Explicit examples of both hyperelliptic and non-hyperelliptic curves which cannot be defined over their field of moduli are known in the literature. In this paper, we construct a tower of explicit examples of such kind of curves. In that tower there are both hyperelliptic curves and non-hyperelliptic curves.

We study certain special tilting and cotilting modules for an algebra with positive dominant dimension, each of which is generated or cogenerated (and usually both) by projective-injectives. These modules have various interesting properties, for example, that their endomorphism algebras always have global dimension less than or equal to that of the original algebra. We characterise minimal d-Auslander–Gorenstein algebras and d-Auslander algebras via the property that these special tilting and cotilting modules coincide. By the Morita–Tachikawa correspondence, any algebra of dominant dimension at least 2 may be expressed (essentially uniquely) as the endomorphism algebra of a generator-cogenerator for another algebra, and we also study our special tilting and cotilting modules from this point of view, via the theory of recollements and intermediate extension functors.

In [3] E. Bishop introduced the notion of an operator with a “duality theory of type 3” and gave a certain sufficient condition for an operator to have a duality theory of type 3. In this note we show that in fact Bishop's sufficient condition implies that a given operator is decomposable [4]. Moreover, this condition characterizes a decomposable operator.

We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a positive solution of the integrodifferential equation

where nis an increasing real-valued function on the interval [0, α); that is, if and only if the characteristic equation

admits a positive root.

Consider the difference equation , where is a sequence of non-negative numbers. We prove this has positive solution if and only if the characteristic equation admits a root in (0, 1). For general results on integrodifferential equations we refer to the book by Burton [1] and the survey article by Corduneanu and Lakshmikantham [2]. Existence of a positive solution and oscillations in integrodifferential equations or in systems of integrodifferential equations recently have been investigated by Ladas, Philos and Sficas [5], Györi and Ladas [4], Philos and Sficas [12], Philos [9], [10], [11].

Recently, there has been some interest in the existence or the non-existence of positive solutions or the oscillation behavior of some difference equations. See Ladas, Philos and Sficas [6], [7].

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the positive solutions of integrodifferential equations (Section 1) and difference equations (Section 2) with unbounded delay. We obtain also some results for integrodifferential and difference inequalities.

Harte (1982, Math. Z.179, 431–436) initiated the study of Fredholm theory relative to a unital homomorphism T: A → B between unital Banach algebras A and B based on the following notions: an element a ∈ A is called Fredholm if 0 is not in the spectrum of Ta, while a is Weyl (Browder) if there exist (commuting) elements b and c in A with a = b + c such that 0 is not in the spectrum of b and c is in the null space of T. We introduce and investigate the concepts of r-Fredholm, r-Weyl and r-Browder elements, where 0 in these definitions is replaced by the spectral radii of a and b, respectively.

In recent years, certain varieties of semigroups with unary operations (of “inversion”) have received considerable attention. Generally speaking, these have been contained in one or other of the two classes of completely regular semigroups (that is, semigroups that are unions of groups) and inverse semigroups. For instances of the former see [1], [2], [3], [6], [10], [14] and [15], and for instances of the latter see [7], [8], [12] and [13].

For a Banach space $X$ we consider three ways in which a subspace of $X^*$ can represent locally the whole dual space $X^*$. We obtain characterizations in terms of ultrapowers and we study the relationship between the subspaces of $X^*$ and the subspaces of the dual of an ultrapower of $X$.

We introduce and study a fermionisation procedure for the cohomological Hall algebra $\mathcal{H}_{\Pi_Q}$ of representations of a preprojective algebra, that selectively switches the cohomological parity of the BPS Lie algebra from even to odd. We do so by determining the cohomological Donaldson–Thomas invariants of central extensions of preprojective algebras studied in the work of Etingof and Rains, via deformed dimensional reduction. Via the same techniques, we determine the Borel–Moore homology of the stack of representations of the $\unicode{x03BC}$ -deformed preprojective algebra introduced by Crawley–Boevey and Holland, for all dimension vectors. This provides a common generalisation of the results of Crawley-Boevey and Van den Bergh on the cohomology of smooth moduli schemes of representations of deformed preprojective algebras and my earlier results on the Borel–Moore homology of the stack of representations of the undeformed preprojective algebra.

The purpose of this note is to present certain aspects of the theory of spectral operators in Grothendieck spaces with the Dunford-Pettis property, briefly, GDP-spaces, thereby elaborating on the recent note [10].

For example, the sum and product of commuting spectral operators in such spaces are again spectral operators (cf. Proposition 2.1) and a continuous linear operator is spectral if and only if it has finite spectrum (cf. Proposition 2.2). Accordingly, if a spectral operator is of finite type, then its spectrum consists entirely of eigenvalues. Furthermore, it turns out that there are no unbounded spectral operators in such spaces (cf. Proposition 2.4). As a simple application of these results we are able to determine which multiplication operators in certain function spaces are spectral operators.

In [13] Mazet proved the following result.

