In this paper, we prove some convexity results associated to orbit projection of noncompact real reductive Lie groups.

We study the metric projection onto the closed convex cone in a real Hilbert space $\mathscr {H}$ generated by a sequence $\mathcal {V} = \{v_n\}_{n=0}^\infty $ . The first main result of this article provides a sufficient condition under which the closed convex cone generated by $\mathcal {V}$ coincides with the following set:

We define truncated displays over rings in which a prime $p$ is nilpotent, we associate crystals to truncated displays, and we define functors from truncated displays to truncated Barsotti–Tate groups.

We show that the bicategory of finite groupoids and right-free permutation bimodules is a quotient of the bicategory of Mackey 2-motives introduced in [2], obtained by modding out the so-called cohomological relations. This categorifies Yoshida’s theorem for ordinary cohomological Mackey functors and provides a direct connection between Mackey 2-motives and the usual blocks of representation theory.

We study a class of flat bundles, of finite rank $N$, which arise naturally from the Donaldson–Thomas theory of a Calabi–Yau threefold $X$ via the notion of a variation of BPS structure. We prove that in a large $N$ limit their flat sections converge to the solutions to certain infinite-dimensional Riemann–Hilbert problems recently found by Bridgeland. In particular this implies an expression for the positive degree, genus 0 Gopakumar–Vafa contribution to the Gromov–Witten partition function of $X$ in terms of solutions to confluent hypergeometric differential equations.

We prove that groups definable in o-minimal structures have Cartan subgroups, and only finitely many conjugacy classes of such subgroups. We also delineate with precision how these subgroups cover the ambient group.

The germ of the universal isomonodromic deformation of a logarithmic connection on a stable $n$-pointed genus $g$ curve always exists in the analytic category. The first part of this article investigates under which conditions it is the analytic germification of an algebraic isomonodromic deformation. Up to some minor technical conditions, this turns out to be the case if and only if the monodromy of the connection has finite orbit under the action of the mapping class group. The second part of this work studies the dynamics of this action in the particular case of reducible rank 2 representations and genus $g>0$, allowing to classify all finite orbits. Both of these results extend recent ones concerning the genus 0 case.

We define a notion of mixed Hodge structure with modulus that generalizes the classical notion of mixed Hodge structure introduced by Deligne and the level one Hodge structures with additive parts introduced by Kato and Russell in their description of Albanese varieties with modulus. With modulus triples of any dimension, we attach mixed Hodge structures with modulus. We combine this construction with an equivalence between the category of level one mixed Hodge structures with modulus and the category of Laumon 1-motives to generalize Kato–Russell’s Albanese varieties with modulus to 1-motives.

Let $G=GL_n(F)$, where $F$ is a $p$-adic field of characteristic zero and residual characteristic $p$. Assuming that $p>2n$, we compare germs of characters of irreducible admissible representations of $G$ with germs of characters of unipotent representations of direct products of general linear groups over finite extensions of $F$. We show that the character of an irreducible admissible representation has an $s$-asymptotic germ expansion, for some semisimple $s$ in the Lie algebra of $G$. Furthermore, this expansion matches with the $0$-asymptotic expansion (that is, the local character expansion) of the character of a unipotent representation of the centralizer of $s$ in $G$.

We consider the rigid monoidal category of character sheaves on a smooth commutative group scheme $G$ over a finite field $k$, and expand the scope of the function-sheaf dictionary from connected commutative algebraic groups to this setting. We find the group of isomorphism classes of character sheaves on $G$, and show that it is an extension of the group of characters of $G(k)$ by a cohomology group determined by the component group scheme of $G$. We also classify all morphisms in the category character sheaves on $G$. As an application, we study character sheaves on Greenberg transforms of locally finite type Néron models of algebraic tori over local fields. This provides a geometrization of quasicharacters of $p$-adic tori.

We prove bilinear estimates for the Schrödinger equation on 3D domains, with Dirichlet boundary conditions. On non-trapping domains, they match the ${ \mathbb{R} }^{3} $ case, while on bounded domains they match the generic boundaryless manifold case. We obtain, as an application, global well-posedness for the defocusing cubic NLS for data in ${ H}_{0}^{s} (\Omega )$, $1\lt s\leq 3$, with $\Omega $ any bounded domain with smooth boundary.

