La théorie des lobes de stabilité en UGV est aujourd'hui maîtrisée pour des usinages suivant des trajectoires rectilignes et à engagement radial constant. Pour des trajets contenant des arcs de cercles, le diagramme des lobes de stabilité en trajectoire rectiligne n'est plus applicable directement. L'étude expérimentale qui suit propose différentes options et réglages permettant d'utiliser les lobes de stabilité en usinage rectiligne dans le cadre de l'usinage de poches. Les options de programmation de la commande numérique, la consigne de vitesse d'avance et l'engagement radial sont plus particulièrement étudiés et optimisés pour obtenir des conditions les plus stables possibles.

Current demands of higher damage-tolerance in the Aerospace industry resulted inresurging interest in β, or near β, titanium alloys. The combination of attractiveproperties of this class of alloys also led to the consideration of beta alloys forcastings. Such alloys, however, are more difficult to cut than α-β titanium alloys due totheir limited ability to work harden and the effect of β-stabilizers on ductility.These factors affect failure modes and active wear mechanisms of cutting inserts. Thispaper investigates some of the wear modes exhibited by WC-Co inserts when end milling theαnear-βalloy Ti-x.In addition to being of near-β composition, this alloy is characterized by a finesized microstructure (range of 1−5 μm). The study focuses on SEM and EDS observations ofthe wear patterns exhibited by two groups of inserts. The first is uncoated WC-Co, whereasthe second is coated with multi layers of TiAlN. The results of this post-mortem study arecompared to wear patterns, observed under identical conditions, while milling theα-β alloy Ti6Al4V. Results show that inserts used inmachining the Ti-x alloy exhibit wear modes that contrast thoseexhibited when machining Ti64. The paper discusses factors leading to such occurrences andstudies the influence of the alloy microstructure on tool effectiveness and failure modes.

Cet article traite du contrôle des décollements aérodynamiques pour réduire la consommation et les émissions de gaz à effet de serre des futurs véhicules automobiles. Après avoir passé en revue les moyens de contrôle passif, des exemples de contrôle actif par aspiration, soufflage ou par jet synthétique sont successivement présentés. Les résultats montrent le fort potentiel des solutions présentées. Des réductions de traînée proches de 20 % sont ainsi déjà envisagées sans que soit nécessaire de contraindre les géométries actuelles en termes d'habitabilité et de confort. Les coefficients de traînée aérodynamique des futurs véhicules automobiles destinés aux liaisons extra urbaines pourraient alors très prochainement tendre vers des valeurs voisines de 0,24. Cette évolution permettrait alors de réduire de 1,6 l sur 100 km la consommation moyenne d'un véhicule de moyenne gamme se déplaçant sur autoroute à la vitesse de 130 km.h-1. La réduction des émissions de gaz carbonique serait au moins de l'ordre de 7 g.km-1 suivant le cycle NEDC (New European Driving Cycle).

En cotation fonctionnelle, il est nécessaire de calculer l'influence de tous les défauts admis sur les pièces par leur cotation selon les normes ISO pour vérifier le respect des exigences fonctionnelles. La méthode CLIC (Cotation en Localisation avec Influence des Contacts) comprend des algorithmes de choix des spécifications, une méthode originale et complète de calcul 3D de la résultante dite "des droites d'analyse", au pire des cas et en statistique, et une méthode de synthèse des tolérances. Cet article présente l'influence des défauts d'une jonction sur l'exigence et la décomposition d'une exigence complexe en sous-exigences pour le cumul statistique des influences. Une application tridimensionnelle statistique est proposée avec une présentation de la feuille de calcul sous Microsoft EXCEL.

