Let G be the Lie group ${\mathbb{R}}^2\rtimes {\mathbb{R}}^+$ endowed with the Riemannian symmetric space structure. Take a distinguished basis $X_0,\, X_1,\,X_2$ of left-invariant vector fields of the Lie algebra of G, and consider the Laplacian $\Delta=-\sum_{i=0}^2X_i^2$ and the first-order Riesz transforms $\mathcal R_i=X_i\Delta^{-1/2}$, $i=0,1,2$. We first show that the atomic Hardy space H1 in G introduced by the authors in a previous paper does not admit a characterization in terms of the Riesz transforms $\mathcal R_i$. It is also proved that two of these Riesz transforms are bounded from H1 to H1.

We provide a uniform bound on the partial sums of multiplicative functions under very general hypotheses. As an application, we give a nearly optimal estimate for the count of $n \le x$ for which the Alladi–Erdős function $A(n) = \sum_{p^k \parallel n} k p$ takes values in a given residue class modulo q, where q varies uniformly up to a fixed power of $\log x$. We establish a similar result for the equidistribution of the Euler totient function $\phi(n)$ among the coprime residues to the ‘correct’ moduli q that vary uniformly in a similar range and also quantify the failure of equidistribution of the values of $\phi(n)$ among the coprime residue classes to the ‘incorrect’ moduli.

We give a criterion for separability of subgroups of certain outer automorphism groups. This answers questions of Hagen and Sisto, by strengthening and generalizing a result of theirs on mapping class groups.

In this paper, we show that for a large natural class of vertex operator algebras (VOAs) and their modules, the Zhu’s algebras and bimodules (and their g-twisted analogs) are Noetherian. These carry important information about the representation theory of the VOA, and its fusion rules, and the Noetherian property gives the potential for (non-commutative) algebro-geometric methods to be employed in their study.

For $S\subseteq \mathbb{N}$ and $n\in \mathbb{N}$, let $R_{S}(n)$ denote the number of solutions of the equation $n=s+s'$ with $s, s'\in S$ and $s \lt s'$. Let $r_{1}, r_{2}, m$ be integers with $0 \lt r_{1} \lt r_{2} \lt m$ and $2\mid r_{1}$. In this paper, we prove that there exist two sets C and D with $C\cup D=\mathbb{N}$ and $C\cap D=(r_{1}+m\mathbb{N})\cup (r_{2}+m\mathbb{N})$ such that $R_{C}(n)=R_{D}(n)$ for all $n\in\mathbb{N}$ if and only if there exists a positive integer l such that $r_{1}=2^{2l+1}-2, r_{2}=2^{2l+1}-1, m=2^{2l+2}-2$.

Let Γ be a finite graph and let $A(\Gamma)$ be the corresponding right-angled Artin group. From an arbitrary basis $\mathcal B$ of $H^1(A(\Gamma),\mathbb F)$ over an arbitrary field, we construct a natural graph $\Gamma_{\mathcal B}$ from the cup product, called the cohomology basis graph. We show that $\Gamma_{\mathcal B}$ always contains Γ as a subgraph. This provides an effective way to reconstruct the defining graph Γ from the cohomology of $A(\Gamma)$, to characterize the planarity of the defining graph from the algebra of $A(\Gamma)$ and to recover many other natural graph-theoretic invariants. We also investigate the behaviour of the cohomology basis graph under passage to elementary subminors and show that it is not well-behaved under edge contraction.

Recently, it is proven that positive harmonic functions defined in the unit disc or the upper half-plane in $\mathbb{C}$ are contractions in hyperbolic metrics [14]. Furthermore, the same result does not hold in higher dimensions as shown by given counterexamples [16]. In this paper, we shall show that positive (or bounded) harmonic functions defined in the unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ are Lipschitz in hyperbolic metrics. The involved method in main results allows to establish essential improvements of Schwarz type inequalities for monogenic functions in Clifford analysis [24, 25] and octonionic analysis [21] in a unified approach.

We give a complete combinatorial classification of the parabolic Verma modules in the principal block of the parabolic category $\mathcal{O}$ associated with a minimal or a maximal parabolic subalgebra of the special linear Lie algebra for which the answer to Kostant’s problem is positive.

The notion of a strongly dense subgroup was introduced by Breuillard, Green, Guralnick and Tao: a subgroup Γ of a semi-simple $\mathbb{Q}$ algebraic group $\mathcal{G}$ is called strongly dense if every pair of non-commuting elements generate a Zariski dense subgroup. Amongst other things, Breuillard et al. prove that there exist strongly dense free subgroups in $\mathcal{G}({\mathbb{R}})$ and ask whether or not a Zariski dense subgroup of $\mathcal{G}(\mathbb{R})$ always contains a strongly dense free subgroup. In this paper, we answer this for many surface subgroups of $\textrm{SL}(3,\mathbb{R})$.

Let (K, v) be a valued field and $\phi\in K[x]$ be any key polynomial for a residue-transcendental extension w of v to K(x). In this article, using the ϕ-Newton polygon of a polynomial $f\in K[x]$ (with respect to w), we give a lower bound for the degree of an irreducible factor of f. This generalizes the result given in Jakhar and Srinivas (On the irreducible factors of a polynomial II, J. Algebra 556 (2020), 649–655).

