A category structure for ordered Bratteli diagrams is proposed in which isomorphism coincides with the notion of equivalence of Herman, Putnam, and Skau. It is shown that the natural one-to-one correspondence between the category of Cantor minimal systems and the category of simple properly ordered Bratteli diagrams is in fact an equivalence of categories. This gives a Bratteli–Vershik model for factor maps between Cantor minimal systems. We give a construction of factor maps between Cantor minimal systems in terms of suitable maps (called premorphisms) between the corresponding ordered Bratteli diagrams, and we show that every factor map between two Cantor minimal systems is obtained in this way. Moreover, solving a natural question, we are able to characterize Glasner and Weiss’s notion of weak orbit equivalence of Cantor minimal systems in terms of the corresponding C*-algebra crossed products.

We enumerate factorizations of a Coxeter element in a well-generated complex reflection group into arbitrary factors, keeping track of the fixed space dimension of each factor. In the infinite families of generalized permutations, our approach is fully combinatorial. It gives results analogous to those of Jackson in the symmetric group and can be refined to encode a notion of cycle type. As one application of our results, we give a previously overlooked characterization of the poset of W-noncrossing partitions.

We introduce a class of notions of forcing which we call $\Sigma $ -Prikry, and show that many of the known Prikry-type notions of forcing that centers around singular cardinals of countable cofinality are $\Sigma $ -Prikry. We show that given a $\Sigma $ -Prikry poset $\mathbb P$ and a name for a non-reflecting stationary set T, there exists a corresponding $\Sigma $ -Prikry poset that projects to $\mathbb P$ and kills the stationarity of T. Then, in a sequel to this paper, we develop an iteration scheme for $\Sigma $ -Prikry posets. Putting the two works together, we obtain a proof of the following.

Theorem. If $\kappa $ is the limit of a countable increasing sequence of supercompact cardinals, then there exists a forcing extension in which $\kappa $ remains a strong limit cardinal, every finite collection of stationary subsets of $\kappa ^+$ reflects simultaneously, and $2^\kappa =\kappa ^{++}$ .

In this paper, we study the chord index of virtual knots, which can be thought of as an extension of the chord parity. We show how to use the chord index to enhance the quandle coloring invariants. The notion of indexed quandle is introduced, which generalizes the quandle idea. Some applications of this new invariant is discussed. We also study how to define a generalized chord index via a fixed finite biquandle. Finally, the chord index and its applications in twisted knot theory are discussed.

In the mid 80’s Conner and Perlis showed that for cyclic number fields of prime degree p the isometry class of integral trace is completely determined by the discriminant. Here we generalize their result to tame cyclic number fields of arbitrary degree. Furthermore, for such fields, we give an explicit description of a Gram matrix of the integral trace in terms of the discriminant of the field.

Our analysis will consist in the boundedness, in $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ and in $BMO(\mathbb{R}^{n})$, of the operators $T_{N}^{{\mathcal{L}}}$ and its maximal operator $T^{\ast }f(x)=\sup _{N}T_{N}^{{\mathcal{L}}}f(x)$.

It is also shown that the local size of the maximal differential transform operators (with $V=0$) is the same with the order of a singular integral for functions $f$ having local support. Moreover, if ${\{v_{j}\}}_{j\in \mathbb{Z}}\in \ell ^{p}(\mathbb{Z})$, we get an intermediate size between the local size of singular integrals and Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator.

The aim of this paper is to study circular units in the compositum K of t cyclic extensions of ${\mathbb {Q}}$ ( $t\ge 2$ ) of the same odd prime degree $\ell $ . If these fields are pairwise arithmetically orthogonal and the number s of primes ramifying in $K/{\mathbb {Q}}$ is larger than $t,$ then a nontrivial root $\varepsilon $ of the top generator $\eta $ of the group of circular units of K is constructed. This explicit unit $\varepsilon $ is used to define an enlarged group of circular units of K, to show that $\ell ^{(s-t)\ell ^{t-1}}$ divides the class number of K, and to prove an annihilation statement for the ideal class group of K.

We introduce two new bases of the ring of polynomials and study their relations to known bases. The first basis is the quasi-Lascoux basis, which is simultaneously both a $K$-theoretic deformation of the quasi-key basis and also a lift of the $K$-analogue of the quasi-Schur basis from quasi-symmetric polynomials to general polynomials. We give positive expansions of this quasi-Lascoux basis into the glide and Lascoux atom bases, as well as a positive expansion of the Lascoux basis into the quasi-Lascoux basis. As a special case, these expansions give the first proof that the $K$-analogues of quasi-Schur polynomials expand positively in multifundamental quasi-symmetric polynomials of T. Lam and P. Pylyavskyy.

The second new basis is the kaon basis, a $K$-theoretic deformation of the fundamental particle basis. We give positive expansions of the glide and Lascoux atom bases into this kaon basis.

Throughout, we explore how the relationships among these $K$-analogues mirror the relationships among their cohomological counterparts. We make several “alternating sum” conjectures that are suggestive of Euler characteristic calculations.

We define a limiting ${\mathfrak {sl}_N}$ Khovanov–Rozansky homology for semi-infinite positive multicolored braids. For a large class of such braids, we show that this limiting homology categorifies a highest-weight projector in the tensor product of fundamental representations determined by the coloring of the braid. This effectively completes the extension of Cautis’ similar result for infinite twist braids, begun in our earlier papers with Islambouli and Abel. We also present several similar results for other families of semi-infinite and bi-infinite multicolored braids.

The classical Gauss–Lucas theorem states that the critical points of a polynomial with complex coefficients are in the convex hull of its zeros. This fundamental theorem follows from the fact that if all the zeros of a polynomial are in a half plane, then the same is true for its critical points. The main result of this work replaces the half plane with a sector as follows.

