Two very different definitions of a newform of half-integral weight are present and continued to be developed in the literature. The first definition originated with Serre and Stark for forms of weight 1/2 [5], and is analogous to the definition of newform for integral weight forms, which uses forms of lower level and shifts of such forms to characterize the notion of old-forms. The second definition originated with Kohnen for half-integral weight forms of squarefree level [1], who used forms of lower level and their image under the Um2 operator to define the notion of oldforms. The choice of the Um2 operator over the shift operator Bd seems a propitious one, since the U operator commutes with the action of the Shimura lift, while the shift operator B does not. More to the point, Kohnen was able to develop a newform theory on a distinguished subspace of the full space of cusp forms (now referred to as the Kohnen subspace), and obtained a multiplicity-one result (with respect to Hecke eigenvalues) for half-integral weight newforms in this subspace. Even nicer, the multiplicity-one result was established by showing that there is a one-to-one correspondence between newforms of level AN in the subspace and the newforms of integral weight of level N.

We study a rough differential equation driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H$$(1/4<H\leqslant 1/2)$. Under Hörmander’s condition on the coefficient vector fields, the solution has a smooth density for each fixed time. Using Watanabe’s distributional Malliavin calculus, we obtain a short time full asymptotic expansion of the density under quite natural assumptions. Our main result can be regarded as a “fractional version” of Ben Arous’ famous work on the off-diagonal asymptotics.

The relationship between Poisson’s summation formula and Hamburger’s theorem [2] which is a characterization of Riemann’s zetafunction by the functional equation was already mentioned in Ehrenpreis-Kawai [1]. There Poisson’s summation formula was obtained by the functional equation of Riemann’s zetafunction. This procedure is another proof of Hamburger’s theorem. Being interpreted in this way, Hamburger’s theorem admits various interesting generalizations, one of which is to derive, from the functional equations of the zetafunctions with Grössencharacters of the Gaussian field, Poisson’s summation formula corresponding to its ring of integers [1], The main purpose of the present paper is to give a generalization of Hamburger’s theorem to some zetafunctions with Grössencharacters in algebraic number fields. More precisely, we first define the zetafunctions with Grössencharacters corresponding to a lattice in a vector space, and show that Poisson’s summation formula yields the functional equations of them. Next, we derive Poisson’s summation formula corresponding to the lattice from the functional equations.

In this paper we discuss a relationship between the spectral asymmetry and the surface symmetry. More precisely, we show that for every automorphism of a Hurwitz surface with the automorphism group $\text{PSL}(2,\mathbb{F}_{q})$, the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D702}$-invariant of the corresponding mapping torus vanishes if $q$ is sufficiently large.

We are concerned with the question how the capacity of the ideal boundary of a subsurface of a covering Riemann surface over a Riemann surface varies according to the variation of its branch points. In the present paper we treat the most primitive but fundamental situation that the covering surface is a two sheeted sphere with two branch points one of which is fixed and the other is moving and the subsurface is given as the complement of two disjoint continua each in different sheets of the covering surface whose projections are two disjoint continua in the base plane given in advance not touching the projections of branch points. We will derive a variational formula for the capacity and as one of its many useful consequences expected we will show that the capacity changes smoothly as one branch point moves in the subsurface.

We give new estimates of lengths of extremal rays of birational type for toric varieties. We can see that our new estimates are the best by constructing some examples explicitly. As applications, we discuss the nefness and pseudo-effectivity of adjoint bundles of projective toric varieties. We also treat some generalizations of Fujita’s freeness and very ampleness for toric varieties.

In this paper we consider the Cauchy problem for a hyperbolic system with characteristics of variable multiplicity and construct a certain solution whose wave front set propagates precisely along the so-called “broken null bicharacteristic flow”, in other words, along the admissible trajectory if we use the terminology of [6].

Let K be a field, S a polynomial ring and E an exterior algebra over K, both in a finite set of variables. We study rigidity properties of the graded Betti numbers of graded ideals in S and E when passing to their generic initial ideals. First, we prove that if the graded Betti numbers for some i > 1 and k ≥ 0, then for all q ≥ i, where I ⊂ S is a graded ideal. Second, we show that if for some i > 1 and k ≥ 0, then for all q ≥ 1, where I ⊂ E is a graded ideal. In addition, it will be shown that the graded Betti numbers for all i ≥ 1 if and only if I(k) and I(k+1) have a linear resolution. Here I(d) is the ideal generated by all homogeneous elements in I of degree d, and R can be either the polynomial ring or the exterior algebra.

We find conditions on the local cohomology modules of multi-Rees algebras of admissible filtrations which enable us to predict joint reduction numbers. As a consequence, we are able to prove a generalization of a result of Reid, Roberts and Vitulli in the setting of analytically unramified local rings for completeness of power products of complete ideals.

In order to extend Nevanlinna’s first and second fundamental theorems to arbitrary analytic mappings between Riemann surfaces, Sario [8, 9] introduced a kernel function on an arbitrary Riemann surface generalizing the elliptic kernel on the Riemann sphere. Because of the importance of the potential theoretic method in the value distribution theory, we discussed potentials of Sario’s kernel in [4]. In that paper the validty of Frostman’s maximum principle for Sario’s potentials was left unsettled. The main object of this paper is to resolve this question (Theorem 1). As a consequence the fundamental theorem of the potential theory is obtained in its complete form for Sario’s potentials (Theorem 2).

Limit theorems are obtained for suitably normalized hitting times of single points for 1-dimensional generalized diffusion processes as the hitting points tend to boundaries under an assumption which is slightly stronger than that the existence of limits γ + 1 of the ratio of the mean and the variance of the hitting time. Laplace transforms of limit distributions are modifications of Bessel functions. Results are classified by the one parameter {γ}, each of which is the degree of corresponding Bessel function. In case the limit distribution is degenerate to one point, by changing the normalization, we obtain convergence to the normal distribution. Regarding the starting point as a time parameter, we obtain convergence in finite dimensional distributions to self-similar processes with independent increments under slightly stronger assumption.

We study geometry of manifolds endowed with a Grassmann structure which depends on symmetries of their curvature. Due to this reason a complete decomposition of the space of curvature tensors over tensor product vector spaces into simple modules under the action of the group G = GL(p, ℝ) ⊗ GL(q, ℝ) is given. The dimensions of the simple submodules, the highest weights and some projections are determined. New torsion-free connections on Grassmann manifolds apart from previously known examples are given. We use algebraic results to reveal obstructions to the existence of corresponding connections compatible with some type of normalizations and to enlighten previously known results from another point of view.

The theory of derivations and differents in the algebraic number fields or Dedekind rings has been developped by A. Weil [1], Y. Kawada [2] and M. Moriya [4]. Further Y. Kawada [3] has investigated the derivations in maximal orders of simple algebras over number fields. This note is concerned with the derivations in the simple algebras over fields which are quotient fields of Dedekind rings; the commutative rings in which the fundamental theorem of multiplicative ideal theory holds.
