Let $m\leqslant n\in \mathbb {N}$, and $G\leqslant \operatorname {Sym}(m)$ and $H\leqslant \operatorname {Sym}(n)$. In this article, we find conditions enabling embeddings between the symmetric R. Thompson groups ${V_m(G)}$ and ${V_n(H)}$. When $n\equiv 1 \mod (m-1)$, and under some other technical conditions, we find an embedding of ${V_n(H)}$ into ${V_m(G)}$ via topological conjugation. With the same modular condition, we also generalize a purely algebraic construction of Birget from 2019 to find a group $H\leqslant \operatorname {Sym}(n)$ and an embedding of ${V_m(G)}$ into ${V_n(H)}$.

Let $G= SL_{n+1}$ be defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 2$. For each $n \geq 1$, there exists a singular block in the category of $G_1$-modules, which contains precisely $n+1$ irreducible modules. We are interested in the ‘lift’ of this block to the category of $G_1T$-modules. Imposing only mild assumptions on $p$, we will perform a number of calculations in this setting, including a complete determination of the Loewy series for the baby Verma modules and all possible extensions between the irreducible modules. In the case where $p$ is extremely large, we will also explicitly compute the Loewy series for the indecomposable projective modules.

A linear growth-diffusion equation is studied in a time-dependent interval whose location and length both vary. We prove conditions on the boundary motion for which the solution can be found in exact form and derive the explicit expression in each case. Next, we prove the precise behaviour near the boundary in a ‘critical’ case: when the endpoints of the interval move in such a way that near the boundary there is neither exponential growth nor decay, but the solution behaves like a power law with respect to time. The proof uses a subsolution based on the Airy function with argument depending on both space and time. Interesting links are observed between this result and Bramson's logarithmic term in the nonlinear FKPP equation on the real line. Each of the main theorems is extended to higher dimensions, with a corresponding result on a ball with a time-dependent radius.

In this paper, we give a generalization and improvement of the Pavlović result on the characterization of continuously differentiable functions in the Bloch space on the unit ball in $\mathbb {R}^{m}$. Then, we derive a Holland–Walsh type theorem for analytic normal mappings on the unit disk.

We show that some results of L. Makar-Limanov, P. Malcolmson and Z. Reichstein on the existence of free-associative algebras are valid in the more general context of varieties of algebras.

Given groups $A$ and $B$, what is the minimal commutator length of the 2020th (for instance) power of an element $g\in A*B$ not conjugate to elements of the free factors? The exhaustive answer to this question is still unknown, but we can give an almost answer: this minimum is one of two numbers (simply depending on $A$ and $B$). Other similar problems are also considered.

Let $\mathcal {O}(\pi )$ denote the number of odd parts in an integer partition $\pi$. In 2005, Stanley introduced a new statistic $\operatorname {srank}(\pi )=\mathcal {O}(\pi )-\mathcal {O}(\pi ')$, where $\pi '$ is the conjugate of $\pi$. Let $p(r,\,m;n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ with srank congruent to $r$ modulo $m$. Generating function identities, congruences and inequalities for $p(0,\,4;n)$ and $p(2,\,4;n)$ were then established by a number of mathematicians, including Stanley, Andrews, Swisher, Berkovich and Garvan. Motivated by these works, we deduce some generating functions and inequalities for $p(r,\,m;n)$ with $m=16$ and $24$. These results are refinements of some inequalities due to Swisher.

A thin Lie algebra is a Lie algebra $L$, graded over the positive integers, with its first homogeneous component $L_1$ of dimension two and generating $L$, and such that each non-zero ideal of $L$ lies between consecutive terms of its lower central series. All homogeneous components of a thin Lie algebra have dimension one or two, and the two-dimensional components are called diamonds. Suppose the second diamond of $L$ (that is, the next diamond past $L_1$) occurs in degree $k$. We prove that if $k>5$, then $[Lyy]=0$ for some non-zero element $y$ of $L_1$. In characteristic different from two this means $y$ is a sandwich element of $L$. We discuss the relevance of this fact in connection with an important theorem of Premet on sandwich elements in modular Lie algebras.

Let $F$ be an infinite field of positive characteristic $p > 2$ and let $G$ be a group. In this paper, we study the graded identities satisfied by an associative algebra equipped with an elementary $G$-grading. Let $E$ be the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra. For every $a$, $b\in \mathbb {N}$, we provide a basis for the graded polynomial identities, up to graded monomial identities, for the verbally prime algebras $M_{a,b}(E)$, as well as their tensor products, with their elementary gradings. Moreover, we give an alternative proof of the fact that the tensor product $M_{a,b}(E)\otimes M_{r,s}(E)$ and $M_{ar+bs,as+br}(E)$ are $F$-algebras which are not PI equivalent. Actually, we prove that the $T_{G}$-ideal of the former algebra is contained in the $T$-ideal of the latter. Furthermore, the inclusion is proper. Recall that it is well known that these algebras satisfy the same multilinear identities and hence in characteristic 0 they are PI equivalent.

