Fix a $\tau$-connection DL on a line bundle L over $X\times \mathbb{C}$, where X is a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least three. Let $\mathcal{M}_X(D_L)$ denote the moduli space of all semistable $\tau$-connections of rank n, where $n\geq 2$, with the property that the induced $\tau$-connection on the top exterior product is isomorphic to (L, DL). Let $\mathcal{M}_Y(D_M)$ be the similar moduli space for another Riemann surface Y with genus(Y) = genus(X), where DM is a $\tau$-connection on a line bundle M over $Y\times \mathbb{C}$. We prove that if the variety $\mathcal{M}_X(D_L)$ is isomorphic to $\mathcal{M}_Y(D_M)$, then X is isomorphic to Y.

Let $\mathcal{M}^D_X$ denote the moduli space of all rank n flat connections on X. We prove that $\mathcal{M}^D_X$ determines X up to finitely many Riemann surfaces. For the very general Riemann surface X, the variety $\mathcal{M}^D_X$ determines X.

In [Kelmer, Scarring on invariant manifolds for perturbed quantized hyperbolic toral automorphisms, Comm. Math. Phys. 276 (2007), 381–395] we introduced a family of symplectic maps of the torus whose quantization exhibits scarring on invariant co-isotropic submanifolds. The purpose of this note is to show that in contrast to other examples, where failure of quantum unique ergodicity is attributed to high multiplicities in the spectrum, for these examples the spectrum is (generically) simple.

We prove that any skew-symmetrizable cluster algebra is unistructural, which is a conjecture by Assem, Schiffler and Shramchenko. As a corollary, we obtain that a cluster automorphism of a cluster algebra ${\mathcal{A}}({\mathcal{S}})$ is just an automorphism of the ambient field ${\mathcal{F}}$ which restricts to a permutation of the cluster variables of ${\mathcal{A}}({\mathcal{S}})$.

We prove that the $p$-completed Brown–Peterson spectrum is a retract of a product of Morava $E$-theory spectra. As a consequence, we generalize results of Kashiwabara and of Ravenel, Wilson and Yagita from spaces to spectra and deduce that the notion of a good group is determined by Brown–Peterson cohomology. Furthermore, we show that rational factorizations of the Morava $E$-theory of certain finite groups hold integrally up to bounded torsion with height-independent exponent, thereby lifting these factorizations to the rationalized Brown–Peterson cohomology of such groups.

We prove that the quotient by ${\mathrm{SL} }_{2} \times {\mathrm{SL} }_{2} $ of the space of bidegree $(a, b)$ curves on ${ \mathbb{P} }^{1} \times { \mathbb{P} }^{1} $ is rational when $ab$ is even and $a\not = b$.

Khovanov–Lauda–Rouquier (KLR) algebras of finite Lie type come with families of standard modules, which under the Khovanov–Lauda–Rouquier categorification correspond to PBW bases of the positive part of the corresponding quantized enveloping algebra. We show that there are no non-zero homomorphisms between distinct standard modules and that all non-zero endomorphisms of a standard module are injective. We present applications to the extensions between standard modules and modular representation theory of KLR algebras.

Explicit formulas for $K$-types of a $({\frak g}; K)$ module, such as Blattner's formula, are well known. However, the formulas are often too complex to make the $K$-type structure transparent. In this note we make use of some ideas of Vogan linking the ‘edges’ of the set of $K$-types to a certain restriction map from ${\frak u}$ to ${\frak u} \cap {\frak t}$ cohomology. It is hoped that such ideas will lead to tighter control of the set of $K$-types.

Let $X$ be an algebraic curve. We study the problem of parametrizing geometric structures over $X$ which are only generically defined. For example, parametrizing generically defined maps (rational maps) from $X$ to a fixed target scheme $Y$. There are three methods for constructing functors of points for such moduli problems (all originally due to Drinfeld), and we show that the resulting functors are equivalent in the fppf Grothendieck topology. As an application, we obtain three presentations for the category of $D$-modules ‘on’ $B(K)\backslash G(\mathbb{A})/G(\mathbb{O})$, and we combine results about this category coming from the different presentations.

A singularity in characteristic zero is said to be of dense $F$-pure type if its modulo $p$ reduction is locally Frobenius split for infinitely many $p$. We prove that if $x\in X$ is an isolated log canonical singularity with $\mu (x\in X)\leq 2$ (where the invariant $\mu $ is as defined in Definition 1.4), then it is of dense $F$-pure type. As a corollary, we prove the equivalence of log canonicity and being of dense $F$-pure type in the case of three-dimensional isolated $ \mathbb{Q} $-Gorenstein normal singularities.

We propose a procedure to construct new smooth CR-manifolds whose local stability groups, equipped with their natural topologies, are subgroups of certain (finite-dimensional) Lie groups but not Lie groups themselves.

