We devote this paper to study semi-stable nonconstant radial solutions of $S_k(D^2u)=w(\left \vert x \right \vert )g(u)$ on the Euclidean space $\mathbb {R}^n$. We establish pointwise estimates and necessary conditions for the existence of such solutions (not necessarily bounded) for this equation. For bounded solutions we estimate their asymptotic behaviour at infinity. All the estimates are given in terms of the spatial dimension $n$, the values of $k$ and the behaviour at infinity of the growth rate function of $w$.

Representation theorems are proved for Banach ideal spaces with the Fatou property which are built by the Calderón–Lozanovskiĭ construction. Factorization theorems for operators in spaces more general than the Lebesgue ${{L}^{p}}$ spaces are investigated. It is natural to extend the Gagliardo theorem on the Schur test and the Rubio de Francia theorem on factorization of the Muckenhoupt ${{A}_{p}}$ weights to reflexive Orlicz spaces. However, it turns out that for the scales far from ${{L}^{p}}$-spaces this is impossible. For the concrete integral operators it is shown that factorization theorems and the Schur test in some reflexive Orlicz spaces are not valid. Representation theorems for the Calderón–Lozanovskiĭ construction are involved in the proofs.

We derive Sobolev--Poincaré inequalities that estimate the $L^q(d\mu)$ norm of a function on a metric ball when $\mu$ is an arbitrary Borel measure. The estimate is in terms of the $L^1(d\nu)$ norm on the ball of a vector field gradient of the function, where $d\nu/dx$ is a power of a fractional maximal function of $\mu$. We show that the estimates are sharp in several senses, and we derive isoperimetric inequalities as corollaries. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification: 46E35, 42B25.

Two families of associated Wilson polynomials are introduced. Both families are birth and death process polynomials, satisfying the same recurrence relation but having different initial conditions. Contiguous relations for generalized hypergeometric functions of the type 7F6 are derived and used to find explicit representations for the polynomials and to compute the corresponding continued fractions. The absolutely continuous components of the orthogonality measures of both families are computed. Generating functions are also given.
