In this paper, we study existence of rotating periodic solutions for p-Laplacian differential systems. We first build a new continuation theorem by topological degree, and then obtain the existence of rotating periodic solutions for two kinds of p-Laplacian differential systems via this continuation theorem, extend some existing relevant results.

We investigate the existence of families of symmetric periodic solutions of second kind as continuation of the elliptical orbits of the two-dimensional Kepler problem for certain symmetric differentiable perturbations using Delaunay coordinates. More precisely, we characterize the sufficient conditions for its existence and its type of stability is studied. The estimate on the characteristic multipliers of the symmetric periodic solutions is the new contribution to the field of symmetric periodic solutions. In addition, we present some results about the relationship between our symmetric periodic solutions and those obtained by the averaging method for Hamiltonian systems. As applications of our main results, we get new families of periodic solutions for: the perturbed hydrogen atom with stark and quadratic Zeeman effect, for the anisotropic Seeligers two-body problem and to the planar generalized Størmer problem.

In this paper, we mainly introduce some new notions of generalized Bloch type periodic functions namely pseudo Bloch type periodic functions and weighted pseudo Bloch type periodic functions. A Bloch type periodic function may not be Bloch type periodic under certain small perturbations while it can be quasi Bloch type periodic in sense of generalized Bloch type periodic functions. We firstly show the completeness of spaces of generalized Bloch type periodic functions and establish some further properties such as composition and convolution theorems of such functions. We then apply these results to investigate existence results for generalized Bloch type periodic mild solutions to some semi-linear differential equations in Banach spaces. The obtained results show that for each generalized Bloch type periodic input forcing disturbance, the output mild solutions to reference evolution equations remain generalized Bloch type periodic.

This paper aims to investigate the existence of periodic solutions for $p$-Laplacian differential equations with jumping nonlinearity under the frame of half-eigenvalue. Based on the continuity theorem, some new results are obtained, which enrich and generalize the previous results.

The existence and multiplicity of T-periodic solutions to a class of differential equations with attractive singularities at the origin are investigated in the paper. The approach is based on a new method of construction of strict upper and lower functions. The multiplicity results of Ambrosetti–Prodi type are established using a priori estimates and certain properties of topological degree.

Taking into account the effects of patch structure and nonlinear density-dependent mortality terms, we explore a class of almost periodic Nicholson’s blowflies model in this paper. Employing the Lyapunov function method and differential inequality technique, some novel assertions are developed to guarantee the existence and exponential stability of positive almost periodic solutions for the addressed model, which generalize and refine the corresponding results in some recently published literatures. Particularly, an example and its numerical simulations are arranged to support the proposed approach.

A Lagrangian system is considered. The configuration space is a non-compact manifold that depends on time. A set of periodic solutions has been found.

We study a second-order ordinary differential equation coming from the Kepler problem on ${{\mathbb{S}}^{2}}$. The forcing term under consideration is a piecewise constant with singular nonlinearity that changes sign. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions to the existence and multiplicity of $T$-periodic solutions.

We show the existence of connecting orbits for a class of singular second-order Hamiltonian systems

where, as opposed to most of the existing literature, we assume that the potential V has not one but any finite number of maxima of equal value. We use variational methods under the assumption that V (t, u) satisfies the so-called ‘strong-force’ condition at the singularity.

We study the periodic and Neumann boundary-value problems associated with the second-order nonlinear differential equation

and λ > 0 is sufficiently large. Our approach is based on Mawhin's coincidence degree theory and index computations.

This article studies propagating traveling waves in a class of reaction-diffusion systems which model isothermal autocatalytic chemical reactions as well as microbial growth and competition in a flow reactor. In the context of isothermal autocatalytic systems, two different cases will be studied. The first is autocatalytic chemical reaction of order m without decay. The second is chemical reaction of order m with a decay of order n, where m and n are positive integers and m>n≥1. A typical system in autocatalysis is A+2B→3B and B→C involving two chemical species, a reactant A and an auto-catalyst B and C an inert chemical species.

The numerical computation gives more accurate estimates on minimum speed of traveling waves for autocatalytic reaction without decay, providing useful insight in the study of stability of traveling waves.

For autocatalytic reaction of order m = 2 with linear decay n = 1, which has a particular important role in chemical waves, it is shown numerically that there exist multiple traveling waves with 1, 2 and 3 peaks with certain choices of parameters.

We consider a nonlinear periodic problem driven by a nonlinear nonhomogeneous differential operator and a Carathéodory reaction term $f\left( t,\,x \right)$ that exhibits a $\left( p\,-\,1 \right)$-superlinear growth in $x\,\in \,\mathbb{R}$ near $\pm \infty $ and near zero. A special case of the differential operator is the scalar $p$-Laplacian. Using a combination of variational methods based on the critical point theory with Morse theory (critical groups), we show that the problem has three nontrivial solutions, two of which have constant sign (one positive, the other negative).