We prove two main results on Denjoy–Carleman classes: (1) a composite function theorem which asserts that a function $f(x)$ in a quasianalytic Denjoy–Carleman class ${\mathcal{Q}}_{M}$, which is formally composite with a generically submersive mapping $y=\unicode[STIX]{x1D711}(x)$ of class ${\mathcal{Q}}_{M}$, at a single given point in the source (or in the target) of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D711}$ can be written locally as $f=g\circ \unicode[STIX]{x1D711}$, where $g(y)$ belongs to a shifted Denjoy–Carleman class ${\mathcal{Q}}_{M^{(p)}}$; (2) a statement on a similar loss of regularity for functions definable in the $o$-minimal structure given by expansion of the real field by restricted functions of quasianalytic class ${\mathcal{Q}}_{M}$. Both results depend on an estimate for the regularity of a ${\mathcal{C}}^{\infty }$ solution $g$ of the equation $f=g\circ \unicode[STIX]{x1D711}$, with $f$ and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D711}$ as above. The composite function result depends also on a quasianalytic continuation theorem, which shows that the formal assumption at a given point in (1) propagates to a formal composition condition at every point in a neighbourhood.

We use the $A_{\infty}$-formalism to study variation in cohomology spaces under formal deformations of coherent sheaves on projective varieties. As an application we describe formal neighborhoods of some singular points in twisted Brill–Noether loci in the moduli spaces of vector bundles on a curve. Another application is a computation of the Fourier–Mukai transform of some natural line bundles on symmetric powers of a curve.

The straightening–unstraightening correspondence of Grothendieck–Lurie provides an equivalence between cocartesian fibrations between $(\infty, 1)$-categories and diagrams of $(\infty, 1)$-categories. We provide an alternative proof of this correspondence, as well as an extension of straightening–unstraightening to all higher categorical dimensions. This is based on an explicit combinatorial result relating two types of fibrations between double categories, which can be applied inductively to construct the straightening of a cocartesian fibration between higher categories.

Lattès and Kummer examples are rational transformations of compact kähler manifolds that are covered by an affine transformation of a compact torus. We present a few ergodic characteristic properties of these examples. The main results concern the case of surfaces.

Let be an abelian scheme over a scheme S which is quasi-projective over an affine noetherian scheme and let be a symmetric, rigidified, relatively ample line bundle on . We show that there is an isomorphism of line bundles on S, where d is the rank of the (locally free) sheaf . We also show that the numbers 24 and 12d are sharp in the following sense: if N>1 is a common divisor of 12 and 24, then there are data as above such that

Given a height at most two Landweber exact $\mathbb {E}_\infty$-ring $E$ whose homotopy is concentrated in even degrees, we show that any complex orientation of $E$ which satisfies the Ando criterion admits a unique lift to an $\mathbb {E}_\infty$-complex orientation $\mathrm {MU} \to E$. As a consequence, we give a short proof that the level $n$ elliptic genus lifts uniquely to an $\mathbb {E}_\infty$-complex orientation $\mathrm {MU} \to \mathrm {tmf}_1 (n)$ for all $n\, {\geq}\, 2$.

We study a theta lift from a cusp form $f$ on $U(1,1)$ to a cusp form $\mathcal{L} f$ on $U(2,1)$ (the unitary Kudla lift of $f$). We give an explicit expression of the Fourier–Jacobi expansion of $\mathcal{L} f$ in terms of periods and Hecke eigenvalues of $f$. As an application, we give a criterion for the nonvanishing of $\mathcal{L} f$.

We generalize the $\mathbb{Z}/p$metabelian birational $p$-adic section conjecture for curves, as introduced and proved in Pop [On the birational$p$-adic section conjecture, Compos. Math. 146 (2010), 621–637], to all complete smooth varieties, provided $p>2$. The condition $p>2$ seems to be of technical nature only, and might be removable.

In this paper, we investigate the action of the ${\Bbb Q}$-cohomology of the compact dual $\widehat {X}$ of a compact Shimura Variety $S(Γ)$ on the ${\Bbb Q}$-cohomology of $S(Γ)$ under a cup product. We use this to split the cohomology of $S(Γ)$ into a direct sum of (not necessarily irreducible) ${{\Bbb Q}}$-Hodge structures. As an application, we prove that for the class of arithmetic subgroups of the unitary groups ${\rm U}(p,q)$ arising from Hermitian forms over CM fields, the Mumford–Tate groups associated to certain holomorphic cohomology classes on $S(Γ)$ are Abelian. As another application, we show that all classes of Hodge type (1,1) in H2 of unitary four-folds associated to the group ${\rm U}(2,2)$ are algebraic.

After establishing some important results on the usual height of projective varieties in positive characteristic, we construct a normalized height for subvarieties of products of Drinfeld modules and investigate its properties. In case the Drinfeld modules are pairwise isogeneous, we obtain in particular that the normalized height vanishes exactly on torsion varieties, that is on translates of sub-T-modules by torsion points.