We characterize the generalized Auslander–Reiten duality on the category of finitely presented modules over some certain Hom-finite category. Examples include the category FI of finite sets with injections, and the one VI of finite-dimensional vector spaces with linear injections over a finite field.

We consider two inclusions of $C^{*}$-algebras whose small $C^{*}$-algebras have approximate units of the large $C^{*}$-algebras and their two spaces of all bounded bimodule linear maps. We suppose that the two inclusions of $C^{*}$-algebras are strongly Morita equivalent. In this paper, we shall show that there exists an isometric isomorphism from one of the spaces of all bounded bimodule linear maps to the other space and we shall study the basic properties about the isometric isomorphism. And, using this isometric isomorphism, we define the Picard group for a bimodule linear map and discuss the Picard group for a bimodule linear map.

A group is $\frac 32$-generated if every non-trivial element is part of a generating pair. In 2019, Donoven and Harper showed that many Thompson groups are $\frac 32$-generated and posed five questions. The first of these is whether there exists a 2-generated group with every proper quotient cyclic that is not $\frac 32$-generated. This is a natural question given the significant work in proving that no finite group has this property, but we show that there is such an infinite group. The groups we consider are a family of finite index subgroups $G_1,\, G_2,\, \ldots$ of the Houghton group $\operatorname {FSym}(\mathbb {Z})\rtimes \mathbb {Z}$. We then show that $G_1$ and $G_2$ are $\frac 32$-generated and investigate the related notion of spread for these groups. We are able to show that they have finite spread at least 2. These are, therefore, the first infinite groups to be shown to have finite positive spread, and the first to be shown to have spread at least 2 (other than $\mathbb {Z}$ and the Tarski monsters, which have infinite spread). As a consequence, for each $k\in \{2,\, 3,\, \ldots \}$, we also have that $G_{2k}$ is index $k$ in $G_2$ but $G_2$ is $\frac 32$-generated whereas $G_{2k}$ is not.

Finding a common point in a finite intersection of sets, say, $C=\cap _{i=1}^{n} F(T_i)$, where each $T_i$ is a non-expansive-type mapping, is a central task in mathematics as it cuts across different areas of application, such as road design and medical image reconstruction. There are many algorithms for approximating solutions of such problems. Of particular interest in the implementation of these algorithms are cost and speed. This is due to the large computations to be performed at each step of the iterative process. One of the most efficient methods that optimizes the time of computation and cost of implementation is the asynchronous-parallel algorithm method. In this paper, we prove a weak convergence theorem for the asynchronous sequential inertial (ASI) algorithm (introduced by Heaton and Censor in [H. Heaton and Y. Censor, Asynchronous sequential inertial iterations for common fixed points problems with an application to linear systems, J. Glob. Optim. 74 (2019), 95–119.] ) for strictly pseudo-contractive mappings in Hilbert spaces. Under additional mild conditions, we also obtain a strong convergence theorem. Finally, we apply the ASI algorithm to solving convex minimization problems and Hammerstein integral equations.

In this paper, we consider the $T$- and $V$-versions, ${T_\tau }$ and ${V_\tau }$, of the irrational slope Thompson group ${F_\tau }$ considered in J. Burillo, B. Nucinkis and L. Reeves [An irrational-slope Thompson's group, Publ. Mat. 65 (2021), 809–839]. We give infinite presentations for these groups and show how they can be represented by tree-pair diagrams similar to those for $T$ and $V$. We also show that ${T_\tau }$ and ${V_\tau }$ have index-$2$ normal subgroups, unlike their original Thompson counterparts $T$ and $V$. These index-$2$ subgroups are shown to be simple.

We consider the following class of quasilinear Schrödinger equations proposed in plasma physics and nonlinear optics $-\Delta u+V(x)u+\frac {\kappa }{2}[\Delta (u^{2})]u=h(u)$ in the whole two-dimensional Euclidean space. We establish the existence and qualitative properties of standing wave solutions for a broader class of nonlinear terms $h(s)$ with the critical exponential growth. We apply the dual approach to obtain solutions in the usual Sobolev space $H^{1}(\mathbb {R}^{2})$ when the parameter $\kappa >0$ is sufficiently small. Minimax techniques, Trudinger–Moser inequality and the Nash–Moser iteration method play an essential role in establishing our results.
