Preventing burnout and promoting resilience are important to the well-being of health care professionals and the quality of patient care. Indeed, it’s a promising way to mitigate the negative effects of stressors and allow professional growth.

study the association between job satisfaction and resilience in medical interns and residents.

As part of a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study, interns and medical residents completed an online self-questionnaire using ’Google Forms’. It collected socio-demographic data and assessed the level of job satisfaction using a 5-point Likert-type scale for each item. The Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) was used to assess the level of resilience.

The total number of participants was 56, of which 64.3% were medical residents.75% of the participants worked in a medical department and most had a number of shifts per month ≥4. The average years of practice was 2.27±1.23 years. Participants expressed dissatisfaction at work with salary (69.6%), task allocation and organization (66.1%), availability of resources (66.1%), comfort (57.1%), safety (53.6%) and supervision (50%). Referring to the BRS scale, higher resilience scores were objectified in male participants (p=0.002). The level of resilience decreased with the number of years of practice (p=0.039). Good satisfaction by management and recognition at work could enhance the level of resilience (p=0.029 and p=0.043 respectively).

The results of our study suggest that dissatisfaction with work-related aspects may influence the level of resilience. These results deserve special attention to improve job satisfaction and preserve resilience.

According to the Global Burden of Disease study (WHO, 2010), epilepsy is ranked as the second most impacting neurological disorder worldwide, in terms of disability-adjusted life years, and is often associated with psychiatric comorbidities, stigma and high economic costs. This frequent association between epilepsy and mental disorders is a fact, however, they are often underdiagnosed and undertreated in patients with epilepsy, which further reduces the quality of life of this population and induces the demand for psychiatric emergency care.

To give the comorbid relevance between epilepsy and mental disorders, this study aims to identify the main psychiatric illnesses associated with patients with epilepsy treated at the emergency of a psychiatric hospital in 2020. In addition to establishing the clinical and epidemiological factors related to this association.

All patients diagnosed with epilepsy (G40), according to the International Classification of Diseases, who underwent emergency care at the HABM, São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo, in 2020. Epidemiological and clinical data were collected.

There were 7258 consultations, with only 27 as cid G40. 71.4% were male, 55% single and age between 42-49 years old. 47.6% indicated psychiatric comorbidities (cid F06). 23.8% patients with both disorders were attended by psychiatrist.

The concomitant occurrence of psychiatric disorders and epilepsy has significant relevance. However, it is known that the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders in epileptic patients is sometimes late, poorly conducted or even underdiagnosed. Therefore, knowing the profile of patients with epilepsy allows us to identify the factors associated with the concomitant of psychiatric disorders.

Hypokalemia is often detected on standard biological assessments of patients hospitalized for psychiatric disorders. Many explanations are advanced by clinicians like insufficient food intake or drug effects. But what if there was a relationship between this ionic disorder and psychotic relapses?

To assess the frequency of hypokalemia in patients hospitalized for a psychotic relapse and to study its relationship with certain clinical characteristics.

This is a cross-sectional study conducted over a 3-month period (july-september 2021), including 37 male patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and hospitalized in a psychiatric unit for a psychotic relapse. Patients had blood collection before medication that was sent for a complete blood count and blood chemistry testing.

Blood potassium level ranged from 2.92 to 4.87 mmol/L with an average of 3.74 mmol/l. Half patients ( 54.1% , N=20 ) had hypokalemia. Among them, two had electric signs on their ECG and two had physical symptoms. In patients with hypokalemia, the cause of hospitalization was the agitation in 80% of cases versus 58.8% in patients with normal potassium levels. The correlation was not significant between hypokalemia and the use of a restraint (p=0.160) or the somatic history (p=0.495).

hypokalemia is an ionic disorder that should be detected in patients with schizophrenia. It exposes the patient to the risk of a sudden death, especially with use of antipsychotics that are at a high risk for torsade de pointes.

