We give necessary and sufficient conditions of the ${{L}^{p}}$-well-posedness (resp. $B_{p,\,q}^{s}$-wellposedness) for the second order degenerate differential equation with finite delays

with periodic boundary conditions $\left( Mu \right)\,\left( 0 \right)\,=\,\left( Mu \right)\,\left( 2\pi \right),\,{{\left( Mu \right)}^{\prime }}\left( 0 \right)\,=\,{{\left( Mu \right)}^{\prime }}\left( 2\pi \right)$, where $A,\,B,\,\text{and}\,M$ are closed linear operators on a complex Banach space $X$ satisfying $D\left( A \right)\,\cap \,D\left( B \right)\,\subset \,D\left( M \right)$, $F\,\text{and}\,G$ are bounded linear operators from ${{L}^{p}}\left( \left[ -2\pi ,\,0 \right];\,X \right)\,\left( \text{resp}\text{.}\,\text{B}_{p,q}^{s}\left( \left[ -2\pi ,\,0 \right];\,X \right) \right)$ into $X$.

In this paper, by using operator-valued ${\dot{C}}^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}}$-Fourier multiplier results on vector-valued Hölder continuous function spaces, we give a characterization of the $C^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}}$-well-posedness for the third order differential equations $au^{\prime \prime \prime }(t)+u^{\prime \prime }(t)=Au(t)+Bu^{\prime }(t)+f(t)$, ($t\in \mathbb{R}$), where $A,B$ are closed linear operators on a Banach space $X$ such that $D(A)\subset D(B)$, $a\in \mathbb{C}$ and $0<\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}<1$.

Using known operator-valued Fourier multiplier results on vector-valued Hölder continuous function spaces ${{C}^{\alpha }}(\mathbb{R};\,X)$, we completely characterize the ${{C}^{\alpha }}$-well-posedness of the first order degenerate differential equations with finite delay $(Mu{)}'(t)\,=\,Au(t)\,+\,F{{u}_{t}}\,+\,f(t)$ for $t\,\in \,\mathbb{R}$ by the boundedness of the $(M,\,F)$-resolvent of A under suitable assumption on the delay operator $F$, where $A,M$ are closed linear operators on a Banach space $X$ satisfying $D(A)\,\cap \,D(M)\,\ne \,\{0\}$, the delay operator $F$ is a bounded linear operator from $C([-r,0];X)$ to $X$, and $r\,>\,0$ is fixed.

We introduce the concepts of growth and spectral bound for strongly continuous semigroups acting on Fréchet spaces and show that the Banach space inequality s(A) ⩽ ω 0(T) extends to the new setting. Via a concrete example of an even uniformly continuous semigroup, we illustrate that for Fréchet spaces effects with respect to these bounds may happen that cannot occur on a Banach space.

We give a simplified proof of the complex inversion formula for semigroups and, more generally, solution families for scalar-type Volterra equations, including the stronger versions on unconditional martingale differences (UMD) spaces. Our approach is based on (elementary) Fourier analysis.

In this paper we give new results concerning the maximal regularity of the strict solution of an abstract second-order differential equation, with non-homogeneous boundary conditions of Dirichlet type, and set in an unbounded interval. The right-hand term of the equation is a Hölder continuous function.
