We show that the Galois cohomology groups of $p$-adic representations of a direct power of $\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}_{p}}/\mathbb{Q}_{p})$ can be computed via the generalization of Herr’s complex to multivariable $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D711},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4})$-modules. Using Tate duality and a pairing for multivariable $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D711},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4})$-modules we extend this to analogues of the Iwasawa cohomology. We show that all $p$-adic representations of a direct power of $\operatorname{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}_{p}}/\mathbb{Q}_{p})$ are overconvergent and, moreover, passing to overconvergent multivariable $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D711},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4})$-modules is an equivalence of categories. Finally, we prove that the overconvergent Herr complex also computes the Galois cohomology groups.

We analyze the elementary theory of certain fields $K^{\mathfrak{S}}(\boldsymbol{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}})$ of totally $\mathfrak{S}$ -adic algebraic numbers that were introduced and studied by Geyer and Jarden and by Haran, Jarden, and Pop. In particular, we provide an axiomatization of these theories and prove their decidability, thereby giving a common generalization of classical decidability results of Jarden and Kiehne, Fried, Haran, and Völklein, and Ershov.

The following theorem, which includes as very special cases results of Jouanolou and Hrushovski on algebraic $D$-varieties on the one hand, and of Cantat on rational dynamics on the other, is established: Working over a field of characteristic zero, suppose $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}_{1},\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}_{2}:Z\rightarrow X$ are dominant rational maps from an (possibly nonreduced) irreducible scheme $Z$ of finite type to an algebraic variety $X$, with the property that there are infinitely many hypersurfaces on $X$ whose scheme-theoretic inverse images under $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}_{1}$ and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}_{2}$ agree. Then there is a nonconstant rational function $g$ on $X$ such that $g\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}_{1}=g\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}_{2}$. In the case where $Z$ is also reduced, the scheme-theoretic inverse image can be replaced by the proper transform. A partial result is obtained in positive characteristic. Applications include an extension of the Jouanolou–Hrushovski theorem to generalised algebraic ${\mathcal{D}}$-varieties and of Cantat’s theorem to self-correspondences.

We say that a group G of local (maybe formal) biholomorphisms satisfies the uniform intersection property if the intersection multiplicity $(\phi (V), W)$ takes only finitely many values as a function of G for any choice of analytic sets V and W of complementary dimension. In dimension $2$ we show that G satisfies the uniform intersection property if and only if it is finitely determined – that is, if there exists a natural number k such that different elements of G have different Taylor expansions of degree k at the origin. We also prove that G is finitely determined if and only if the action of G on the space of germs of analytic curves has discrete orbits.

The Bernstein approximation problem is to determine whether or not the space of all polynomials is dense in a given weighted ${C}_{0} $-space on the real line. A theorem of de Branges characterizes non-density by existence of an entire function of Krein class being related with the weight in a certain way. An analogous result holds true for weighted sup-norm approximation by entire functions of exponential type at most $\tau $ and bounded on the real axis ($\tau \gt 0$ fixed).

We consider approximation in weighted ${C}_{0} $-spaces by functions belonging to a prescribed subspace of entire functions which is solely assumed to be invariant under division of zeros and passing from $F(z)$ to $ \overline{F( \overline{z} )} $, and establish the precise analogue of de Branges’ theorem. For the proof we follow the lines of de Branges’ original proof, and employ some results of Pitt.

We introduce a notion of ‘hereditarily antisymmetric’ operator algebras and prove a structure theorem for them in finite dimensions. We also characterize those operator algebras in finite dimensions which can be made upper triangular and prove matrix analogs of the theorems of Dilworth and Mirsky for finite posets. Some partial results are obtained in the infinite dimensional case.

The general position hypothesis needs strengthening.

We define stable homotopy refinements of Khovanov’s arc algebras and tangle invariants.

We generalise and improve some recent bounds for additive energies of modular roots. Our arguments use a variety of techniques, including those from additive combinatorics, algebraic number theory and the geometry of numbers. We give applications of these results to new bounds on correlations between Salié sums and to a new equidistribution estimate for the set of modular roots of primes.

Moduli spaces of bounded local G-shtukas are a group-theoretic generalisation of the function field analogue of Rapoport and Zink’s moduli spaces of p-divisible groups. In this article we generalise some very prominent concepts in the theory of Rapoport-Zink spaces to our setting. More precisely, we define period spaces, as well as the period map from a moduli space of bounded local G-shtukas to the corresponding period space, and we determine the image of the period map. Furthermore, we define a tower of coverings of the generic fibre of the moduli space, which is equipped with a Hecke action and an action of a suitable automorphism group. Finally, we consider the $\ell $ -adic cohomology of these towers.

Les espaces de modules de G-chtoucas locaux bornés sont une généralisation des espaces de modules de groupes p-divisibles de Rapoport-Zink, au cas d’un corps de fonctions local, pour des groupes plus généraux et des copoids pas nécessairement minuscules. Dans cet article nous définissons les espaces de périodes et l’application de périodes associés à un tel espace, et nous calculons son image. Nous étudions la tour au-dessus de la fibre générique de l’espace de modules, équipée d’une action de Hecke ainsi que d’une action d’un groupe d’automorphismes. Enfin, nous définissons la cohomologie $\ell $ -adique de ces tours.

We observe that, in the eta-periodic motivic stable homotopy category, odd rank vector bundles behave to some extent as if they had a nowhere vanishing section. We discuss some consequences concerning $\operatorname {\mathrm {SL}}^c$-orientations of motivic ring spectra and the étale classifying spaces of certain algebraic groups. In particular, we compute the classifying spaces of diagonalisable groups in the eta-periodic motivic stable homotopy category.

