We characterize those non-negative, measurable functions ψ on [0, 1] and positive, continuous functions ω1 and ω2 on ℝ+ for which the generalized Hardy–Cesàro operator

We study Cayley graphs of abelian groups from the perspective of quantum symmetries. We develop a general strategy for determining the quantum automorphism groups of such graphs. Applying this procedure, we find the quantum symmetries of the halved cube graph, the folded cube graph, and the Hamming graphs.

Let Xn, n ≥ 1 be an asymptotically almost negatively associated (AANA) sequence of random variables. Some complete convergence and Marcinkiewicz–Zygmund type strong laws of large numbers for an AANA sequence of random variables are obtained. The results obtained generalize the results of Kim, Ko and Lee (Kim, T. S., Ko, M. H. and Lee, I. H. 2004. On the strong laws for asymptotically almost negatively associated random variables. Rocky Mountain J. of Math. 34, 979–989.).

The notions of central endolength and semigeneric tameness are introduced, and their behaviour under base field extension for finite-dimensional algebras over perfect fields are analysed. For k a perfect field, K an algebraic closure and Λ a finite-dimensional k-algebra, here there is a proof that Λ is semigenerically tame if and only if Λ ⊗kK is tame.

In this paper we show existence of positive solutions for a class of quasi-linear problems with Neumann boundary conditions defined in a half-space and involving the critical exponent.

We prove a natural factorization of supersolvable groups and then we give another characterization of them in connection with the Fitting subgroup. Applying these theorems we describe the structure of some subclasses of supersolvable groups.

Quaternionic vector mKDV equations are derived from the Cartan structure equation in the symmetric space = Sp(n+1)/Sp(1) × Sp(n). The derivation of the soliton hierarchy utilizes a moving parallel frame and a Cartan connection 1-form ω related to the Cartan geometry on modelled on . The integrability structure is shown to be geometrically encoded by a Poisson–Nijenhuis structure and a symplectic operator.

Let A = ρ2∑i,jAijθi ⊗ θj and B = ρ2∑i,jBij θi ⊗ θj be the Blaschke tensor and the Möbius second fundamental form of the immersion x. Let D = A + λB be the para-Blaschke tensor of x, where λ is a constant. If x: Mn ↦ Sn + 1(1) is an n-dimensional para-Blaschke isoparametric hypersurface in a unit sphere Sn + 1(1) and x has three distinct Blaschke eigenvalues one of which is simple or has three distinct Möbius principal curvatures one of which is simple, we obtain the full classification theorems of the hypersurface.

We give a bound on the H-constants of configurations of smooth curves having transversal intersection points only on an algebraic surface of non-negative Kodaira dimension. We also study in detail configurations of lines on smooth complete intersections $X \subset \mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}}^{n + 2}$ of multi-degree d = (d1, …, dn), and we provide a sharp and uniform bound on their H-constants, which only depends on d.

In his paper [1], M. Brodmann showed that if M is a1 finitely generated module over the commutative Noetherian ring R (with identity) and a is an ideal of R then the sequence of sets {Ass(M/anM)}n∈ℕ and {Ass(an−1M/anM)}n∈ℕ (where ℕ denotes the set of positive integers) are eventually constant. Since then, the theory of asymptotic prime divisors has been studied extensively: in [5], Chapters 1 and 2], for example, various results concerning the eventual stable values of Ass(R/an;) and Ass(an−1/an), denoted by A*(a) and B*(a) respectively, are discussed. It is worth mentioning that the above mentioned results of Brodmann still hold if one assumes only that A is a commutative ring (with identity) and M is a Noetherian A-module, and AssA(M), in this situation, is regarded as the set of prime ideals belonging to the zero submodule of M for primary decomposition.

All rings considered will be associative. For a class M of rings let UM be the class of all rings having no non-zero homomorphic image in M. A hereditary class M of prime rings is called a “special class” [see 1, p. 191] if it has the property that when I ∈ M with I an ideal of a ring R, then R/I* ∈ Mwhere I* is the annihilator of I in R, and the corresponding radical class UM is then a “special radical”. There are described equations for a pair comprising a Riemannian metric and a Killing field on a surface that contain as special cases the Einstein Weyl equations (in the sense of D. Calderbank) and a real version of a special case of the Abelian vortex equations, and it is shown that the property that a metric solve these equations is preserved by the Ricci flow. The equations are solved explicitly, and among the metrics obtained are all steady gradient Ricci solitons (e.g. the cigar soliton) and the sausage metric; there are found other examples of eternal, ancient, and immortal Ricci flows, as well as some Ricci flows with conical singularities.

The main object of this note is to show that a proof given by A. J. Macintyre [2] of a result on the overconvergence of partial sums of power series works more easily in the context of Dirichlet series. Applying this observation to the particular Dirichlet series Σane−ns, we can remove certain restrictions which Macintyre finds necessary in the direct treatment of power series.

For a commutative ring $R$ with an ideal $I$, generated by a finite regular sequence, we construct differential graded algebras which provide $R$-free resolutions of $I^s$ and of $R/I^s$ for $s \geq 1$ and which generalise the Koszul resolution. We derive these from a certain multiplicative double complex ${\mathbf K}$. By means of a Cartan–Eilenberg spectral sequence we express ${\rm Tor}_*^R(R/I, R/I^s)$ and ${\rm Tor}_*^R(R/I, I^s)$ in terms of exact sequences and find that they are free as $R/I$-modules. Except for $R/I$, their product structure turns out to be trivial; instead, we consider an exterior product ${\rm Tor}_*^R(R/I, I^s)\,{\otimes_R}\,{\rm Tor}_*^R(R/I, I^t)\,{\to}\,{\rm Tor}_*^R(R/I, I^{s+t})$. This paper is based on ideas by Andrew Baker; it is written in view of applications to algebraic topology.
