EJIS does not currently accept conventional book reviews. However, the editors will occasionally publish book symposia based upon a recently published volume which is likely to have a significant impact on the field of security studies, and which speaks to the aims and scope of the journal. This book will be the subject of an extended review symposium in which three or four scholars in the field of study are invited to submit 2000-3000 word responses/reviews of the book in broad perspective, to which the author responds (1000). The symposium aims to highlight key texts in the field, to generate debate and to showcase scholarly innovations in the discipline.
The Book Review Symposium will have a total length of 11,000 words and consist of a) an introduction of the book by the author (1000 words), b) three/four responses (each 2000-3000 words) and c) a response by the author (2000 words). The symposia will generally be commissioned by the editors of EJIS, but we are also open to proposals. The Book Review Symposium will be reviewed as a whole by the editorial team and/or external experts.
