Given a 4-manifold, we build a non-empty ${C}^{1} $-open set of vector fields having a (chain transitive) attractor containing singularities of different indices. Then, we begin the study of the hyperbolic properties of such a robust singular attractor.

We prove constancy of Newton polygons of all convergent $F$-isocrystals on Abelian varieties over finite fields. Applying the constancy, we prove the isotriviality of proper smooth families of curves over Abelian varieties. More generally, we prove the isotriviality over projective smooth varieties on which any convergent $F$-isocrystal has constant Newton polygons.

In this paper we prove the Rigidity Theorem for motives of rigid analytic varieties over a non-Archimedean valued field $K$. We prove this theorem both for motives with transfers and without transfers in a relative setting. Applications include the construction of étale realization functors, an upgrade of the known comparison between motives with and without transfers and an upgrade of the rigid analytic motivic tilting equivalence, extending them to $\mathbb{Z}[1/p]$-coefficients.

We generalize Uhlenbeck’s generator theorem of ${\mathcal{L}}^{-}\operatorname{U}_{n}$ to the full rational loop group ${\mathcal{L}}^{-}\operatorname{GL}_{n}\mathbb{C}$ and its subgroups ${\mathcal{L}}^{-}\operatorname{GL}_{n}\mathbb{R}$, ${\mathcal{L}}^{-}\operatorname{U}_{p,q}$: they are all generated by just simple projective loops. Recall that Terng–Uhlenbeck studied the dressing actions of such projective loops as generalized Bäcklund transformations for integrable systems. Our result makes a nice supplement: any rational dressing is the composition of these Bäcklund transformations. This conclusion is surprising in the sense that Lie theory suggests the indispensable role of nilpotent loops in the case of noncompact reality conditions, and nilpotent dressings appear quite complicated and mysterious. The sacrifice is to introduce some extra fake singularities. So we also propose a set of generators if fake singularities are forbidden. A very geometric and physical construction of $\operatorname{U}_{p,q}$ is obtained as a by-product, generalizing the classical construction of unitary groups.

We establish sharp bounds for the second moment of symmetric-square L-functions attached to Hecke Maass cusp forms $u_j$ with spectral parameter $t_j$, where the second moment is a sum over $t_j$ in a short interval. At the central point $s=1/2$ of the L-function, our interval is smaller than previous known results. More specifically, for $\left \lvert t_j\right \rvert $ of size T, our interval is of size $T^{1/5}$, whereas the previous best was $T^{1/3}$, from work of Lam. A little higher up on the critical line, our second moment yields a subconvexity bound for the symmetric-square L-function. More specifically, we get subconvexity at $s=1/2+it$ provided $\left \lvert t_j\right \rvert ^{6/7+\delta }\le \lvert t\rvert \le (2-\delta )\left \lvert t_j\right \rvert $ for any fixed $\delta>0$. Since $\lvert t\rvert $ can be taken significantly smaller than $\left \lvert t_j\right \rvert $, this may be viewed as an approximation to the notorious subconvexity problem for the symmetric-square L-function in the spectral aspect at $s=1/2$.

Lapid and Mao formulated a conjecture on an explicit formula of Whittaker–Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms on quasi-split reductive groups and metaplectic groups as an analogue of the Ichino–Ikeda conjecture. They also showed that this conjecture is reduced to a certain local identity in the case of unitary groups. In this article, we study the even unitary-group case. Indeed, we prove this local identity over p-adic fields. Further, we prove an equivalence between this local identity and a refined formal degree conjecture over any local field of characteristic zero. As a consequence, we prove a refined formal degree conjecture over p-adic fields and get an explicit formula of Whittaker–Fourier coefficients under certain assumptions.

We show that the subcategory of mixed Tate motives in Voevodsky’s derived category of motives is not closed under infinite products. In fact, the infinite product $\prod _{n=1}^{\infty }\mathbf{Q}(0)$ is not mixed Tate. More generally, the inclusions of several subcategories of motives do not have left or right adjoints. The proofs use the failure of finite generation for Chow groups in various contexts. In the positive direction, we show that for any scheme of finite type over a field whose motive is mixed Tate, the Chow groups are finitely generated.