The exact analytical expression of the period of a conservative nonlinear oscillator with a non-polynomial potential, is obtained. Such an oscillatory system corresponds to the transverse vibration of a particle attached to the center of a stretched elastic wire. The result is given in terms of elliptic functions and validates the approximate formulae derived from various approximation procedures as the harmonic balance method and the rational harmonic balance method usually implemented for solving such a nonlinear problem.

In this paper we consider a non-linear periodic problem driven by the scalar p-Laplacian and with a non-smooth potential. We assume that the multi-valued right-hand-side non-linearity exhibits an asymmetric behaviour at ±∞ and crosses a finite number of eigenvalues as we move from −∞ to +∞. Using a variational approach based on the non-smooth critical-point theory, we show that the problem has at least two non-trivial solutions, one of which has constant sign. For the semi-linear (p = 2), smooth problem, using Morse theory, we show that the problem has at least three non-trivial solutions, again one with constant sign.

A class of first-order impulsive functional differential equations with forcing terms is considered. It is shown that, under certain assumptions, there exist positive T-periodic solutions, and under some other assumptions, there exists no positive T-periodic solution. Applications and examples are given to illustrate the main results.

In this work, we shall be concerned with the following forced Rayleigh type equation: Under certain assumptions, some criteria for guaranteeing the existence, uniqueness and asymptotic stability (in the Lyapunov sense) of periodic solutions of this equation are presented by applying the Manásevich–Mawhin continuation theorem, Floquet theory, Lyapunov stability theory and some analysis techniques. Moreover, an example is provided to demonstrate the applications of our results.

By using Lebesgue’s dominated convergence theorem and constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional, we study the following almost-periodic Lotka–Volterra model with $M$ predators and $N$ prey of the integro-differential equations

Some sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of a unique almost-periodic solution of this model. Several examples show that the obtained criteria are new, general and easily verifiable.

We consider the standard action of the dihedral group $\bf{D}_n$ of order $2n$ on $\bf{C}$. This representation is absolutely irreducible and so the corresponding Hopf bifurcation occurs on $\bf{C} \oplus \bf{C}$. Golubitsky and Stewart (Hopf bifurcation with dihedral group symmetry: Coupled nonlinear oscillators. In: Multiparameter Bifurcation Series, M. Golubitsky and J. Guckenheimer, eds., Contemporary Mathematics 46, Am. Math. Soc., Providence, R.I. 1986, 131–173) and van Gils and Valkering (Hopf bifurcation and symmetry: standing and travelling waves in a circular chain. Japan J. Appl. Math.3, 207–222, 1986) prove the generic existence of three branches of periodic solutions, up to conjugacy, in systems of ordinary differential equations with $\bf{D}_n$-symmetry, depending on one real parameter, that present Hopf bifurcation. These solutions are found by using the Equivariant Hopf Theorem. We prove that generically, when $n\neq 4$ and assuming Birkhoff normal form, these are the only branches of periodic solutions that bifurcate from the trivial solution.

The existence of periodic solutions for the nonlinear asymmetric oscillator $ x''{+}\alpha x^+{-}\beta x^- {=} h(t),\qquad (' = d/dt) $ is discussed, where $\alpha, \beta$ are positive constants satisfying $ {1}/{\sqrt{\alpha}} + {1}/{\sqrt{\beta}} = {2}/{n} $ for some positive integer $n\in {\bf \mathbb{N}}$ and $h(t)\in L^\infty(0,2\pi)$ is $2\pi$-periodic with $x^{\pm}=\max\{\pm x, 0\}$.

Consider a scalar differential equation $\dot{x}\,{=}\,f(t,x), (t,x)\,{\in}\,I\,{\times}\,\R$, where $I$ is an open interval containing $[0,\,T]$. Assume that $f(t,x)$ is continuous with a continuous derivative $f^{\prime}_{x}(t,x)$, and weakly concave (or weakly convex) in $x$ for all $t \in I$, though strictly concave (or strictly convex) for some $t\,{\in}\,[0,\,T$]. It is well known that in this case there can be either no, one or two closed solutions; that is, solutions $\varphi(t)$ for which $\varphi(0)=\varphi$$(T)$ If there are two closed solutions, then the greater has a negative characteristic exponent and the smaller has a positive one. It is easily seen that this is equivalent to a statement on localization of closed solutions. It is shown how this statement can be generalized to systems of differential equations $\dot{\underline x} = \underline{f}(t,\underline{x}), (t,\underline{x})\in I \times \R^{n}$. The requirements are that the coordinate functions ${f}_{j}(t,\underline{x})$ be continuous with continuous derivatives with respect to $x_{1},x_{2},\ldots,x_{n}$, that the $f_j$ are weakly concave (or weakly convex) in $\underline{\it x}$, and that a certain condition pertaining to strict concavity (or strict convexity) is fulfilled.