Externalizing disorders involve undercontrolled, impulsive, or aggressive behavior. Included in this category are Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Attention deficit hyperactivity. Difficulties with emotion regulation are a core feature of externalizing disorders in children and adolescents. Yet, no studies to date have compared the relative efficacy of an ECBT program in this population.

to investigate the effectiveness of an ECBT inspired program in children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct Disorder (CD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

We conducted an experimental study with a pretest posttest design and a control group. 50 subjects with either ADHD, ODD or CD were selected and assigned to the experimental and control group. 25 patients ages 9–18 (13 boys, 12 girls) were enrolled in the ECBT-inspired program with 19 completing treatment. Comparison of pre- and post-test results for each sub-group was performed using the Wilcoxon test.

showed that youths in the ADHD and ODD groups demonstrated a significant reduction in externalizing behavior problems measured by the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). In terms of emotional regulation, only the group of patients with ODD showed a significant improvement in the cognitive reappraisal subscale of the emotional regulation questionnaire(ERQ- CA ). Only in the ODD group, significant improvement was found in the identification and external oriented thniking subscale scores of the alexithymia questionnaire for children (AQC).

Such comparisons are necessary to determine the clinical profile of patients who might most benefit from such an intervention.

Physical restraint is a therapeutic procedure allowing to immobilize an agitated patient.Although it is an effective method especially in the states of psychomotor instability, its practice is not devoid of risks which imposes a codified technique with particular monitoring.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the knowledge of nurses and nursing assistants in the practice and monitoring of physical restraint and to establish a suitble protocol codifing it.

Our study was a descriptive cross-sectional study based on a questionnaire grouping together a set of questions on general and professional characteristics, the decision of physical restraint, its prescription, its means, its monitoring, informing the patient and his relatives, physical restraint’s risks, the patient’s experience, the caregiver’s experience as well as the relationship between caregiver and patient. Our target population was composed of nurses and orderlies of the psychiatry department <<D>> of the Razi hospital in Manouba.

We collected 30 professinals.90% of them were women. 30% of our sample had less than five years of experience. Only 23.30% of caregivers had mental health training at the beginning of their professional career. 50% of them received training focused on physical restraint.83.30% reported using physical restraint for psychomotor agitation.56.6% ignored the psychological effects of the physical straint on patients. 73.3% of caregivers informed patients before straint.

A physical restraint protocol, codifying the technique of implementation and monitoring parameters is needed in order to improve the relation patient-cargiver and ensure an optimal care .

Priapism is an abnormally prolonged erection, painful and irreducible, unrelated to sexual stimulation. Around 25-40% of cases are iatrogenic, especially associated with pharmacological treatments, of which antipsychotics (first and second generation) account for 50%.

The aim is to discuss a clinical case to provide further evidence.

The patient was a 37-year-old man with a diagnosis of schizophrenia who was admitted for clinical decompensation. He had stopped antipsychotic treatment three months earlier due to side effects. He reported previous episodes of priapism associated with Risperidone, Aripiprazole, Olanzapine, and Paliperidone. At admission, he was administered Asenapine 20mg with development of priapism. Treatment was stopped. The urologists performed a lavage of the corpora cavernosa and administered adrenaline. In the absence of effectiveness, surgical intervention was successfully performed. Given the psychopathological improvement, he was discharged without antipsychotic treatment and close follow-up.

He presented a new admission one month later. Amisulpride was prescribed up to 800mg/day with good evolution and no adverse effects.

Antipsychotic-induced priapism appears to be related to the blockade of alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the corpora cavernosa. There is a positive correlation between the affinity for the receptor and the propensity to cause priapism. The dose and duration of the medication do not appear to be correlated. Other risk factors are a history of previous episodes, restarting medication after noncompliance, use of concomitant substances or medications that cause priapism. Our choice of amisulpride was based on the fact that it has no affinity for alpha-1 adrenergic receptors.

Firesetting is a behavior, arson is a crime, and pyromania is a psychiatric diagnosis. Arson is a criminal act in which a person or group of persons willing fully and maliciously sets fire or aid in firesetting to cause harm to property, people, and infrastructure. The likelihood of an arson offender having schizophrenia is 20 times greater than that in the general population. Here, we describe the case of a male in his 50’s, a first-time arsonist, who suffered from schizophrenia since his late teens prior to the onset of random firesetting behavior.

To understand the association between Arson and Schizophrenia.

A case report, as well as a review of the literature, was conducted.

The patient is a male in his 50’s carrying a diagnosis of Schizophrenia with over 50 inpatient hospitalizations. He was observed standing on the threshold of a neighbor’s apartments where he allegedly set fire to a pile of clothing. These charges are based upon allegations that he attempted to set fire to a 14-storey apartment building. At the time of his assessment, he was floridly psychotic. He was found not fit to stand trial. He was restarted on Clozapine and Depakote which is the medication he had the most success with.

