Introduction
The British Journal of Nutrition (BJN) seeks original manuscripts for a Special Issue on “Nutrition and Mental Health” scheduled to appear in 2024. Mental disorders affect millions of people worldwide and are a leading cause of global disease burden. There is robust evidence that diet and lifestyle have a substantial impact on the risk of mental disorders, and growing evidence that dietary intervention can influence mental health symptoms.
Objectives and Recommended Topics
The purpose of this special issue is to capture novel research related to nutrition and mental health disorders. The scope of the Special Issue includes (but is not restricted to):
- Clinical trials investigating the effect of interventions (e.g. whole-diet, food or nutraceutical supplementation, pre-, pro- or synbiotic supplementation) on mental health outcomes.
- Methodology papers that address the substantial challenge of undertaking rigorous research at the intersection of nutrition and mental health, each of which has their own methodological challenges.
- Basic science research that provides novel insights into the mechanisms by which diet or nutrition affect mental health.
- Systematic Reviews and meta-analyses that synthesise the current evidence and bring new understanding to the topic.
- Epidemiological studies on the impact of diet or nutrition on risk of mental health conditions.
All manuscripts will be peer reviewed and will be expected to meet the usual standards required for publication in the British Journal of Nutrition.
Please submit your manuscript at mc.manuscriptcentral.com/bjn and indicate that it is intended for inclusion in the Special Issue. Instructions for Authors can be found at Preparing your materials (cambridge.org). Please send informal enquiries to the Editors via [email protected].
Please note that pre-submission enquiries are not required.
Anticipated Issue publication date: October 2024
(All papers once ready will be published ahead of Issue publication on Firstview).