We finalize the analysis of the trace formula initiated in S. A. Altuğ [Beyond endoscopy via the trace formula-I: Poisson summation and isolation of special representations, Compos. Math.151(10) (2015), 1791–1820] and developed in S. A. Altuğ [Beyond endoscopy via the trace formula-II: asymptotic expansions of Fourier transforms and bounds toward the Ramanujan conjecture. Submitted, preprint, 2015, Available at: arXiv:1506.08911.pdf], and calculate the asymptotic expansion of the beyond endoscopic averages for the standard $L$-functions attached to weight $k\geqslant 3$ cusp forms on $\mathit{GL}(2)$ (cf. Theorem 1.1). This, in particular, constitutes the first example of beyond endoscopy executed via the Arthur–Selberg trace formula, as originally proposed in R. P. Langlands [Beyond endoscopy, in Contributions to Automorphic Forms, Geometry, and Number Theory, pp. 611–698 (The Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore, MD, 2004), chapter 22]. As an application we also give a new proof of the analytic continuation of the $L$-function attached to Ramanujan’s $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}$-function.

The motivic Hilbert zeta function of a variety $X$ is the generating function for classes in the Grothendieck ring of varieties of Hilbert schemes of points on $X$. In this paper, the motivic Hilbert zeta function of a reduced curve is shown to be rational.

We carry out a thorough study of weight-shifting operators on Hilbert modular forms in characteristic p, generalising the author’s prior work with Sasaki to the case where p is ramified in the totally real field. In particular, we use the partial Hasse invariants and Kodaira–Spencer filtrations defined by Reduzzi and Xiao to improve on Andreatta and Goren’s construction of partial $\Theta $ -operators, obtaining ones whose effect on weights is optimal from the point of view of geometric Serre weight conjectures. Furthermore, we describe the kernels of partial $\Theta $ -operators in terms of images of geometrically constructed partial Frobenius operators. Finally, we apply our results to prove a partial positivity result for minimal weights of mod p Hilbert modular forms.

We consider operators $ - \Delta + X $, where $ X $ is a constant vector field, in a bounded domain, and show spectral instability when the domain is expanded by scaling. More generally, we consider semiclassical elliptic boundary value problems which exhibit spectral instability for small values of the semiclassical parameter $h$, which should be thought of as the reciprocal of the Péclet constant. This instability is due to the presence of the boundary: just as in the case of $ - \Delta + X $, some of our operators are normal when considered on $\mathbb{R}^d$. We characterize the semiclassical pseudospectrum of such problems as well as the areas of concentration of quasimodes. As an application, we prove a result about exit times for diffusion processes in bounded domains. We also demonstrate instability for a class of spectrally stable nonlinear evolution problems that are associated with these elliptic operators.

Zelditch's proof of the Tian–Yau–Zelditch Theorem makes use of the Boutet de Monvel–Sjöstrand results on the asymptotic properties of Szegö projectors for strictly pseudoconvex domains. However, as we will show below, the theorem is also closely related to another theorem of Boutet de Monvel's, namely his wave trace formula for Toeplitz operators. Finally, we will derive, for the pseudoconvex manifolds considered by Zelditch in his proof of the Tian–Yau–Zelditch Theorem, an analogue of another result of Boutet de Monvel's, the extendability theorem of Berndtsson for holomorphic functions on Grauert tubes.

Let $S$ be a Shimura variety with reflex field $E$. We prove that the action of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/E)$ on $S$ maps special points to special points and special subvarieties to special subvarieties. Furthermore, the Galois conjugates of a special point all have the same complexity (as defined in the theory of unlikely intersections). These results follow from Milne and Shih’s construction of canonical models of Shimura varieties, based on a conjecture of Langlands which was proved by Borovoi and Milne.

We investigate Carlson–Griffiths’ equidistribution theory of meormorphic mappings from a complete Kähler manifold into a complex projective algebraic manifold. By using a technique of Brownian motions developed by Atsuji, we obtain a second main theorem in Nevanlinna theory provided that the source manifold is of nonpositive sectional curvature. In particular, a defect relation follows if some growth condition is imposed.

We construct an anticyclotomic Euler system for the Rankin–Selberg convolutions of two modular forms, using p-adic families of generalised Gross–Kudla–Schoen diagonal cycles. As applications of this construction, we prove new results on the Bloch–Kato conjecture in analytic ranks zero and one, and a divisibility towards an Iwasawa main conjecture.