We investigate the translation lengths of group elements that arise in random walks on the isometry groups of Gromov hyperbolic spaces. In particular, without any moment condition, we prove that non-elementary random walks exhibit at least linear growth of translation lengths. As a corollary, almost every random walk on mapping class groups eventually becomes pseudo-Anosov, and almost every random walk on $\mathrm {Out}(F_n)$ eventually becomes fully irreducible. If the underlying measure further has finite first moment, then the growth rate of translation lengths is equal to the drift, the escape rate of the random walk.

We then apply our technique to investigate the random walks induced by the action of mapping class groups on Teichmüller spaces. In particular, we prove the spectral theorem under finite first moment condition, generalizing a result of Dahmani and Horbez.

We define cohomological complexes of locally compact abelian groups associated with varieties over p-adic fields and prove a duality theorem under some assumption. Our duality takes the form of Pontryagin duality between locally compact motivic cohomology groups.

In this paper, we prove uniform bounds for $\operatorname {GL}(3)\times \operatorname {GL}(2) \ L$-functions in the $\operatorname {GL}(2)$ spectral aspect and the t aspect by a delta method. More precisely, let $\phi $ be a Hecke–Maass cusp form for $\operatorname {SL}(3,\mathbb {Z})$ and f a Hecke–Maass cusp form for $\operatorname {SL}(2,\mathbb {Z})$ with the spectral parameter $t_f$. Then for $t\in \mathbb {R}$ and any $\varepsilon>0$, we have

Several structural results about permutation groups of finite rank definable in differentially closed fields of characteristic zero (and other similar theories) are obtained. In particular, it is shown that every finite rank definably primitive permutation group is definably isomorphic to an algebraic permutation group living in the constants. Applications include the verification, in differentially closed fields, of the finite Morley rank permutation group conjectures of Borovik-Deloro and Borovik-Cherlin. Applying the results to binding groups for internality to the constants, it is deduced that if complete types p and q are of rank m and n, respectively, and are nonorthogonal, then the $(m+3)$rd Morley power of p is not weakly orthogonal to the $(n+3)$rd Morley power of q. An application to transcendence of generic solutions of pairs of algebraic differential equations is given.

In this article, we functorially associate definable sets to $k$-analytic curves, and definable maps to analytic morphisms between them, for a large class of $k$-analytic curves. Given a $k$-analytic curve $X$, our association allows us to have definable versions of several usual notions of Berkovich analytic geometry such as the branch emanating from a point and the residue curve at a point of type 2. We also characterize the definable subsets of the definable counterpart of $X$ and show that they satisfy a bijective relation with the radial subsets of $X$. As an application, we recover (and slightly extend) results of Temkin concerning the radiality of the set of points with a given prescribed multiplicity with respect to a morphism of $k$-analytic curves. In the case of the analytification of an algebraic curve, our construction can also be seen as an explicit version of Hrushovski and Loeser’s theorem on iso-definability of curves. However, our approach can also be applied to strictly $k$-affinoid curves and arbitrary morphisms between them, which are currently not in the scope of their setting.

I construct infinitely many nondiffeomorphic examples of $5$ -dimensional contact manifolds which are tight, admit no strong fillings and do not have Giroux torsion. I obtain obstruction results for symplectic cobordisms, for which I give a proof not relying on the polyfold abstract perturbation scheme for Symplectic Field Theory (SFT). These results are part of my PhD thesis [23], and are the first applications of higher-dimensional Siefring intersection theory for holomorphic curves and hypersurfaces, as outlined in [23, 24], as a prequel to [30].

In this article, we study a Gysin triangle in the category of motives with modulus (Theorem 1.2). We can understand this Gysin triangle as a motivic lift of the Gysin triangle of log-crystalline cohomology due to Nakkajima and Shiho. After that we compare motives with modulus and Voevodsky motives (Corollary 1.6). The corollary implies that an object in $\operatorname {\mathbf {MDM}^{\operatorname {eff}}}$ decomposes into a p-torsion part and a Voevodsky motive part. We can understand the corollary as a motivic analogue of the relationship between rigid cohomology and log-crystalline cohomology.

La conjecture de Tate pour les variétés abéliennes sur les corps finis a été prouvée par Tate lui-même dans le cas d'un $H^2$, mais reste ouverte en degré supérieur. Nous démontrons ici une variante affaiblie de cette conjecture (en tout degré), qui décrit néanmoins tout cycle de Tate ‘en termes de’ cycles algébriques. Cette variante s'applique aussi aux variétés abéliennes $A$ sur un corps de type fini sur un corps fini, au moins dans le cas ‘de bonne réduction’, i.e. dans le cas où $A$ est fibre générique d'un schéma abélien sur une base projective normale sur un corps fini.

Tate's conjecture for abelian varieties over finite fields has been proven by Tate himself for $H^2$ but remains open in higher degree. We prove a weaker version of the conjecture in any degree, which describes every Tate cycle `in terms of' algebraic cycles. This variant also applies to abelian varieties $A$ over finitely generated fields of characteristic $p$, at least in the `good reduction' case, i.e. when $A$ is the generic fibre of an abelian scheme on a normal projective variety defined over a finite field.

We study $\text{Sp}_{2n}(F)$-distinction for representations of the quasi-split unitary group $U_{2n}(E/F)$ in $2n$ variables with respect to a quadratic extension $E/F$ of $p$-adic fields. A conjecture of Dijols and Prasad predicts that no tempered representation is distinguished. We verify this for a large family of representations in terms of the Mœglin–Tadić classification of the discrete series. We further study distinction for some families of non-tempered representations. In particular, we exhibit $L$-packets with no distinguished members that transfer under base change to $\text{Sp}_{2n}(E)$-distinguished representations of $\text{GL}_{2n}(E)$.
