We introduce a class of notions of forcing which we call $\Sigma $ -Prikry, and show that many of the known Prikry-type notions of forcing that centers around singular cardinals of countable cofinality are $\Sigma $ -Prikry. We show that given a $\Sigma $ -Prikry poset $\mathbb P$ and a name for a non-reflecting stationary set T, there exists a corresponding $\Sigma $ -Prikry poset that projects to $\mathbb P$ and kills the stationarity of T. Then, in a sequel to this paper, we develop an iteration scheme for $\Sigma $ -Prikry posets. Putting the two works together, we obtain a proof of the following.

Theorem. If $\kappa $ is the limit of a countable increasing sequence of supercompact cardinals, then there exists a forcing extension in which $\kappa $ remains a strong limit cardinal, every finite collection of stationary subsets of $\kappa ^+$ reflects simultaneously, and $2^\kappa =\kappa ^{++}$ .

We define a limiting ${\mathfrak {sl}_N}$ Khovanov–Rozansky homology for semi-infinite positive multicolored braids. For a large class of such braids, we show that this limiting homology categorifies a highest-weight projector in the tensor product of fundamental representations determined by the coloring of the braid. This effectively completes the extension of Cautis’ similar result for infinite twist braids, begun in our earlier papers with Islambouli and Abel. We also present several similar results for other families of semi-infinite and bi-infinite multicolored braids.

Let $v \ne 0$ be a vector in ${\mathbb {R}}^n$ . Consider the Laplacian on ${\mathbb {R}}^n$ with drift $\Delta _{v} = \Delta + 2v\cdot \nabla $ and the measure $d\mu (x) = e^{2 \langle v, x \rangle } dx$ , with respect to which $\Delta _{v}$ is self-adjoint. This measure has exponential growth with respect to the Euclidean distance. We study weak type $(1, 1)$ and other sharp endpoint estimates for the Riesz transforms of any order, and also for the vertical and horizontal Littlewood–Paley–Stein functions associated with the heat and the Poisson semigroups.

We present a systematic study of threefolds fibred by K3 surfaces that are mirror to sextic double planes. There are many parallels between this theory and the theory of elliptic surfaces. We show that the geometry of such threefolds is controlled by a pair of invariants, called the generalized functional and generalized homological invariants, and we derive an explicit birational model for them, which we call the Weierstrass form. We then describe how to resolve the singularities of the Weierstrass form to obtain the “minimal form”, which has mild singularities and is unique up to birational maps in codimension 2. Finally, we describe some of the geometric properties of threefolds in minimal form, including their singular fibres, canonical divisor, and Betti numbers.

In this paper, we extend to the non-Hille–Yosida case a variation of constants formula for a nonautonomous and nonhomogeneous Cauchy problems first obtained by Gühring and Räbiger. By using this variation of constants formula, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an exponential dichotomy for the evolution family generated by the associated nonautonomous homogeneous problem. We also prove a persistence result of the exponential dichotomy for small perturbations. Finally, we illustrate our results by considering two examples. The first example is a parabolic equation with nonlocal and nonautonomous boundary conditions, and the second example is an age-structured model that is a hyperbolic equation.

We study the growth of p-primary Selmer groups of abelian varieties with good ordinary reduction at p in ${{Z}}_p$ -extensions of a fixed number field K. Proving that in many situations the knowledge of the Selmer groups in a sufficiently large number of finite layers of a ${{Z}}_p$ -extension over K suffices for bounding the over-all growth, we relate the Iwasawa invariants of Selmer groups in different ${{Z}}_p$ -extensions of K. As applications, we bound the growth of Mordell–Weil ranks and the growth of Tate-Shafarevich groups. Finally, we derive an analogous result on the growth of fine Selmer groups.

We study ring-theoretic (in)finiteness properties—such as Dedekind-finiteness and proper infiniteness—of ultraproducts (and more generally, reduced products) of Banach algebras.

While we characterise when an ultraproduct has these ring-theoretic properties in terms of its underlying sequence of algebras, we find that, contrary to the $C^*$ -algebraic setting, it is not true in general that an ultraproduct has a ring-theoretic finiteness property if and only if “ultrafilter many” of the underlying sequence of algebras have the same property. This might appear to violate the continuous model theoretic counterpart of Łoś’s Theorem; the reason it does not is that for a general Banach algebra, the ring theoretic properties we consider cannot be verified by considering a bounded subset of the algebra of fixed bound. For Banach algebras, we construct counter-examples to show, for example, that each component Banach algebra can fail to be Dedekind-finite while the ultraproduct is Dedekind-finite, and we explain why such a counter-example is not possible for $C^*$ -algebras. Finally, the related notion of having stable rank one is also studied for ultraproducts.