La technique de simulation des grandes échelles (SGE) est utilisée pour simuler l'écoulement dans un aspirateur de centrale hydraulique à différents points de fonctionnement. La complexité de la géométrie et le haut nombre de Reynolds de l'écoulement nécessitent l'utilisation de méthodes spécifiques. Ainsi, nous avons développé un traitement à la paroi tenant compte à la fois du frottement pariétal mais aussi du gradient de pression. La technique utilisée pour permettre de générer des conditions d'entrée instationnaires réalistes, à partir de données expérimentales, est également détaillée. Les différents régimes d'écoulements résultant de cette configuration sont alors présentés.

In this paper, we consider the possibilities of the stimulated infra-red thermography for local metallic sample thermal characterization. At first we introduce the measurement principle, which is based on the local measurement of the thermal diffusivity parameter. Then, using simulations, we demonstrate the feasibility of the method. We then present the experimental device implemented for the study. Finally, we show that this approach allows a good estimation of the thermal diffusivity of a metal sample.

For using the swirling jet for air conditioning and heating in the premises, knowledge of the thermal characteristics is more than necessary. It is for this objective that the experimental and numerical study was realized. To conduct this study, we designed and built an experimental facility to ensure proper conditions of confinement in which we placed five air blowing devices with adjustable vanes, providing multiple swirling turbulent jet with a swirl number S = 0.4. The jets were issued in the same direction and the same spacing defined between them. This study concerned the numerical simulation of the thermal mixing of confined swirling multi-jets, and examined the influence of important parameters of a swirl diffuser system on the performance characteristics. The experimental measurements are also realized for a confined domain, aiming to determine the axial and radial temperature field. The CFD investigations are carried out by an unstructured mesh to discretize the computational domain. In this work, the simulations have been performed using the finite volume method and FLUENT solver, in which the standard k-ε, K-ε realizable, k-ε RNG and the RSM turbulence model were used for turbulence computations. The validation shows that the K-ε RNG model can be used to simulate this case successfully.

In this paper, a Levy-type solution based on the modified couple stress theory isdeveloped to study the buckling behaviors of micro-plates. Based on this theory, lengthscale parameter is considered to capture the size effect of rectangular micro-plates.Minimum potential energy and adjacent-equilibrium criteria are exploited to obtain thestability equations and corresponding boundary conditions. Different boundary conditionswith two opposite edges simply supported and arbitrary boundary conditions along the otheredges are considered. To illustrate the new model, both uniaxial and biaxial loads areapplied and the critical buckling loads are defined for over a wide range of thickness,different length scale parameters and various boundary conditions. To show the accuracy ofthe formulations, present results are compared with available results in literature forspecific cases and a very good agreement is observed. Results reveal that the criticalbuckling load increases as the length scale parameter increases especially when thethickness of the micro-plates becomes in order of length scale parameter and this effectis more significant for free boundary condition.

Dans ce travail, nous présentons les premiers résultats de simulations numériques du test de rayure sur matériaux massifs. Nous avons supposé des lois de comportement de type G'Sell–Jonas, identifiées expérimentalement par indentation pour deux matériaux polymères PMMA et CR39. Nous avons modélisé la rayure générée par un indenteur sphérique de rayon R pour différents rapports a/R (avec a, le rayon de contact), pour un facteur de frottement adhésif local supposé constant µloc = 0,3. Pour un rapport a/R = 0,3, nous avons étudié l'influence du frottement adhésif local avec µloc compris entre 0 et 0,4. Les résultats obtenus par analyse numérique confirment en grande partie les observations expérimentales obtenues à l'aide de la machine de micro-rayage. Nous montrons un couplage fort entre déformation plastique sous l'indenteur, frottement, et morphologies du contact. Il est possible d'estimer en fonction des conditions de rayage, une déformation plastique moyenne représentative de la nature du contact. La déformation plastique moyenne apparaît comme une fonction complexe, dépendant du rapport a/R, du frottement local µloc et de la rhéologie du matériau, notamment son écrouissage. Enfin, en fonction des conditions de rayage (a/R, µloc) modélisées numériquement, il existe une relation unique entre la déformation plastique moyenne et des paramètres décrivant la géométrie du contact entre l'indenteur et la surface rayée, caractérisant le retour élastique à l'arrière de l'indenteur ou encore le bourrelet frontal.

