J.-C. Yoccoz proposed a natural extension of Selberg’s eigenvalue conjecture to moduli spaces of abelian differentials. We prove an approximation to this conjecture. This gives a qualitative generalization of Selberg’s $\frac{3}{16}$ theorem to moduli spaces of abelian differentials on surfaces of genus ${\geqslant}2$.

We show that compatible systems of $\ell$-adic sheaves on a scheme of finite type over the ring of integers of a local field are compatible along the boundary up to stratification. This extends a theorem of Deligne on curves over a finite field. As an application, we deduce the equicharacteristic case of classical conjectures on $\ell$-independence for proper smooth varieties over complete discrete valuation fields. Moreover, we show that compatible systems have compatible ramification. We also prove an analogue for integrality along the boundary.

We study lattices in a product $G=G_{1}\times \cdots \times G_{n}$ of non-discrete, compactly generated, totally disconnected locally compact (tdlc) groups. We assume that each factor is quasi just-non-compact, meaning that $G_{i}$ is non-compact and every closed normal subgroup of $G_{i}$ is discrete or cocompact (e.g. $G_{i}$ is topologically simple). We show that the set of discrete subgroups of $G$ containing a fixed cocompact lattice $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}$ with dense projections is finite. The same result holds if $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}$ is non-uniform, provided $G$ has Kazhdan’s property (T). We show that for any compact subset $K\subset G$, the collection of discrete subgroups $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}\leqslant G$ with $G=\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}K$ and dense projections is uniformly discrete and hence of covolume bounded away from $0$. When the ambient group $G$ is compactly presented, we show in addition that the collection of those lattices falls into finitely many $\operatorname{Aut}(G)$-orbits. As an application, we establish finiteness results for discrete groups acting on products of locally finite graphs with semiprimitive local action on each factor. We also present several intermediate results of independent interest. Notably it is shown that if a non-discrete, compactly generated quasi just-non-compact tdlc group $G$ is a Chabauty limit of discrete subgroups, then some compact open subgroup of $G$ is an infinitely generated pro-$p$ group for some prime $p$. It is also shown that in any Kazhdan group with discrete amenable radical, the lattices form an open subset of the Chabauty space of closed subgroups.

We prove duality isomorphisms of certain representations of ${\mathcal{W}}$-algebras which play an essential role in the quantum geometric Langlands program and some related results.

In this paper we study consequences of the results of Kang et al. [Monoidal categorification of cluster algebras, J. Amer. Math. Soc. 31 (2018), 349–426] on a monoidal categorification of the unipotent quantum coordinate ring $A_{q}(\mathfrak{n}(w))$ together with the Laurent phenomenon of cluster algebras. We show that if a simple module $S$ in the category ${\mathcal{C}}_{w}$ strongly commutes with all the cluster variables in a cluster $[\mathscr{C}]$, then $[S]$ is a cluster monomial in $[\mathscr{C}]$. If $S$ strongly commutes with cluster variables except for exactly one cluster variable $[M_{k}]$, then $[S]$ is either a cluster monomial in $[\mathscr{C}]$ or a cluster monomial in $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}_{k}([\mathscr{C}])$. We give a new proof of the fact that the upper global basis is a common triangular basis (in the sense of Qin [Triangular bases in quantum cluster algebras and monoidal categorification conjectures, Duke Math. 166 (2017), 2337–2442]) of the localization $\widetilde{A}_{q}(\mathfrak{n}(w))$ of $A_{q}(\mathfrak{n}(w))$ at the frozen variables. A characterization on the commutativity of a simple module $S$ with cluster variables in a cluster $[\mathscr{C}]$ is given in terms of the denominator vector of $[S]$ with respect to the cluster $[\mathscr{C}]$.

