Let $W_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}}$ be the lattice Lie algebra of Witt type associated with an additive inclusion $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}:\mathbb{Z}^{N}{\hookrightarrow}\mathbb{C}^{2}$ with $N>1$. In this article, the classification of simple $\mathbb{Z}^{N}$-graded $W_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}}$-modules, whose multiplicities are uniformly bounded, is given.

In this paper, we completely solve the $L^{2}\to L^{r}$ extension conjecture for the zero radius sphere over finite fields. We also obtain the sharp $L^{p}\to L^{4}$ extension estimate for non-zero radii spheres over finite fields, which improves the previous result of the first and second authors significantly.

Bernstein, Frenkel, and Khovanov have constructed a categorification of tensor products of the standard representation of $\mathfrak {sl}_2$ , where they use singular blocks of category $\mathcal {O}$ for $\mathfrak {sl}_n$ and translation functors. Here we construct a positive characteristic analogue using blocks of representations of $\mathfrak {s}\mathfrak {l}_n$ over a field $\mathbf {k}$ of characteristic p with zero Frobenius character, and singular Harish-Chandra character. We show that the aforementioned categorification admits a Koszul graded lift, which is equivalent to a geometric categorification constructed by Cautis, Kamnitzer, and Licata using coherent sheaves on cotangent bundles to Grassmanians. In particular, the latter admits an abelian refinement. With respect to this abelian refinement, the stratified Mukai flop induces a perverse equivalence on the derived categories for complementary Grassmanians. This is part of a larger project to give a combinatorial approach to Lusztig’s conjectures for representations of Lie algebras in positive characteristic.

We study immersed surfaces in ${\mathbb R}^3$ that are critical points of the Willmore functional under boundary constraints. The two cases considered are when the surface meets a plane orthogonally along the boundary and when the boundary is contained in a line. In both cases we derive weak forms of the resulting free boundary conditions and prove regularity by reflection.

We prove that every automorphism of an infinite-dimensional vector space over a field is the product of four involutions, a result that is optimal in the general case. We also characterize the automorphisms that are the product of three involutions. More generally, we study decompositions of automorphisms into three or four factors with prescribed split annihilating polynomials of degree $2$.

We study the variations of mixed Hodge structures (VMHS) associated with a pencil ${\mathcal{X}}$ of equisingular hypersurfaces of degree $d$ in $\mathbb{P}^{4}$ with only ordinary double points as singularities, as well as the variations of Hodge structures (VHS) associated with the desingularization of this family $\widetilde{{\mathcal{X}}}$. The notion of a set of singular points being in homologically good position is introduced, and, by requiring that the subset of nodes in (algebraic) general position is also in homologically good position, we can extend Griffiths’ description of the $F^{2}$-term of the Hodge filtration of the desingularization to this case, where we can also determine the possible limiting mixed Hodge structures (LMHS). The particular pencil ${\mathcal{X}}$ of quintic hypersurfaces with 100 singular double points with 86 of them in (algebraic) general position that served as the starting point for this paper is treated with particular attention.

A new characterization of $\text {CMO}(\mathbb R^n)$ is established replying upon local mean oscillations. Some characterizations of iterated compact commutators on weighted Lebesgue spaces are given, which are new even in the unweighted setting for the first order commutators.

Let A be a symmetrisable generalised Cartan matrix, and let $\mathfrak {g}(A)$ be the corresponding Kac–Moody algebra. In this paper, we address the following fundamental question on the structure of $\mathfrak {g}(A)$ : given two homogeneous elements $x,y\in \mathfrak {g}(A)$ , when is their bracket $[x,y]$ a nonzero element? As an application of our results, we give a description of the solvable and nilpotent graded subalgebras of $\mathfrak {g}(A)$ .

Higher dimensional analogues of the modular group $\mathit{PSL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$ are closely related to hyperbolic reflection groups and Coxeter polyhedra with big symmetry groups. In this context, we develop a theory and dissection properties of ideal hyperbolic $k$-rectified regular polyhedra, which is of independent interest. As an application, we can identify the covolumes of the quaternionic modular groups with certain explicit rational multiples of the Riemann zeta value $\unicode[STIX]{x1D701}(3)$.