If U is an open subset of a locally convex space E then there exists a complete locally convex space (U) and a holomorphic mapping δU: U→(U) such that for any complete locally convex space F and any f ɛ ℋ (U;F), the space of holomorphic mappings from U to F, there exists a unique linear mapping Tf: (U)→F such that the following diagram commutes;

The space (U) is unique up to a linear topological isomorphism. Previously, similar but less general constructions, have been considered by Ryan [16] and Schottenloher [17].

In this paper we apply fixed point results in ordered spaces to derive existence and comparison results for discontinuous functional integral equations of Volterra type in ordered Banach spaces. The results obtained are then applied to first order impulsive differential equations.

Prime rings came into prominence when Posner characterized prime rings satisfying a polynomial identity [9]. The scarcity of invertible central elements made it difficult to generalize results from central simple and primitive algebras to prime rings. For example, we do not automatically have tensor products at our disposal. In [5], the first author introduced the Martindale ring of quotients Q(R) of a prime ring R in his theorem characterizing prime rings satisfying a generalized polynomial identity (GPI). Q(R) is a prime ring containing R whose center C is a field called the extended centroid of R. The central closure of R is the subring RC of Q(R) generated by R and C. RC is a closed prime ring since its extended centroid equals its center C. Hence we have a useful procedure for proving results about an arbitrary prime ring R. We first answer the question for closed prime rings and then apply to R the information obtained from RC. It should be noted that simple rings and free algebras of rank at least 2 are closed prime rings. For these reasons, closed prime rings are natural objects to study.

In this paper, we show that the known models for (∞, 1)-categories can all be extended to equivariant versions for any discrete group G. We show that in two of the models we can also consider actions of any simplicial group G.

In this note a theorem, giving a relation between the Hankel transform of f(x) and Meijer's Bessel function transform of f(x)g(x), is proved. Some corollaries, obtained by specializing the function g(x), are stated as theorems. These theorems are further illustrated by certain suitable examples in which certain integrals involving products of Bessel functions or of Gauss's hypergeometric function and Appell's hypergeometric function are evaluated. Throughout this note we use the following notations:

Let w0 be a reduced expression for the longest element of the Weyl group, adapted to a quiver of type An. We compare Lusztig's and Kashiwara's (string) parametrizations on canonical basis associated with w0. Crystal operators act in a finite number of patterns in Lusztig's parametrization, which may be seen as vectors. We show that this set gives the system of defining inequalities of the string cone constructed by Gleizer and Postnikov (O. Gleizer and A Postnikov, Littlewood–Richardson coefficients via Yang–Baxter equation, IMRN14 (2000) 741–774). We use combinatorics of the Auslander–Reiten quivers, and as a by-product we get an alternative enumeration of a set of inequalities defining the string cone based on hammocks.

In this paper we study non-complemented spaces of operators and the embeddability of ℓ∞ in the spaces of operators L(X, Y), K(X, Y) and Kw*(X*, Y). Results of Bator and Lewis [2, 3] (Bull. Pol. Acad. Sci. Math.50(4) (2002), 413–416; Bull. Pol. Acad. Sci. Math.549(1) (2006), 63–73), Emmanuele [8–10] (J. Funct. Anal.99 (1991), 125–130; Math. Proc. Camb. Phil. Soc.111 (1992), 331–335; Atti. Sem. Mat. Fis. Univ. Modena42(1) (1994), 123–133), Feder [11] (Canad. Math. Bull.25 (1982), 78–81) and Kalton [16] (Math. Ann.208 (1974), 267–278), are generalised. A vector measure result is used to study the complementation of the spaces W(X, Y) and K(X, Y) in the space L(X, Y), as well as the complementation of K(X, Y) in W(X, Y). A fundamental result of Drewnowski [7] (Math. Proc. Camb. Phil. Soc. 108 (1990), 523–526) is used to establish a result for operator-valued measures, from which we obtain as corollaries the Vitali–Hahn–Saks–Nikodym theorem, the Nikodym Boundedness theorem and a Banach space version of the Phillips Lemma.

In this note I show that

where Jdenotes the Bessel function of the first kind of the orders and arguments indicated, n = 0, 1, 2, 3, … and the real parts of both μand v exceed — 1. This is a generalization of Sonine's first finite integral [1, p. 373] to which it reduces in the special case n = 0.

B. Rouxel [7] and S. J. Li and C. S. Houh [6] have generalised the notion of an -submanifold (Chen submanifold) to an k-submanifold. In [1] we have studied the relation between their definitions for the Euclidean case.

The following theorem was proved in [1].

for all x, y in X, where 0≤c<1 and p, p′, q, q′≥0 are fixed integers with p+p′, q+q′≥1. Then S and T have a unique common fixed point z. Further, if p′ or q′ = 0, then z is the unique fixed point of S and if p or q = 0, then z is the unique fixed point of T.

We consider a class of deformations of Laplace-Beltrami operators on flat and constant curvature spaces, which possess a family of commuting operators. These are built as deformations of the symmetries of the underlying geometric space. In flat spaces it is also possible to extend some symmetries into ladder operators. In all cases it is possible to choose sub-classes which are super-integrable.