Let $k$ be a perfect field of characteristic $p>0$ and let $\operatorname{W}$ be the ring of Witt vectors of $k$. In this article, we give a new proof of the Frobenius descent for convergent isocrystals on a variety over $k$ relative to $\operatorname{W}$. This proof allows us to deduce an analogue of the de Rham complexes comparison theorem of Berthelot [$\mathscr{D}$-modules arithmétiques. II. Descente par Frobenius, Mém. Soc. Math. Fr. (N.S.) 81 (2000)] without assuming a lifting of the Frobenius morphism. As an application, we prove a version of Berthelot’s conjecture on the preservation of convergent isocrystals under the higher direct image by a smooth proper morphism of $k$-varieties.

Gallagher’s theorem is a sharpening and extension of the Littlewood conjecture that holds for almost all tuples of real numbers. We provide a fibre refinement, solving a problem posed by Beresnevich, Haynes and Velani in 2015. Hitherto, this was only known on the plane, as previous approaches relied heavily on the theory of continued fractions. Using reduced successive minima in lieu of continued fractions, we develop the structural theory of Bohr sets of arbitrary rank, in the context of diophantine approximation. In addition, we generalise the theory and result to the inhomogeneous setting. To deal with this inhomogeneity, we employ diophantine transference inequalities in lieu of the three distance theorem.

We describe generators of disguised residual intersections in any commutative Noetherian ring. It is shown that, over Cohen–Macaulay rings, the disguised residual intersections and algebraic residual intersections are the same, for ideals with sliding depth. This coincidence provides structural results for algebraic residual intersections in a quite general setting. It is shown how the DG-algebra structure of Koszul homologies affects the determination of generators of residual intersections. It is shown that the Buchsbaum–Eisenbud family of complexes can be derived from the Koszul–Čech spectral sequence. This interpretation of Buchsbaum–Eisenbud families has a crucial rule to establish the above results.

We prove the analogue of the Ax–Lindemann–Weierstrass theorem for not necessarily arithmetic lattices of the automorphism group of the complex unit ball $\mathbb{B}^{n}$ using methods of several complex variables, algebraic geometry and Kähler geometry. Consider a torsion-free lattice $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}\,\subset \,\text{Aut}(\mathbb{B}^{n})$ and the associated uniformization map $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}:\mathbb{B}^{n}\rightarrow \mathbb{B}^{n}/\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}=:X_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}}$. Given an algebraic subset $S\,\subset \,\mathbb{B}^{n}$ and writing $Z$ for the Zariski closure of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}(S)$ in $X_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}}$ (which is equipped with a canonical quasi-projective structure), in some precise sense we realize $Z$ as a variety uniruled by images of algebraic subsets under the uniformization map, and study the asymptotic geometry of an irreducible component $\widetilde{Z}$ of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}^{-1}(Z)$ as $\widetilde{Z}$ exits the boundary $\unicode[STIX]{x2202}\mathbb{B}^{n}$ by exploiting the strict pseudoconvexity of $\mathbb{B}^{n}$, culminating in the proof that $\widetilde{Z}\,\subset \,\mathbb{B}^{n}$ is totally geodesic. Our methodology sets the stage for tackling problems in functional transcendence theory for arbitrary lattices of $\text{ Aut}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA})$ for (possibly reducible) bounded symmetric domains $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}$.

For a proper, smooth scheme $X$ over a $p$-adic field $K$, we show that any proper, flat, semistable ${\mathcal{O}}_{K}$-model ${\mathcal{X}}$ of $X$ whose logarithmic de Rham cohomology is torsion free determines the same ${\mathcal{O}}_{K}$-lattice inside $H_{\text{dR}}^{i}(X/K)$ and, moreover, that this lattice is functorial in $X$. For this, we extend the results of Bhatt–Morrow–Scholze on the construction and the analysis of an $A_{\text{inf}}$-valued cohomology theory of $p$-adic formal, proper, smooth ${\mathcal{O}}_{\overline{K}}$-schemes $\mathfrak{X}$ to the semistable case. The relation of the $A_{\text{inf}}$-cohomology to the $p$-adic étale and the logarithmic crystalline cohomologies allows us to reprove the semistable conjecture of Fontaine–Jannsen.

Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean locally compact field of residual characteristic $p$ with Weil group ${\mathcal{W}}_{F}$. Let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$ be an irreducible smooth complex representation of ${\mathcal{W}}_{F}$, realized as the Langlands parameter of an irreducible cuspidal representation $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ of a general linear group over $F$. In an earlier paper we showed that the ramification structure of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$ is determined by the fine structure of the endo-class $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E9}$ of the simple character contained in $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$, in the sense of Bushnell and Kutzko. The connection is made via the Herbrand function $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F9}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E9}}$ of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E9}$. In this paper we concentrate on the fundamental Carayol case in which $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$ is totally wildly ramified with Swan exponent not divisible by $p$. We show that, for such $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$, the associated Herbrand function satisfies a certain functional equation, and that this property essentially characterizes this class of representations. We calculate $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F9}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E9}}$ explicitly, in terms of a classical Herbrand function arising naturally from the classification of simple characters. We describe exactly the class of functions arising as Herbrand functions $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F9}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EF}}$, as $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EF}$ varies over the set of totally wild endo-classes of Carayol type. In a separate argument, we derive a complete description of the restriction of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}$ to any ramification subgroup and hence a detailed interpretation of the Herbrand function. This gives concrete information concerning the Langlands correspondence.

Let $(M,I,J,K,g)$ be a hyperkähler manifold. Then the complex manifold $(M,I)$ is holomorphic symplectic. We prove that for all real $x,y$, with $x^{2}+y^{2}=1$ except countably many, any finite-energy $(xJ+yK)$-holomorphic curve with boundary in a collection of $I$-holomorphic Lagrangians must be constant. By an argument based on the Łojasiewicz inequality, this result holds no matter how the Lagrangians intersect each other. It follows that one can choose perturbations such that the holomorphic polygons of the associated Fukaya category lie in an arbitrarily small neighborhood of the Lagrangians. That is, the Fukaya category is local. We show that holomorphic Lagrangians are tautologically unobstructed. Moreover, the Fukaya $A_{\infty }$ algebra of a holomorphic Lagrangian is formal. Our result also explains why the special Lagrangian condition holds without instanton corrections for holomorphic Lagrangians.

We study Tate motives with integral coefficients through the lens of tensor triangular geometry. For some base fields, including $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}$ and $\overline{\mathbb{F}_{p}}$, we arrive at a complete description of the tensor triangular spectrum and a classification of the thick tensor ideals.

We show how the modular representation theory of inner forms of general linear groups over a non-Archimedean local field can be brought to bear on the complex theory in a remarkable way. Let $\text{F}$ be a non-Archimedean locally compact field of residue characteristic $p$, and let $\text{G}$ be an inner form of the general linear group $\text{GL}_{n}(\text{F})$ for $n\geqslant 1$. We consider the problem of describing explicitly the local Jacquet–Langlands correspondence $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}\mapsto _{\text{JL}}\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ between the complex discrete series representations of $\text{G}$ and $\text{GL}_{n}(\text{F})$, in terms of type theory. We show that the congruence properties of the local Jacquet–Langlands correspondence exhibited by A. Mínguez and the first author give information about the explicit description of this correspondence. We prove that the problem of the invariance of the endo-class by the Jacquet–Langlands correspondence can be reduced to the case where the representations $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ and $_{\text{JL}}\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ are both cuspidal with torsion number $1$. We also give an explicit description of the Jacquet–Langlands correspondence for all essentially tame discrete series representations of $\text{G}$, up to an unramified twist, in terms of admissible pairs, generalizing previous results by Bushnell and Henniart. In positive depth, our results are the first beyond the case where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ and $_{\text{JL}}\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ are both cuspidal.
