We show that if R is a ring such that each minimal left ideal is essential in a (direct) summand of RR, then the dual of each simple right R-module is simple if and only if R is semiperfect with Soc(RR)=Soc(RR) and Soc(Re) is simple and essential for every local idempotent e of R. We also show that R is left CS and right Kasch if and only if R is a semiperfect left continuous ring with Soc(RR)⊆eRR. As a particular case of both results we obtain that R is a ring such that every (essential) closure of a minimal left ideal is summand (R is then said to be left strongly min-CS) and the dual of each simple right R-module is simple if and only if R is a semiperfect left continuous ring with Soc(RR)=Soc(RR)⊆eRR. Moreover, in this case R is also left Kasch, Soc(eR)≠0 for every local idempotent e of R, and R admits a (Nakayama) permutation of a basic set of primitive idempotents. As a consequence of this result we characterise left PF rings in terms of simple modules over the 2×2 matrix ring by showing that R is left PF if and only if M2(R) is a left strongly min-CS ring such that the dual of every simple right module is simple.

In this paper, we introduce a notion of unistructural cluster algebras, for which the set of cluster variables uniquely determines the clusters, as well as the notion of weak unistructural cluster algebras, for which the set of cluster variables determines the clusters, provided that the type of the cluster algebra is fixed. We prove that, for cluster algebras of the Dynkin type, the two notions of unistructural and weakly unistructural coincide, and that cluster algebras of rank 2 are always unistructural. We then prove that a cluster algebra $\mathcal A$ is weakly unistructural if and only if any automorphism of the ambient field, which restricts to a permutation of cluster variables of $\mathcal A$, is a cluster automorphism. We also investigate the Fomin-Zelevinsky conjecture that two cluster variables are compatible if and only if one does not appear in the denominator of the Laurent expansions of the other.

In our previous work, we established the theory of multi-variable Witten zeta-functions, which are called the zeta-functions of root systems. We have already considered the cases of types A2, A3, B2, B3 and C3. In this paper, we consider the case of G2-type. We define certain analogues of Bernoulli polynomials of G2-type and study the generating functions of them to determine the coefficients of Witten's volume formulas of G2-type. Next, we consider the meromorphic continuation of the zeta-function of G2-type and determine its possible singularities. Finally, by using our previous method, we give explicit functional relations for them which include Witten's volume formulas.

In the terminology of Clifford and Preston [2], a band B is a semigroup in which every element is idempotent. On such a semigroup there is a natural (partial) order relation defined by the rule

If the order relation ≧ is compatible with the multiplication in B, in the sense that e ≧ f and g ≧ h together imply that eg ≧ fh, we shall say that B is a naturally ordered band. The object of this note is to describe the structure of naturally ordered bands.

Any moduli space of representations of a quiver (possibly with oriented cycles) has an embedding as a dense open subvariety into a moduli space of representations of a bipartite quiver having the same type of singularities. A connected quiver is Dynkin or extended Dynkin if and only if all moduli spaces of its representations are smooth.

This paper is a continuation for the study of the zero-divisor graph for the ring of Gaussian integers modulo n, Γ(ℤn[i]) in [8] (Emad Abu Osba, Salah Al-Addasi and Nafez Abu Jaradeh. Zero divisor graph for the ring of Gaussin integers modulo n. Comm. Algebra 36(10) (2008), 3865–3877). It is investigated, when is Γ(ℤn[i]) locally H, Hamiltonian or bipartite graph? A full characterisation for the chromatic number and the radius is also given.

An algebra (L; ν, ^, *, +, 0, 1) of type (2, 2, 1, 1, 0, 0) is a distributive double p-algebra provided (L; ν, ^, 0, 1) is a distributive (0, l)-lattice, and *, + are unary operations of pseudocomplementation, or dual pseudocomplementation, respectively: the operation * satisfies x<a* if and only if x^a = 0, while x>a+ holds if and only if xνa = 1.

Let G be a finite group (with neutral element e) which operates trivially on the multiplicative group R* of a commutative ring R (with identity 1). Let H2(G, R*) denote the second cohomology group of G with respect to the trivial G-module R*. With every represented by the central factor system we associate the so called twisted group algebra (R, G, f) (see [3, V, 23.7] for the definition). (R, G, f) is determined by f up to R-algebra isomorphism. In this note we shall describe its representations in the case R is an algebraically closed field C of characteristic zero and G is an extra-special p-group P.

Let B be a submodule of an R-module M. The intersection of all prime (resp. weakly prime) submodules of M containing B is denoted by rad(B) (resp. wrad(B)). A generalisation of 〈E(B)〉 denoted by UE(B) of M will be introduced. The inclusions 〈E(B)〉 ⊆ UE(B) ⊆ wrad(B) ⊆ rad(B) are motivations for studying the equalities UE(B) = wrad(B) and UE(B) = rad(B) in this paper. It is proved that if R is an arithmetical ring, then UE(B) = wrad(B). In Theorem 2.5, a generalisation of the main result of [11] is given.

If D Ε S is such that μ(D)≠0, then one traditionally associates with D a new probability measure μD, called the conditional probability measure determined by D, and defined by μD(E)= μ(D∩E)/μ(D), for all EΕΣ.

We study the ring theory of the multi-parameter deformations of the quantum Schubert cell algebras obtained from 2-cocycle twists. This is a large family, which extends the Artin–Schelter–Tate algebras of twisted quantum matrices. We classify set theoretically the spectra of all such multi-parameter quantum Schubert cell algebras, construct each of their prime ideals by contracting from explicit normal localizations and prove formulas for the dimensions of their Goodearl–Letzter strata for base fields of arbitrary characteristic and all deformation parameters that are not roots of unity. Furthermore, we prove that the spectra of these algebras are normally separated and that all such algebras are catenary.

Let E be a Banach space, and let N(E) be the Banach algebra of all nuclear operators on E. In this work, we shall study the homological properties of this algebra. Some of these properties turn out to be equivalent to the (Grothendieck) approximation property for E. These include:

(i) biprojectivity of N(E);

(ii) biflatness of N(E);

(iii) homological finite-dimensionality of N(E);

(iv) vanishing of the three-dimensional cohomology group, H3(N(E), N(E)).

In this paper, which is a continuation of [4], the necessary theoretical background is given to enable the calculation of the irreducible Brauer projective characters of a given finite group to be carried out. As an example, this calculation is done for the alternating group A (7) in §3. In a future paper the calculations for the Mathieu groups will be presented.

In this paper, we first deduce a formula of S-curvature of homogeneous Finsler spaces in terms of Killing vector fields. Then we prove that a homogeneous Finsler space has isotropic S-curvature if and only if it has vanishing S-curvature. In the special case that the homogeneous Finsler space is a Randers space, we give an explicit formula which coincides with the previous formula obtained by the second author using other methods.

We consider quasi-Einstein metrics in the framework of contact metric manifolds and prove some rigidity results. First, we show that any quasi-Einstein Sasakian metric is Einstein. Next, we prove that any complete K-contact manifold with quasi-Einstein metric is compact Einstein and Sasakian. To this end, we extend these results for (κ, μ)-spaces.