Cet article présente un modèle de lubrification mixte en conjonction avec une analyse du mouvement secondaire du piston. Certains paramètres influent ce genre de mouvement tel que l'élasticité de la jupe et la forme de son profil (plat ou bombé). Les résultats montrent que ces paramètres ont une grande influence sur les forces de frottement, et par conséquent, ils ont le potentiel pour optimiser la perte de puissance par frottement du piston.

On explique le faïençage thermique à grand nombre de cycles d'une structure, par l'arrêt de propagation dans l'épaisseur des fissures initiées à la surface. Sur certains composants de centrales nucléaires les configurations des réseaux de faïençage près des soudures ont été reliées aux signes des contraintes résiduelles de soudage. On montre par ailleurs que les contraintes résiduelles locales de soudage dépendent de la dérivée seconde spatiale du champ de température de soudage. Loin des soudures dans les zones de fortes compressions on explique la présence du réseau par l'effet pénalisant, pour un acier austénitique, du pré-écrouissage sur la fatigue en déformation contrôlée. On conclut finalement que l'opération du grenaillage peut être pénalisante pour les aciers austénitiques en fatigue thermique.

In this paper, we present an experimental and numerical analysis of the influence of gear center distance variation and misalignment amplitude on dynamic response of single stage spur gear transmission systems. The experimental part is conducted on a specific test bench conceived and constructed at LASEM and composed essentially of a motor, a test gearbox and a receptor. It allows the measurement of the acceleration on the motor and receptor bearing shafts for different values of gear center distances and misalignment amplitudes. The numerical study is based on a 3D non-linear model with 36 degrees of freedom including torsional, flexural and axial displacements of the gear-shaft-bearing system. The equations of motion and the contact problem are solved simultaneously using an original procedure by coupling a normal contact algorithm and a numerical Hilbert-Hughes-Taylor schema. Agreement between measurements and calculations is satisfactory and illustrates the influence of these mounting errors on the dynamic behavior of Narrow-Faced Spur Gear.

In water supply installations, noise pollution often occurs. As a basic component of a system, a flush valve may frequently be a source of noise and vibration generated by cavitation or high turbulence levels. During valve closing or valve opening, cavitation can be a problem. In order to decrease the noise and to improve the design inside a flush valve, some experimental and numerical analyses were carried out in our laboratories. These analyses led to some improvements in the design of the valves. Cavitation occurrence was more specifically addressed, using numerical simulation, and this is the main aim of the present paper. Particularly, the use of a simplified numerical test without cavitation model is compared with one using a cavitation model. In order to define potential cavitation risks in some parts of the valve, it has been found that a simplified approach provides an accurate overview. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of cavitating flow of water through an industrial flush valve were performed using the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with a near-wall turbulence model. The flow was assumed turbulent, incompressible and steady. Two commercial CFD codes (Fluent 6.3 and Star CCM+ 3.04.009) were used to analyse the effects of inlet pressure as well as mesh size and mesh type on cavitation intensity in the flush valve.

À partir d'un modèle de transport d'eau en milieu biphasique et élastique [I. Mrani, J.-C. Bénet, G. Fras, Transport of water in a biconstituant elasticmedium, Appl. Mech. Rev., special issue on Mechanics of swelling 48 (1995) 717–721], on examine dans cette étude les risques de fissurationsinduites par la redistribution d'eau dans un échantillon de forme cylindriqueaprès séchage. La résolution numérique de l'équation de transport de l'eau et del'équation d'équilibre mécanique donnent accès à l'évolution de la teneur eneau, de la déformation et des contraintes dans le milieu. On s'intéressera àl'état du matériau pendant les phases de séchage, de refroidissement et destockage. À l'issue de cette étude, les risques de fissuration sont analyséspour différents scénarios de séchage, qui déterminent l'évolution de l'étathydrique pendant le stockage.