Literature shows that Arson and firesetting behaviors are quite commonly seen in patients with mental disorders. Arson often has sequelae that negatively impact the community. The strong correlation between firesetting behavior and mental disorders needs extensive, detailed collaboration between psychiatry, legal expertise, and fire services.

A psychotic episode might stem from various psychiatric disorders, such as Major Depressive Disorder, Mania, Autism Spectrum Disorder, it might lead to Schizophrenia, or it might be a single event.

The study aimed to assess the main comorbidities encountered in the onset of psychotic episodes in children and adolescents, who were hospitalized in a pediatric psychiatry department for at least one night. Furthermore, another objective was to establish whether a family history of mental illness or a poor socio-economic status have bigger impact on the evolution of these patients.

To analyze the objectives, it was used an observational study, based on patients with the onset of a psychotic episode and associated diagnosis according to ICD-10, evaluated in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Department of “Prof. Dr. Al. Obregia” Hospital, between 2015-2019. Patients with psychotic episodes with onset related to Major Depressive Disorder and Mania or a personal history of Schizophrenia were excluded.

The most frequent associated comorbidity was Autism Spectrum Disorder. In terms of long-term evolution, patients with comorbidities have poorer outcomes, more relapses and hospitalizations. Family history of mental illness, low socio-economic status, the age of onset were found to be prognostic factors and have an important impact on the outcome.

This study compared patients with psychotic episodes with and without comorbid conditions associated, considering the length of hospitalization period, the evolution and the number of relapses. The presence and the type of comorbidities are important factors of evolution and prognostic for these patients.

Cancer survivors frequently report suffering from neurocognitive impairment, that persists after physical recovery from their disease. Cognitive impairment is associated with important emotional disturbances, socio-professional consequences and diminished quality of life.

This observational study aims to assess the effectives of an integrative neurocognitive remediation therapy (iNRCT), offered as a 12-week program (1day/week), organized within our Cognitive Remediation Clinic. The iNCRT combines personalized computerized cognitive training and neurocognitive strategy training, with group sessions of physical exercise, mindfulness, and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).

The assessment before and after NCRT includes neuropsychological testing (10 subtests), assessment of daily functioning and subjective neurocognitive function (NCF).

Out of 16 eligible cancer survivors, 12 patients were recruited and 11 completed the iNCRT; median age 53 years [range, 41-71]; 3 patients had a prior history of a central nervous system tumor, 5 patients of breast cancer, 2 patients of stage-IV melanoma, and 1 patient of gastric cancer. After iNCRT subjective NCF did not improve significantly (p=0.13) according to the Cognitive Failure Questionnaire. However neuropsychological assessment revealed an improvement on ≥ 1 impaired subtest in all patients; 6 patients improved on ≥ 4 impaired subtests. Improvement was most prominent in long-term verbal and visual memory, working memory and executive function. All patients reported a clinical benefit in their daily function after completion of iNCRT.

Our iNRCT, which combines personalized neurocognitive training with physical exercise, mindfulness and CBT can be an effective therapeutic model for treating neurocognitive impairment in cancer survivors, with a clinically relevant impact on their daily function.

An established body of literature has identified that PTSD and dissociation are comorbid. Furthermore, the DSM introduced a dissociative subtype of PTSD into their most recent update; DSM-5.

The current study aimed to examine symptom-level associations between PTSD and dissociation using network analysis among UK Armed Forces veterans resident in Northern Ireland (NI) to identify if there are certain symptoms that may act as bridges between the two constructs.

A large scale cross sectional survey was conducted examining the physical and mental wellbeing of UK Armed Forces Veterans living in NI. The total eligible sample size was 619 (89.8% male), with a mean age of 55.38 years (SD = 10.41). Two networks were estimated, (1) a network consisting of 20 DSM-5 PTSD items and (2) a network consisting of 20 PTSD items and four dissociative items. Expected influence bridge centrality was calculated to examine symptoms with the most/strongest cross-domain associations (i.e. between PTSD and dissociation). The presence of meaningful clustering among symptoms was also explored.

The PTSD symptoms ‘concentration problems’, ‘flashbacks’ and ‘negative emotional state’ had the highest relative bridge expected influence centrality. Of the four dissociative items, ‘gaps in awareness’ had the highest relative bridge expected influence centrality, followed by ‘cognitive-behavioural re-experiencing’. A community structure of five clusters was detected. Four clusters reflected each subscale of the PCL-5 PTSD items and the final cluster reflected the dissociation items.