This paper introduces a generalization of the $dd^c$-condition for complex manifolds. Like the $dd^c$-condition, it admits a diverse collection of characterizations, and is hereditary under various geometric constructions. Most notably, it is an open property with respect to small deformations. The condition is satisfied by a wide range of complex manifolds, including all compact complex surfaces, and all compact Vaisman manifolds. We show there are computable invariants of a real homotopy type which in many cases prohibit it from containing any complex manifold satisfying such $dd^c$-type conditions in low degrees. This gives rise to numerous examples of almost complex manifolds which cannot be homotopy equivalent to any of these complex manifolds.

The goal of this article is to extend the work of Voevodsky and Morel on the homotopy t-structure on the category of motivic complexes to the context of motives for logarithmic schemes. To do so, we prove an analogue of Morel’s connectivity theorem and show a purity statement for $({\mathbf {P}}^1, \infty )$ -local complexes of sheaves with log transfers. The homotopy t-structure on ${\operatorname {\mathbf {logDM}^{eff}}}(k)$ is proved to be compatible with Voevodsky’s t-structure; that is, we show that the comparison functor $R^{{\overline {\square }}}\omega ^*\colon {\operatorname {\mathbf {DM}^{eff}}}(k)\to {\operatorname {\mathbf {logDM}^{eff}}}(k)$ is t-exact. The heart of the homotopy t-structure on ${\operatorname {\mathbf {logDM}^{eff}}}(k)$ is the Grothendieck abelian category of strictly cube-invariant sheaves with log transfers: we use it to build a new version of the category of reciprocity sheaves in the style of Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki and Rülling.

We establish the optimal order of Malliavin-type remainders in the asymptotic density approximation formula for Beurling generalized integers. Given $\alpha \in (0,1]$ and $c>0$ (with $c\leq 1$ if $\alpha =1$), a generalized number system is constructed with Riemann prime counting function $ \Pi (x)= \operatorname {\mathrm {Li}}(x)+ O(x\exp (-c \log ^{\alpha } x ) +\log _{2}x), $ and whose integer counting function satisfies the extremal oscillation estimate $N(x)=\rho x + \Omega _{\pm }(x\exp (- c'(\log x\log _{2} x)^{\frac {\alpha }{\alpha +1}})$ for any $c'>(c(\alpha +1))^{\frac {1}{\alpha +1}}$, where $\rho>0$ is its asymptotic density. In particular, this improves and extends upon the earlier work [Adv. Math. 370 (2020), Article 107240].

In the joint work with Elmanto, Hoyois, Khan and Sosnilo, we computed infinite $\mathbb{P}^{1}$-loop spaces of motivic Thom spectra using the technique of framed correspondences. This result allows us to express non-negative $\mathbb{G}_{m}$-homotopy groups of motivic Thom spectra in terms of geometric generators and relations. Using this explicit description, we show that the unit map of the algebraic special linear cobordism spectrum induces an isomorphism on $\mathbb{G}_{m}$-homotopy sheaves.

Estimating averages of Dirichlet convolutions $1\ast \unicode[STIX]{x1D712}$, for some real Dirichlet character $\unicode[STIX]{x1D712}$ of fixed modulus, over the sparse set of values of binary forms defined over $\mathbb{Z}$ has been the focus of extensive investigations in recent years, with spectacular applications to Manin’s conjecture for Châtelet surfaces. We introduce a far-reaching generalisation of this problem, in particular replacing $\unicode[STIX]{x1D712}$ by Jacobi symbols with both arguments having varying size, possibly tending to infinity. The main results of this paper provide asymptotic estimates and lower bounds of the expected order of magnitude for the corresponding averages. All of this is performed over arbitrary number fields by adapting a technique of Daniel specific to $1\ast 1$. This is the first time that divisor sums over values of binary forms are asymptotically evaluated over any number field other than $\mathbb{Q}$. Our work is a key step in the proof, given in subsequent work, of the lower bound predicted by Manin’s conjecture for all del Pezzo surfaces over all number fields, under mild assumptions on the Picard number.