Since 1994, HDS is a major player in the design of complex composite parts, especiallyfor racing sailing yachts [1]. In this paper, wesuggest to present our approach in the design and finite-element modelling of the rigidwing-sail of the trimaran that won the 33rd America’s Cup, held in February 2010. From thedecision to design the wing-sail to the assembly on the maxi trimaran, we will present thedifferent steps of design and computation: principles and assessment of the aerodynamicloads, structural design and modelling with tools adapted to each problem, massoptimization. Then, we will detail some of the numerical problems that we faced in thisproject.

L'objectif de cette étude est de minimiser, par rotationsinusoïdale, le coefficient de traînée moyen d'un cylindrecirculaire en régime laminaire. Une procédure d'optimisationcouplant modèle réduit par POD et méthode à région de confiance(TRPOD) est utilisée. Cette approche conduit à une réduction ducoefficient de traînée de 30 % pour un coût de calcul limité.

Le moulage par injection de poudres métalliques consiste à injecter des mélanges polymères/poudres métalliques. Durant l'écoulement de ces mélanges dans les moules, il peut se produire des effets de ségrégation de phases, conduisant à des défauts de formes, de propriétés physiques et mécaniques lors des étapes ultérieures du procédé. Un pilote expérimental de moulage par injection métallique, précédemment mis au point au laboratoire, est utilisé pour réaliser des composants moulés permettant d'analyser les différentes étapes du procédé. Une méthode expérimentale est développée pour déterminer la répartition de densité sur divers types de composants moulés. Une modélisation de ces phénomènes à partir de la théorie des mélanges pour les écoulements bi-phasiques est proposée. La simulation numérique des écoulements de polymères chargés en poudres solides a été développée. Enfin des exemples de simulation de remplissage, avec analyse prédictive des zones de ségrégation, sont donnés et des comparaisons calculs-expériences montrent le degré de validité de l'approche proposée.

In this paper, the mechanical properties of plasma-sprayed coatings are evaluated usingthe technology of nanoindentation. According to the indentation curve (load versusindenter’s displacement), which is recorded in an indentation experiment, the mechanicalbehaviour of the plasma-sprayed coating is investigated via inverse analysis usingnumerical optimization algorithms. The tip rounding of imperfect indenter is investigatedin parameter identification. Subsequently, the hardness on the top surface and on thevertical cross section of the plasma-sprayed coating are investigated. The results showthat the hardness on the top surface of the coating depends on the indentation depth.Moreover, the results show that the hardness on the cross section of the coating issignificantly affected by the substrate if the indentation impression is too close to thecoating-substrate interface.

Since a few years, a new wind measurement instrument has been competing with standard cupanemometers: the LiDAR. The performances of this instrument over complex terrain are stilla matter of debate and this is mainly due to the flow homogeneity assumption made by theinstrument. In this work, the error caused by this hypothesis was evaluated with the helpof OpenFOAM 1.7, MeteoDyn WT 4.0 and WAsP Engineering for a LiDAR deployed on a complexsite covered with dense forest. The assessment of the CFD model firstly revealed thesignificant impact of both the location and nature of the inlet boundary condition.Despite the presence of terrain complexity within a radius of 340 m around the remotesensor, an averaged error of less than 3% was observed, suggesting that the LiDAR is onlyaffected by topographic variations in the immediate vicinity of the scanned volume.

In this paper, we present techniques for fatigue damage evaluation using spectral methodsand a model taking into account confined elasto-plastic behavior. The model is associatedwith a local fatigue approach, covering the whole endurance domain (low cycle and highcycle fatigue). It uses Neuber’s method and is valid for limited plasticity. To validatethis modeling, we perform a correlation between spectral methods, modified spectralmethods and experimental tests. Results presented here are focused on the uniaxial loadingcase.