In this article, $\mathcal{F}_{S}(G)$ denotes the fusion category of G on a Sylow p-subgroup S of G where p denotes a prime. A subgroup K of G has normal complement in G if there is a normal subgroup T of G satisfying that G = KT and $T \cap K = 1$. We investigate the supersolvability of $\mathcal{F}_{S}(G)$ under the assumption that some subgroups of S are normal in G or have normal complement in G.

We classify nef vector bundles on a smooth hyperquadric of dimension three with first Chern class two over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. In particular, we see that they are globally generated.

Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with $d\geq 2$ be a bounded domain of class ${\mathcal C}^{1,\beta }$ for some $\beta \in (0,1)$. For $p\in (1, \infty )$ and $s\in (0,1)$, let $\Lambda ^s_{p}(\Omega )$ be the first eigenvalue of the mixed local–nonlocal operator $-\Delta _p+(-\Delta _p)^s$ in Ω with the homogeneous nonlocal Dirichlet boundary condition. We establish a strict Faber–Krahn-type inequality for $\Lambda _{p}^s(\cdot )$ under polarization. As an application of this strict inequality, we obtain the strict monotonicity of $\Lambda _{p}^s(\cdot )$ over the annular domains and characterize the rigidity property of the balls in the classical Faber–Krahn inequality for $-\Delta _p+(-\Delta _p)^s$.

For an arbitrary ring A, we study the abelianization of the elementary group $\mathit{{\rm E}}_2(A)$. In particular, we show that for a commutative ring A there exists an exact sequence

where ${\rm C}(2,A)$ is the central subgroup of the Steinberg group $\mathit{{\rm St}}(2,A)$ generated by the Steinberg symbols and M is the additive subgroup of A generated by $x(a^2-1)$ and $3(b+1)(c+1)$, with $x\in A, a,b,c \in {A^\times}$.

The focus of this paper is to introduce an alternating inertial Tseng-type method for approximating singularity point of an inclusion problem which is defined by means of sum of a single-valued vector and a multi-valued vector field in the setting of a Hadamard manifold. Using our iterative method, we prove that the sequence generated by our method converges to a singularity point under some mild conditions. We also establish a linear convergence result when the operator is strongly monotone. As far as we are concerned, there are no results on alternating inertial steps for solving inclusion problems in the settings of Hadamard manifolds. Lastly, we present a numerical example to show the performance of our method. The result present in this article extends and generalizes many related results in the literature.

Let $H\le F$ be two finitely generated free groups. Given $g\in F$, we study the ideal $\mathfrak I_g$ of equations for g with coefficients in H, i.e. the elements $w(x)\in H*\langle x\rangle$ such that $w(g)=1$ in F. The ideal $\mathfrak I_g$ is a normal subgroup of $H*\langle x\rangle$, and it’s possible to algorithmically compute a finite normal generating set for $\mathfrak I_g$; we give a description of one such algorithm, based on Stallings folding operations. We provide an algorithm to find an equation in w(x)\in$\mathfrak I_g$ with minimum degree, i.e.  such that its cyclic reduction contains the minimum possible number of occurrences of x and x−1; this answers a question of A. Rosenmann and E. Ventura. More generally, we show how to algorithmically compute the set Dg of all integers d such that $\mathfrak I_g$ contains equations of degree d; we show that Dg coincides, up to a finite set, with either $\mathbb N$ or $2\mathbb N$. Finally, we provide examples to illustrate the techniques introduced in this paper. We discuss the case where ${\text{rank}}(H)=1$. We prove that both kinds of sets Dg can actually occur. We show that the equations of minimum possible degree aren’t in general enough to generate the whole ideal $\mathfrak I_g$ as a normal subgroup.

Let G be a finite group and r be a prime divisor of the order of G. An irreducible character of G is said to be quasi r-Steinberg if it is non-zero on every r-regular element of G. A quasi r-Steinberg character of degree $\displaystyle |Syl_r(G)|$ is said to be weak r-Steinberg if it vanishes on the r-singular elements of $G.$ In this article, we classify the quasi r-Steinberg cuspidal characters of the general linear group $GL(n,q).$ Then we characterize the quasi r-Steinberg characters of $GL(2,q)$ and $GL(3,q).$ Finally, we obtain a classification of the weak r-Steinberg characters of $GL(n,q).$

When the equilibrium probabilities µA is the set of invariant Markov probabilities on $\{0,1\}^{\mathbb{N}}\subset \mathcal{N}$, introducing an orthonormal basis $\hat{a}_y$, indexed by finite words y, we show explicit expressions for $K(\hat{a}_x,\hat{a}_z)$, which is a finite sum. These values can be positive or negative depending on A and the words x and z. Words $x,z$ with large length can eventually produce large negative curvature $K(\hat{a}_x,\hat{a}_z)$. If $x, z$ do not begin with the same letter, then $K(\hat{a}_x,\hat{a}_z)=0$.

We provide an algorithm for constructing a Kirby diagram of a 4-dimensional open book given a Heegaard diagram of the page. As an application, we show that any open book with trivial monodromy is diffeomorphic to an open book constructed with a punctured handlebody as page and a composition of torus twists and sphere twists as monodromy.