In this paper, we investigate noncommutative symmetric and asymmetric maximal inequalities associated with martingale transforms and fractional integrals. Our proofs depend on some recent advances on algebraic atomic decomposition and the noncommutative Gundy decomposition. We also prove several fractional maximal inequalities.

We construct quantum invariants of balanced sutured 3-manifolds with a ${\text {Spin}^c}$ structure out of an involutive (possibly nonunimodular) Hopf superalgebra H. If H is the Borel subalgebra of ${U_q(\mathfrak {gl}(1|1))}$ , we show that our invariant is computed via Fox calculus, and it is a normalization of Reidemeister torsion. The invariant is defined via a modification of a construction of Kuperberg, where we use the ${\text {Spin}^c}$ structure to take care of the nonunimodularity of H or $H^{*}$ .

Let f and g be two cuspidal modular forms and let ${\mathcal {F}}$ be a Coleman family passing through f, defined over an open affinoid subdomain V of weight space $\mathcal {W}$ . Using ideas of Pottharst, under certain hypotheses on f and $g,$ we construct a coherent sheaf over $V \times \mathcal {W}$ that interpolates the Bloch–Kato Selmer group of the Rankin–Selberg convolution of two modular forms in the critical range (i.e, the range where the p-adic L-function $L_p$ interpolates critical values of the global L-function). We show that the support of this sheaf is contained in the vanishing locus of $L_p$ .

We observe an inductive structure in a large class of Artin groups of finite real, complex and affine types and exploit this information to deduce the Farrell–Jones isomorphism conjecture for these groups.

We prove a “splicing formula” for the LMO invariant, which is the universal finite-type invariant of rational homology three-spheres. Specifically, if a rational homology three-sphere M is obtained by gluing the exteriors of two framed knots $K_1 \subset M_1$ and $K_2\subset M_2$ in rational homology three-spheres, our formula expresses the LMO invariant of M in terms of the Kontsevich–LMO invariants of $(M_1,K_1)$ and $(M_2,K_2)$ . The proof uses the techniques that Bar-Natan and Lawrence developed to obtain a rational surgery formula for the LMO invariant. In low degrees, we recover Fujita’s formula for the Casson–Walker invariant, and we observe that the second term of the Ohtsuki series is not additive under “standard” splicing. The splicing formula also works when each $M_i$ comes with a link $L_i$ in addition to the knot $K_i$ , hence we get a “satellite formula” for the Kontsevich–LMO invariant.

We give a complete description of a basis of the extension spaces between indecomposable string and quasi-simple band modules in the module category of a gentle algebra.

We investigate the concept of orbital free entropy from the viewpoint of the matrix liberation process. We will show that many basic questions around the definition of orbital free entropy are reduced to the question of full large deviation principle for the matrix liberation process. We will also obtain a large deviation upper bound for a certain family of random matrices that is essential to define the orbital free entropy. The resulting rate function is made up into a new approach to free mutual information.

We construct a scheme $B(r; {\mathbb {A}}^n)$ such that a map $X \to B(r; {\mathbb {A}}^n)$ corresponds to a degree-n étale algebra on X equipped with r generating global sections. We then show that when $n=2$ , i.e., in the quadratic étale case, the singular cohomology of $B(r; {\mathbb {A}}^n)({\mathbb {R}})$ can be used to reconstruct a famous example of S. Chase and to extend its application to showing that there is a smooth affine $r-1$ -dimensional ${\mathbb {R}}$ -variety on which there are étale algebras ${\mathcal {A}}_n$ of arbitrary degrees n that cannot be generated by fewer than r elements. This shows that in the étale algebra case, a bound established by U. First and Z. Reichstein in [6] is sharp.

We correct an error in the statement in a proposition and a theorem in Jiang–Su absorption for inclusions of unital C*-algebras. Canad. J. Math. 70(2018), 400–425. This error was found by Dr. M. Ali Asadi-Vasfi and communicated to the authors by N. Christopher Phillips of the University of Oregon, who also suggested the outline for the following correct proofs.
