalent, and are equivalent to the global Glimm property. This gives a partial affirmative answer to the global Glimm problem, as well as certain open questions raised by Kirchberg and Rørdam.

Let f and g be two distinct normalized primitive holomorphic cusp forms of even integral weight $k_{1}$ and $k_{2}$ for the full modular group $SL(2,\mathbb {Z})$, respectively. Suppose that $\lambda _{f\times f\times f}(n)$ and $\lambda _{g\times g\times g}(n)$ are the n-th Dirichlet coefficient of the triple product L-functions $L(s,f\times f\times f)$ and $L(s,g\times g\times g)$. In this paper, we consider the sign changes of the sequence $\{\lambda _{f\times f\times f}(n)\}_{n\geq 1}$ and $\{\lambda _{f\times f\times f}(n)\lambda _{g\times g\times g}(n)\}_{n\geq 1}$ in short intervals and establish quantitative results for the number of sign changes for $n \leq x$, which improve the previous results.

Given an integer $k\ge 2$, let $\omega _k(n)$ denote the number of primes that divide n with multiplicity exactly k. We compute the density $e_{k,m}$ of those integers n for which $\omega _k(n)=m$ for every integer $m\ge 0$. We also show that the generating function $\sum _{m=0}^\infty e_{k,m}z^m$ is an entire function that can be written in the form $\prod _{p} \bigl (1+{(p-1)(z-1)}/{p^{k+1}} \bigr )$; from this representation we show how to both numerically calculate the $e_{k,m}$ to high precision and provide an asymptotic upper bound for the $e_{k,m}$. We further show how to generalize these results to all additive functions of the form $\sum _{j=2}^\infty a_j \omega _j(n)$; when $a_j=j-1$ this recovers a classical result of Rényi on the distribution of $\Omega (n)-\omega (n)$.

We study Toeplitz operators on the space of all real analytic functions on the real line and the space of all holomorphic functions on finitely connected domains in the complex plane. In both cases, we show that the space of all Toeplitz operators is isomorphic, when equipped with the topology of uniform convergence on bounded sets, with the symbol algebra. This is surprising in view of our previous results, since we showed that the symbol map is not continuous in this topology on the algebra generated by all Toeplitz operators. We also show that in the case of the Fréchet space of all holomorphic functions on a finitely connected domain in the complex plane, the commutator ideal is dense in the algebra generated by all Toeplitz operators in the topology of uniform convergence on bounded sets.

We prove a comparison theorem between Greenberg–Benois $\mathcal {L}$-invariants and Fontaine–Mazur $\mathcal {L}$-invariants. Such a comparison theorem supplies an affirmative answer to a speculation of Besser–de Shalit.