This study extends our understanding of PTSD and disociation comorbidity by investigating symptom level relationships; potentially informing future treatments and interventions.

Since the first outbreak, the Covid-19 pandemic has had and still has several implications worldwide, particularly in severe mentally ill patients, leading to multiple challenges in their management.

We aim to assess the impact and implications of the Covid-19 pandemic on patients with Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders (SSD) and the treatment recommendations available.

We conduct an integrative review using PubMed database. Search terms included: “psychosis” AND “COVID-19 pandemic”, “schizophrenia and COVID-19”, “severe mental illness” AND “COVID-19”. The search period was between 1st January 2020 and 31th July 2021.

Studies postulated that people with SSD are at a higher risk of COVID-19 infection with a poorer medical and social outcome which is attributed to factors such as higher rates of disadvantageous lifestyle behaviours, medical comorbidities, antipsychotic medication metabolic effects, psychosocial adversities, smaller social networks and poor engagement with general health services. The Covid-19 pandemic also demanded adjustments in treatment guidelines and monitoring, particularly in patients with SSD on Clozapine. Many studies address the importance of psychiatric care and treatment during the pandemic. They emphasize rapid implementation of measures to decrease the risk of COVID-19 transmission and maintain continuity care and research. An individualized and flexible approach is needed to promote safety of SSD patients.

Particular attention is required by clinicians to help SSD patients face the current pandemic situation. Future epidemiological studies are needed in order to better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in this population and provide proper care.

Acute mania can have behavioral effects such as agitation, being a frequent cause of presentation in the emergency department. Pharmacological treatments include mood stabilizers and atypical antipsychotics. Valproate is an effective drug. However, the intravenous formulation is relegated to other pathologies, such as epilepsy.

The objective was to review the use of intravenous valproate in acute mania in the literature and present its use through a clinical case.

A clinical case using intravenous valproate to treat an episode of acute mania is described and the scientific literature of the last 5 years is reviewed.

A 43-year-old patient attended the emergency department with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder type I in manic episode with agitation, rejection of oral medication, brought in by the police due to risk of aggression against family members, who reported that the patient had stopped taking her usual medication with valproate 500 mg / 24h and quetiapine 200 mg / 24h threemonths ago. Due to the possibility of having intravenous valproate, it was decided to administer 300 mg intravenously, as well as haloperidol 5 mg intravenously, and hospitalization was decided. The patient had a favorable evolution, with no side effects to the medication, and oral treatment was started after 8 hours, with a good response. In the literature there are few studies in this regard, although the most of them approved the use of valproate as a loading dose in acute mania.

Intravenous valproate is an effective, safe, and tolerated treatment in acute mania. More studies are needed to collect precise information.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death (8.5% of all deaths) in adolescents. The search for neurobiological markers of suicidal behavior seems to be highly actual. Such markers may include quantitative EEG parameters and signs of neuroinflammation that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of various mental disorders.

The aim of the study was to reveal the relationships between pre-treatment clinical, EEG, and neuroimmunological parameters in depressive adolescents with suicidal attempts in their history.

35 female depressive patients (all right-handed, age 16–25, mean 18,7±2.9 years old) were enrolled in the study. Total HDRS-17 scores varied from 13 to 43 (mean 27,7±8.1). Multichannel resting EEG was recorded with spectral power (SP) measurements in narrow frequency sub-bands. Functional activities of leukocyte elastase (LE) and of its antagonist α1-proteinase inhibitor (α1-PI), as neuroinflammation markers, were measured in the blood plasma. Leukocyte/inhibitory index (LII=LE/α1-PI) was calculated. Spearman’s correlations between clinical, EEG, and neuroimmunological parameters were analyzed.

Sum of anxiety cluster of HDRS-17 scale (items 9, 10, 11) correlated positively (p<0.02) with LE and α1-PI values, as well as with theta1 (4-6 Hz) and theta2 (6-8 Hz) SP in EEG leads of the right hemisphere. In turn, α1-PI values correlated negatively and LII values correlated positively with alpha3 (11-13 Hz) SP in majority of EEG leads.

The data obtained confirm the contribution of neuroinflammation to clinical conditions, especially to anxiety level, and to EEG pattern in depressive female adolescents with suicidal attempts. The study supported by RBRF grant No.20-013-00129a.

Assessing of voluntary auditory verbal memory, mediated or non-mediated by meaning context is an important component of impaired mental or psychic development estimation in children with different types of dysontogenesis.

