Cardiac Rhythms (2021) by Dr Rachel Egan
© Rachel Egan
Cardiac Rhythms is a lino print produced during lockdown reflecting on the relationship between doctor and patient in the moment of consultation and dialogue. It is about the shared ground between professional and patient, what unifies both of us.
I am a liaison psychiatrist and much of my time is spent in assessments taking place in a busy acute hospital. This piece is about letting go of the hubbub, the constant environmental noise of machines, trolleys, background voices, and focussing on that moment with the patient; what can we achieve together right here right now?
We are always looking for interesting and visually appealing images for the cover of the Journal and would welcome suggestions or pictures, which should be sent to Dr Allan Beveridge, British Journal of Psychiatry, 21 Prescot Street, London, E1 8BB, UK or [email protected].
