Diversity statement
The editors of JGH believe that diversity contributes significantly to the quality of the Journal. Diversity in perspectives broadens the scope of historical research and stimulates historical debate. Our aim to serve a global readership with the latest insights from global historical research and debates also implies that the different backgrounds and experiences of our authors matter. In these goals we are aligned with those of our publisher, Cambridge University Press.
We are taking active steps to encourage diversity of submissions and in the peer review process. These include the following:
- We strive for diversity in selecting expert peer reviews for articles.
- The JGH review process is double-blind to mitigate bias and ensure academic integrity.
- The editors offer occasional guest lectures and seminars on “how to publish” with JGH, often specifically targeted at under-represented groups. We are happy to hear from institutions and individuals who might like to partner with us on such events.
- The editors advise against proposals for commissioned sections (e.g. for the Arenas in Global History or future special issues) that do not have a diverse slate of authors.
The editors are open to further suggestions for how JGH can strengthen its reputation as a diverse and welcoming venue for the very best in global historical publishing.