Investigation of memory in chidren with mental disorders

Participants: Children 9-12 years: ND - 25 normal development (14 boys), F70 - 31 with mild mental retardation (18 boys), F20.8 - 15 children with childhood type of schizophrenia (11 boys) and F21- 29 with schizotypal disorder (22 boys). Learning of 10 words, simple (SPA) and complex (CPA) paired associations. Assessing Parameter - auditory-speech memory efficiency in each of techniques. Mann-Whitney criterion.

There were significant differences in memory efficiency of 10 words between F21 and F70 (p≤0.01) and F70 and F20.8 (p≤0.05). Simple paired associations - no differences between all groups. Complex paired associations: F21 and F70 (p≤0.05), F21 and F20.8 (p≤0.01). ND - significant differences in memory efficiency of 10 words with all groups (F21 – p ≤0.01, F20.8 – p ≤0.05, F70 – p ≤0.01). SPA: significant differences with all groups (p≤ 0.01). CPA - significant differences words with all groups (F21 – p≤ 0.05, F20.8 – p≤ 0.01, F70 – p ≤0.01).

Сommon features of working memory in children with diseased type of development:- improved memorization with introduction of strong semantic connections for all types of dysontogenesis. For complex connections in different groups we suppose different mechanisms of destroyed memory: F70 - low level of thinking, F20.8 - decreasing in mental activity or as a result of forming defect.

Definitions used for suicide attempts and self-harm have been discussed for many years and is used differently in European countries, sometimes even interchangeably. Therefore, it is difficult to compare relevant rates across nations.

This study aims at estimating the rate of suicide attempts and self-harm in chosen European countries in the more recent years when distinguishing between applied definitions.

A systematic search for relevant articles published between 2010-2020 will be performed in databases such as PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, and Web of Science. Only articles in English or Danish will be included. Data will be collected for all age groups above 15 years of age. The prevalence of suicide attempts and self-harm will be calculated by a random effect model. Subgroup analyses will be performed to compare the rates according to age.

Lymphocytic colitis is an unusual side-effect of the treatment with SSRIs particularly sertraline. According to several sources, this side effect could be underdiagnosed and underreported.

We present the case of a 31-year-old female patient who presented watery non-bloody diarrhea for a month. The patient had been diagnosed with Persistent Depressive Disorder six years prior to the episode and was being treated with sertraline.

A case report is presented alongside a review of the relevant literature regarding Lymphocytic colitis, its differential diagnosis and treatment.

The case was coordinated between the out-patient psychiatry department and the patient’s Family Medicine specialist. The patient underwent a complete panel of tests including blood and stool test, and colonoscopy. The biopsy showed results compatible with the aforementioned diagnosis. Since the only pharmacological treatment which could cause or trigger lymphocytic colitis was sertraline, it was removed and treatment with oral budesonide was started with good results.

Lymphocytic colitis in the context of the treatment with SSRIs, particularly sertraline, is a side-effect which is more prevalent than what was thought in the past. A close coordination between psychiatrists and GP is of vital importance for the adequate treatment of mental health problems and treatment’s side-effects. It is important to bear in mind this possible side-effect to increase patient’s safety.

COVID19 has brought several psychosocial stressors that are having an impact on global mental health. The impact of the pandemic on the incidence of First Episode of Psychosis (FEP) is not clear.

To describe the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of FEP patients diagnosed since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic and compare them with the equivalent period of the previous year.

We included all FEP patients attended at Parc de Salut Mar (Barcelona, Spain) from March 14, 2020 (when the state of emergency in Spain began) to December 31, 2020 with the same period of 2019. We assessed sociodemographic variables, duration of untreated psychosis (DUP), cannabis and alcohol use, psychiatric diagnosis, and psychiatric symptom scales. We performed a univariate analysis between the groups using U-Mann Whitney for continuous variables and Chi-Square for qualitative variables.

A total of 20 FEP patients were diagnosed in each period. No differences were found in sociodemographic variables, scales scores or DUP. During COVID19 period there was a smaller proportion of cannabis users (60% vs 90%; p=0.028) and a tendency of lower weekly consumption (14.44 vs 16.42; p=0.096). There were more cases of BPD (25% vs 5%; p=0.077) and less of affective psychosis (0% vs 25%; 0.017).

During the COVID-19 pandemic we did not find an increase of FEP or more severe clinical presentations. However, we identified differences in the type of FEP that could be related to the psychosocial stressors of this time.

