We give a complete description of quadratic twisted potential algebras on three generators as well as cubic twisted potential algebras on two generators up to graded algebra isomorphisms under the assumption that the ground field is algebraically closed and has characteristic other than 2 or 3.

Let R be a Mori domain with complete integral closure $\widehat R$, nonzero conductor $\mathfrak f = (R: \widehat R)$, and suppose that both v-class groups ${{\cal C}_v}(R)$ and ${{\cal C}_v}(3\widehat R)$ are finite. If $R \mathfrak f$ is finite, then the elasticity of R is either rational or infinite. If $R \mathfrak f$ is artinian, then unions of sets of lengths of R are almost arithmetical progressions with the same difference and global bound. We derive our results in the setting of v-noetherian monoids.

It has been well established that congruences between automorphic forms have far-reaching applications in arithmetic. In this paper, we construct congruences for Siegel–Hilbert modular forms defined over a totally real field of class number 1. As an application of this general congruence, we produce congruences between paramodular Saito–Kurokawa lifts and non-lifted Siegel modular forms. These congruences are used to produce evidence for the Bloch–Kato conjecture for elliptic newforms of square-free level and odd functional equation.

Let γn = [x1,…,xn] be the nth lower central word. Denote by Xn the set of γn -values in a group G and suppose that there is a number m such that $|{g^{{X_n}}}| \le m$ for each g ∈ G. We prove that γn+1(G) has finite (m, n) -bounded order. This generalizes the much-celebrated theorem of B. H. Neumann that says that the commutator subgroup of a BFC-group is finite.

The theory of isoparametric functions and a family of isoparametric hypersurfaces began essentially with E. Cartan in 1930's. He defined a real valued function V defined on a Riemannian space form to be isoparametric if ∥grad υ∥2=TV and ΔV = SV for some real valued functions S, T. Then a family of hypersurfaces Mt, is called isoparametric if Mt,=V-1 (t) where t is a regular value of V.

In recent years various authors have studied integral operators involving confluent hypergeometric functions Mκ,μ and Wκ,μ. Using the method devised by Fox [2], Saxena [5] obtained the inverse of an integral operator with kernel (xt) μ− ½e− ½xtWκ,μ (xt). Singh [6] derived the solution of an integral equation of convolution type with kernel

Suppose that G is a finitely presented group, and that we are given a set of generators for a subgroup H of finite index in G. In this paper we describe an algorithm by which a set of defining relations may be found for H in these generators.

The algorithm is suitable for programming on a digital computer. It appears to have significant computational advantages over the method of Mendelsohn [8] (which is based on the Schreier-Reidemeister results, see for example [4, pp. 91–95]) in those cases where the generators of H are given as other than the familiar Schreier-Reidemeister generators.

Let q > 1 be an odd integer and c be a fixed integer with (c, q) = 1. For each integer a with 1 ≤ a ≤ q − 1, it is clear that there exists one and only one b with 0 ≤ b ≤ q − 1 such that ab ≡ c (mod q). Let N(c, q) denotes the number of all solutions of the congruence equation ab ≡ c (mod q) for 1 ≤ a, b ≤ q − 1 in which a and b are of opposite parity, where b is defined by the congruence equation bb ≡ 1(modq). The main purpose of this paper is using the mean value theorem of Dirichlet L-functions to study the mean value properties of a summation involving (N(c, q) − φ(q)) and Ramanujan's sum, and give two exact computational formulae.

Let R be a commutative, semi-local ring. Let On,n be the group of linear automorphisms of R2n which preserve the bilinear form . The main result of this paper is the following theorem.

Theorem A. The natural inclusion of Onn into On,n into On+1,n+1induces an isomorphism on the ith homology group if only n is large enough with respect to i.

In this paper we show that there are no real hypersurfaces in a non-flat complex space form with recurrent Ricci tensor.

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate some natural problems regarding the order structure of representable functionals on *-algebras. We describe the extreme points of order intervals, and give a non-trivial sufficient condition to decide whether or not the infimum of two representable functionals exists. To this aim, we offer a suitable approach to the Lebesgue decomposition theory, which is in complete analogy with the one developed by Ando in the context of positive operators. This tight analogy allows to invoke Ando's results to characterize uniqueness of the decomposition, and solve the infimum problem over certain operator algebras.

In 2014, the first two authors proved an extension to modules of a theorem of Camillo and Yu that an exchange ring has stable range 1 if and only if every regular element is unit-regular. Here, we give a Morita context version of a stronger theorem. The definition of regular elements in a module goes back to Zelmanowitz in 1972, but the notion of a unit-regular element in a module is new. In this paper, we study unit-regular elements and give several characterizations of them in terms of “stable” elements and “lifting” elements. Along the way, we give natural extensions to the module case of many results about unit-regular rings. The paper concludes with a discussion of when the endomorphism ring of a unit-regular module is a unit-regular ring.

We extend the local non-homogeneous Tb theorem of Nazarov, Treil and Volberg to the setting of singular integrals with operator-valued kernel that act on vector-valued functions. Here, ‘vector-valued’ means ‘taking values in a function lattice with the UMD (unconditional martingale differences) property’. A similar extension (but for general UMD spaces rather than UMD lattices) of Nazarov-Treil-Volberg's global non-homogeneous Tb theorem was achieved earlier by the first author, and it has found applications in the work of Mayboroda and Volberg on square-functions and rectifiability. Our local version requires several elaborations of the previous techniques, and raises new questions about the limits of the vector-valued theory.

A permutation group is quasiregular if it acts regularly on each of its orbits (i.e. the stabiliser of an element fixes every other element in its orbit). So, in particular, any permutation representation of an abelian or hamiltonian group must be quasiregular.

In the last few years, there has been considerable interest in the properties of orthogonal polynomials satisfying differential equations (DE) of order greater than two, their connection to singular boundary value problems, their generalizations, and their classification as solutions of second order DE (see for instance [2–8]). In this last interesting problem, some known facts about the classical orthogonal polynomials can be incorporated to connect these two sets of families and yield some nontrivial results in a very simple way. In this paper we only work with the nonclassical Jacobi type, Laguerre type and Legendre type polynomials, and we show how they can be connected with the classical Jacobi, Laguerre and Legendre polynomials, respectively; at the same time we obtain certain bounds for the zeros of the first ones by using a system of nonlinear equations satisfied by the zeros of any polynomial solution of a second order differential equation which, for the classical polynomials is known since Stieltjes and concerns the electrostatic interpretation of the zeros [10, Section 6.7; 9,1]. We also correct an expression for the second order differential equation of the Legendre type polynomials that circulates through the literature.

We study an interesting class of Banach function algebras of infinitely differentiable functions on perfect, compact plane sets. These algebras were introduced by H. G. Dales and A. M. Davie in 1973, called Dales-Davie algebras and denoted by D(X, M), where X is a perfect, compact plane set and M = {M n }∞ n = 0 is a sequence of positive numbers such that M 0 = 1 and (m + n)!/M m+n ≤ (m!/M m )(n!/M n ) for m, n ∈ N. Let d = lim sup(n!/Mn )1/n and Xd = {z ∈ C : dist(z, X) ≤ d}. We show that, under certain conditions on X, every f ∈ D(X, M) has an analytic extension to X d . Let DP [D R ]) be the subalgebra of all f ∈ D(X, M) that can be approximated by the restriction to X of polynomials [rational functions with poles off X]. We show that the maximal ideal space of D P is , the polynomial convex hull of X d , and the maximal ideal space of D R is X d . Using some formulae from combinatorial analysis, we find the maximal ideal space of certain subalgebras of Dales-Davie algebras.