We study the derived Hall algebra of the partially wrapped Fukaya category of a surface. We give an explicit description of the Hall algebra for the disk with $m$ marked intervals and we give a conjectural description of the Hall algebras of all surfaces with enough marked intervals. Then we use a functoriality result to show that a graded version of the HOMFLY-PT skein relation holds among certain arcs in the Hall algebras of general surfaces.

In [31] we defined a regularized analytic torsion for quotients of the symmetric space $\operatorname{SL}(n,\mathbb{R})/\operatorname{SO}(n)$ by arithmetic lattices. In this paper we study the limiting behavior of the analytic torsion as the lattices run through sequences of congruence subgroups of a fixed arithmetic subgroup. Our main result states that for principal congruence subgroups and strongly acyclic flat bundles, the logarithm of the analytic torsion, divided by the index of the subgroup, converges to the $L^{2}$-analytic torsion.

We continue the research programme of comparing the complex exponential with Zilberś exponential. For the latter, we prove, using diophantine geometry, various properties about zero sets of exponential functions, proved for $\mathbb{C}$ using analytic function theory, for example, the Identity Theorem.

A method of choice for realizing finite groups as regular Galois groups over $\mathbb{Q}(T)$ is to find $\mathbb{Q}$-rational points on Hurwitz moduli spaces of covers. In another direction, the use of the so-called patching techniques has led to the realization of all finite groups over $\mathbb{Q}_p(T)$. Our main result shows that, under some conditions, these $p$-adic realizations lie on some special irreducible components of Hurwitz spaces (the so-called Harbater–Mumford components), thus connecting the two main branches of the area. As an application, we construct, for every projective system $(G_n)_{n\geq0}$ of finite groups, a tower of corresponding Hurwitz spaces $(\mathcal{H}_{G_n})_{n\geq0}$, geometrically irreducible and defined over some cyclotomic extension of $\mathbb{Q}$, which admits projective systems of $\mathbb{Q}_p^{\mathrm{ur}}$-rational points for all primes $p$ not dividing the orders $|G_n|$ ($n\geq0$).

We prove that the special-value conjecture for the zeta function of a proper, regular, flat arithmetic surface formulated in [6] at $s=1$ is equivalent to the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for the Jacobian of the generic fibre. There are two key results in the proof. The first is the triviality of the correction factor of [6, Conjecture 5.12], which we show for arbitrary regular proper arithmetic schemes. In the proof we need to develop some results for the eh-topology on schemes over finite fields which might be of independent interest. The second result is a different proof of a formula due to Geisser, relating the cardinalities of the Brauer and the Tate–Shafarevich group, which applies to arbitrary rather than only totally imaginary base fields.

In [12], Kim and the first author proved a result comparing the virtual fundamental classes of the moduli spaces of $\varepsilon $ -stable quasimaps and $\varepsilon $ -stable $LG$ -quasimaps by studying localized Chern characters for $2$ -periodic complexes.

In this paper, we study a K-theoretic analogue of the localized Chern character map and show that for a Koszul $2$ -periodic complex it coincides with the cosection-localized Gysin map of Kiem and Li [11]. As an application, we compare the virtual structure sheaves of the moduli space of $\varepsilon $ -stable quasimaps and $\varepsilon $ -stable $LG$ -quasimaps.

For a unitary unramified genuine principal series representation of a covering group, we study the associated R-group. We prove a formula relating the R-group to the dimension of the Whittaker space for the irreducible constituents of such a principal series representation. Moreover, for certain saturated covers of a semisimple simply connected group, we also propose a simpler conjectural formula for such dimensions. This latter conjectural formula is verified in several cases, including covers of the symplectic groups.