Bipolar Disorder (BD) is one of the most challenging and severe psychiatric disorders. Considerable research in BD patients points to deficits in Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) as a potential BD endophenotype. Accordingly, such deficits have also been found in unaffected BD first-degree relatives, but no study has been conducted to synthetize this evidence.

To conduct a systematic review of studies exploring FER deficits in first-degree relatives of patients with BD.

PRISMA 2020 recommendations will be followed. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO electronic bibliographic databases will be searched, as well as grey literature. Reference lists of the included studies will be hand-searched for additional eligible studies. Search strategy will include key-terms in accordance with the pre-established PICOS definition. No restrictions will apply regarding study design, setting, publication date nor language. Outcomes of interest will be FER deficits. Retrieved studies will be screened for eligibility by two independent reviewers using a two-phase approach. The methodological quality of primary studies will be assessed and data extracted independently using a standardized extraction form.

will be described using narrative and tabular approaches. Studies heterogeneity will be verified and if adequate a meta-analysis will be conducted. Findings will be disseminated through a peer-reviewed publication.

It is expected that this systematic review will support the hypothesis that FER deficits may constitute a potential candidate for a BD endophenotype, which will not only improve the understanding of BD neurobiology, but also enable its identification in earlier stages, allowing timely treatments and better patients’ outcomes.

The use of psychoactive substances in pregnancy has a similar profile to the general population, in which ethyl alcohol and tobacco are the most widely used drugs, followed, to a much lesser extent, by marijuana and cocaine. Cocaine is a powerful stimulant of the Central Nervous System. Like other smokable cocaines, PBC is highly fat soluble and rapidly crosses the blood-brain barrier, causing maternal-fetal harm when consumed during pregnancy. Being its pathophysiological mechanism the vasoconstriction of uterine and fetal vessels. Obstetric complications related to this toxic mechanism of action include: increased risk of spontaneous abortion, premature detachment of the normal inserted placenta, and intrauterine growth restriction.

We present how was the management of a 26-year-old woman, polytoxic, unemployed, living in a “squatting house”, referred from the Gynecology and Obstetrics service to the Addictive Behavior Unit, due to fetal alterations seen in ultrasound follow-ups. Presenting the fetus: delayed intrauterine growth, and bilateral ventriculomegaly with dilation of the left ventricle.

We report this case to social services and we started doing a weekly poison check. Presenting positive controls for both: cannabis and cocaine.

Due to the physical, psychological and environmental situation of the patient, the withdrawal of custody of her child is being considered.

These types of cases must be treated in a multidisciplinary way, with awareness of the disease and the consequences of continuing to consume must be addressed.

The COVID-19 crisis has generated an increasing stress throughout the population.

To develop and validate the Adherence Scale to the Recommendations for Mental Health during the COVID-19 pandemic from the Portuguese General Directorate of Health (GDH) (ASR-MH-COVID19).

The items content was based on the GDH guides for the prevention of mental health and psychosocial well-being of the general population during the COVID-19 outbreak. After content and facial validity analysis, the preliminary version of the ASR-MH-COVID19 (8 items to be answered on a Likert scale) was completed by 413 individuals (69.2% female; mean age=31.02±14,272), in September-December 2020 (Sample1) and then by 967 (70.9% female; mean age=34.02±14,272), in February-May 2021 (Sample2). Sample1 was randomly divided in two sub-samples. Sample1A was used for exploratory factor analysis/EFA and Sample1B for confirmatory factor analysis/CFA; CFA was then replicated with Sample2. The online surveys also included the Adherence Scale to the Recommendations of Portuguese GDH to minimize the impact of COVID-19 (ASR-COVID-19; Pereira et al. 2020).

CFAs were informed by EFA and showed that the unidimensional model presented acceptable-good fit indexes (Sample1B: χ2/df=2.747; RMSEA=.0980, p<.001; CFI=.973; TLI=.918, GFI=.972; Sample2: χ2/df=3.327; RMSEA=.0490, p<.001; CFI=.993; TLI=.983, GFI=.990). Cronbach’s alfas were α<.850. Pearson correlations between ASR-MH-COVID19 and ASR-COVID19 were significant (p<.01) and moderate-high for the total (r=.753) and dimensional scores (Distance and respiratory hygiene, r=.739; House and personal hygiene, r=.584; Use of remote services and isolation r=.425).

The new ASR-MH-COVID19 has shown validity and reliability, allowing the investigation of this (mental) health behaviour.