We show that if the coefficients of a monic polynomial $p(z)$ are in the sector {tei𝜓 : 𝜓∈ [0, 𝜙], t⩾0}, for some $\unicode[STIX]{x1D719}\in [0,\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B})$, and the zeros are not in its interior, then the critical points of $p(z)$ are also not in the interior of that sector.

In addition, we give a necessary condition for a polynomial to satisfy the premise of the main result.

We prove the existence of a one-parameter family of nearly parallel G2-structures on the manifold $\text{S}^{3}\times \mathbb{R}^{4}$, which are mutually non-isomorphic and invariant under the cohomogeneity one action of the group SU(2)3. This family connects the two locally homogeneous nearly parallel G2-structures that are induced by the homogeneous ones on the sphere S7.

A ring $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}$ is called right Köthe if every right $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}$-module is a direct sum of cyclic modules. In this paper, we give a characterization of basic hereditary right Köthe rings in terms of their Coxeter valued quivers. We also give a characterization of basic right Köthe rings with radical square zero. Therefore, we give a solution to Köthe’s problem in these two cases.

Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb {R}^N$ , $N\geq 2$ , be an open bounded connected set. We consider the fractional weighted eigenvalue problem $(-\Delta )^s u =\lambda \rho u$ in $\Omega $ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, where $(-\Delta )^s$ , $s\in (0,1)$ , is the fractional Laplacian operator, $\lambda \in \mathbb {R}$ and $ \rho \in L^\infty (\Omega )$ .

We study weak* continuity, convexity and Gâteaux differentiability of the map $\rho \mapsto 1/\lambda _1(\rho )$ , where $\lambda _1(\rho )$ is the first positive eigenvalue. Moreover, denoting by $\mathcal {G}(\rho _0)$ the class of rearrangements of $\rho _0$ , we prove the existence of a minimizer of $\lambda _1(\rho )$ when $\rho $ varies on $\mathcal {G}(\rho _0)$ . Finally, we show that, if $\Omega $ is Steiner symmetric, then every minimizer shares the same symmetry.

We show that the Mallows measure on permutations of $1,\dots ,n$ arises as the law of the unique Gale–Shapley stable matching of the random bipartite graph with vertex set conditioned to be perfect, where preferences arise from the natural total ordering of the vertices of each gender but are restricted to the (random) edges of the graph. We extend this correspondence to infinite intervals, for which the situation is more intricate. We prove that almost surely, every stable matching of the random bipartite graph obtained by performing Bernoulli percolation on the complete bipartite graph $K_{{\mathbb Z},{\mathbb Z}}$ falls into one of two classes: a countable family $(\sigma _n)_{n\in {\mathbb Z}}$ of tame stable matchings, in which the length of the longest edge crossing k is $O(\log |k|)$ as $k\to \pm \infty $ , and an uncountable family of wild stable matchings, in which this length is $\exp \Omega (k)$ as $k\to +\infty $ . The tame stable matching $\sigma _n$ has the law of the Mallows permutation of ${\mathbb Z}$ (as constructed by Gnedin and Olshanski) composed with the shift $k\mapsto k+n$ . The permutation $\sigma _{n+1}$ dominates $\sigma _{n}$ pointwise, and the two permutations are related by a shift along a random strictly increasing sequence.

Let $v \ne 0$ be a vector in ${\mathbb {R}}^n$ . Consider the Laplacian on ${\mathbb {R}}^n$ with drift $\Delta _{v} = \Delta + 2v\cdot \nabla $ and the measure $d\mu (x) = e^{2 \langle v, x \rangle } dx$ , with respect to which $\Delta _{v}$ is self-adjoint. This measure has exponential growth with respect to the Euclidean distance. We study weak type $(1, 1)$ and other sharp endpoint estimates for the Riesz transforms of any order, and also for the vertical and horizontal Littlewood–Paley–Stein functions associated with the heat and the Poisson semigroups.

We show that there is an absolute $c>0$ such that if $A$ is a finite set of integers, then there is a set $S\subset A$ of size at least $\log ^{1+c}|A|$ such that the restricted sumset $\{s+s^{\prime }:s,s^{\prime }\in S\text{ and }s\neq s^{\prime }\}$ is disjoint from $A$. (The logarithm here is to base $3$.)

A classical theorem of Frei states that if $A_p$ is the last transcendental function in the sequence $A_0,\ldots ,A_{n-1}$ of entire functions, then each solution base of the differential equation $f^{(n)}+A_{n-1}f^{(n-1)}+\cdots +A_{1}f'+A_{0}f=0$ contains at least $n-p$ entire functions of infinite order. Here, the transcendental coefficient $A_p$ dominates the growth of the polynomial coefficients $A_{p+1},\ldots ,A_{n-1}$ . By expressing the dominance of $A_p$ in different ways and allowing the coefficients $A_{p+1},\ldots ,A_{n-1}$ to be transcendental, we show that the conclusion of Frei’s theorem still holds along with an additional estimation on the asymptotic lower bound for the growth of solutions. At times, these new refined results give a larger number of linearly independent solutions of infinite order than the original theorem of Frei. For such solutions, we show that $0$ is the only possible finite deficient value. Previously, this property has been known to hold for so-called admissible solutions and is commonly cited as Wittich’s theorem. Analogous results are discussed for linear differential equations in the unit disc, as well as for complex difference and complex q-difference equations.

We study bundles on projective spaces that have vanishing lower cohomologies using their short minimal free resolutions. We partition the moduli $\mathcal{M}$ according to the Hilbert function H and classify all possible Hilbert functions H of such bundles. For each H, we describe a stratification of $\mathcal{M}_H$ by quotients of rational varieties. We show that the closed strata form a graded lattice given by the Betti numbers.
