We devote this paper to study semi-stable nonconstant radial solutions of $S_k(D^2u)=w(\left \vert x \right \vert )g(u)$ on the Euclidean space $\mathbb {R}^n$. We establish pointwise estimates and necessary conditions for the existence of such solutions (not necessarily bounded) for this equation. For bounded solutions we estimate their asymptotic behaviour at infinity. All the estimates are given in terms of the spatial dimension $n$, the values of $k$ and the behaviour at infinity of the growth rate function of $w$.

This note studies local integral gradient bounds for distributional solutions of a large class of partial differential inequalities with diffusion in divergence form and power-like first-order terms. The applications of these estimates are two-fold. First, we show the (sharp) global Hölder regularity of distributional semi-solutions to this class of diffusive PDEs with first-order terms having supernatural growth and right-hand side in a suitable Morrey class posed on a bounded and regular open set $\Omega$. Second, we provide a new proof of entire Liouville properties for inequalities with superlinear first-order terms without assuming any one-side bound on the solution for the corresponding homogeneous partial differential inequalities. We also discuss some extensions of the previous properties to problems arising in sub-Riemannian geometry and also to partial differential inequalities posed on noncompact complete Riemannian manifolds under appropriate area-growth conditions of the geodesic spheres, providing new results in both these directions. The methods rely on integral arguments and do not exploit maximum and comparison principles.

In this paper, we study the boundary blow-up problem related to the infinity Laplacian

where $\Delta _{\infty }^h u=|Du|^{h-3} \langle D^2uDu,Du \rangle $ is the highly degenerate and h-homogeneous operator associated with the infinity Laplacian arising from the stochastic game named Tug-of-War. When $q>h>1$ , we establish the existence of the boundary blow-up viscosity solution. Moreover, when the domain satisfies some regular condition, we establish the asymptotic estimate of the blow-up solution near the boundary. As an application of the asymptotic estimate and the comparison principle, we obtain the uniqueness result of the large solution. We also give the nonexistence of the large solution for the case $q \leq h.$

Also, we obtain a qualitative analog of the previous equivalences. Namely, we characterize the absolute continuity of $\omega _{L_0}$ with respect to $\omega _L$ in terms of some qualitative local $L^2(\omega _{L_0})$ estimates for the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution of L. This is also equivalent to the finiteness $\omega _{L_0}$ -almost everywhere of the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution of L. As applications, we show that $\omega _{L_0}$ is absolutely continuous with respect to $\omega _L$ if the disagreement of the coefficients satisfies some qualitative quadratic estimate in truncated cones for $\omega _{L_0}$ -almost everywhere vertex. Finally, when $L_0$ is either the transpose of L or its symmetric part, we obtain the corresponding absolute continuity upon assuming that the antisymmetric part of the coefficients has some controlled oscillation in truncated cones for $\omega _{L_0}$ -almost every vertex.

In this paper, we consider the problem $-\Delta u =-u^{-\beta }\chi _{\{u>0\}} + f(u)$ in $\Omega$ with $u=0$ on $\partial \Omega$, where $0<\beta <1$ and $\Omega$ is a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb {R}^{N}$, $N\geq 2$. We are able to solve this problem provided $f$ has subcritical growth and satisfy certain hypothesis. We also consider this problem with $f(s)=\lambda s+s^{\frac {N+2}{N-2}}$ and $N\geq 3$. In this case, we are able to obtain a solution for large values of $\lambda$. We replace the singular function $u^{-\beta }$ by a function $g_\epsilon (u)$ which pointwisely converges to $u^{-\beta }$ as $\epsilon \rightarrow 0$. The corresponding energy functional to the perturbed equation $-\Delta u + g_\epsilon (u) = f(u)$ has a critical point $u_\epsilon$ in $H_0^{1}(\Omega )$, which converges to a non-trivial non-negative solution of the original problem as $\epsilon \rightarrow 0$.

We establish some existence results for a class of critical $N$-Laplacian problems in a bounded domain in $\mathbb {R}^{N}$. In the absence of a suitable direct sum decomposition of the underlying Sobolev space to which the classical linking theorem can be applied, we use an abstract linking theorem based on the $\mathbb {Z}_2$-cohomological index to obtain a non-trivial critical point.

We prove the existence of nontrivial ground state solutions of the critical quasilinear Hénon equation $\displaystyle -\Delta _p u=|x|^{\alpha _1}|u|^{p^{*}(\alpha _1)-2}u-|x|^{\alpha _2}|u|^{p^{*}(\alpha _2)-2}u\ \ {\rm in}\ \mathbb {R}^{N}.$ It is a new problem in the sense that the signs of the coefficients of critical terms are opposite.

We consider steady states with mass constraint of the fourth-order thin-film equation with van der Waals force in a bounded domain which leads to a singular elliptic equation for the thickness with an unknown pressure term. By studying second-order nonlinear ordinary differential equation,

Steady-state diffusion in long axisymmetric structures is considered. The goal is to assess one-dimensional approximations by comparing them with axisymmetric eigenfunction expansions. Two problems are considered in detail: a finite tube with one end that is partly absorbing and partly reflecting; and two finite coaxial tubes with different cross-sectional radii joined together abruptly. Both problems may be modelled using effective boundary conditions, containing a parameter known as the trapping rate. We show that trapping rates depend on the lengths of the finite tubes (and that they decay slowly as these lengths increase) and we show how trapping rates are related to blockage coefficients, which are well known in the context of potential flow along tubes of infinite length.

We prove the existence of a solution for a class of activator–inhibitor system of type $- \Delta u +u = f(u) -v$ , $-\Delta v+ v=u$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ . The function f is a general nonlinearity which can grow polynomially in dimension $N\geq 3$ or exponentiallly if $N=2$ . We are able to treat f when it has critical growth corresponding to the Sobolev space we work with. We transform the system into an equation with a nonlocal term. We find a critical point of the corresponding energy functional defined in the space of functions with norm endowed by a scalar product that takes into account such nonlocal term. For that matter, and due to the lack of compactness, we deal with weak convergent minimizing sequences and sequences of Lagrange multipliers of an action minima problem.

The Helmholtz equation $-\nabla\cdot (a\nabla u) - \omega^2 u = f$ is considered in an unbounded wave guide $\Omega := \mathbb{R} \times S \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ , $S\subset \mathbb{R}^{d-1}$ a bounded domain. The coefficient a is strictly elliptic and either periodic in the unbounded direction $x_1 \in \mathbb{R}$ or periodic outside a compact subset; in the latter case, two different periodic media can be used in the two unbounded directions. For non-singular frequencies $\omega$ , we show the existence of a solution u. While previous proofs of such results were based on analyticity arguments within operator theory, here, only energy methods are used.

We study nonlinear measure data elliptic problems involving the operator of generalized Orlicz growth. Our framework embraces reflexive Orlicz spaces, as well as natural variants of variable exponent and double-phase spaces. Approximable and renormalized solutions are proven to exist and coincide for arbitrary measure datum and to be unique when for a class of data being diffuse with respect to a relevant nonstandard capacity. A capacitary characterization of diffuse measures is provided.

We consider the following class of quasilinear Schrödinger equations proposed in plasma physics and nonlinear optics $-\Delta u+V(x)u+\frac {\kappa }{2}[\Delta (u^{2})]u=h(u)$ in the whole two-dimensional Euclidean space. We establish the existence and qualitative properties of standing wave solutions for a broader class of nonlinear terms $h(s)$ with the critical exponential growth. We apply the dual approach to obtain solutions in the usual Sobolev space $H^{1}(\mathbb {R}^{2})$ when the parameter $\kappa >0$ is sufficiently small. Minimax techniques, Trudinger–Moser inequality and the Nash–Moser iteration method play an essential role in establishing our results.
