Pavlov [Adv. Math. 295 (2016), 250–270; Nonlinearity 32 (2019), 2441–2466] studied the measures of maximal entropy for dynamical systems with weak versions of specification property and found the existence of intrinsic ergodicity would be influenced by the assumptions of the gap functions. Inspired by these, in this article, we study the dynamical systems with non-uniform specification property. We give some basic properties these systems have and give an assumption for the gap functions to ensure the systems have the following five properties: CO-measures are dense in invariant measures; for every non-empty compact connected subset of invariant measures, its saturated set is dense in the total space; ergodic measures are residual in invariant measures; ergodic measures are connected; and entropy-dense. In addition, we will give examples to show the assumption is optimal.

We study conjugacy classes of germs of nonflat diffeomorphisms of the real line fixing the origin. Based on the work of Takens and Yoccoz, we establish results that are sharp in terms of differentiability classes and order of tangency to the identity. The core of all of this lies in the invariance of residues under low-regular conjugacies. This may be seen as an extension of the fact (also proved in this article) that the value of the Schwarzian derivative at the origin for germs of $C^3$ parabolic diffeomorphisms is invariant under $C^2$ parabolic conjugacy, though it may vary arbitrarily under parabolic $C^1$ conjugacy.

Niven’s theorem asserts that $\{\cos (r\pi ) \mid r\in \mathbb {Q}\}\cap \mathbb {Q}=\{0,\pm 1,\pm 1/2\}.$ In this paper, we use elementary techniques and results from arithmetic dynamics to obtain an algorithm for classifying all values in the set $\{\cos (r\pi ) \mid r\in \mathbb {Q}\}\cap K$, where K is an arbitrary number field.

In this paper, we prove the continuity of iteration operators $\mathcal {J}_n$ on the space of all continuous self-maps of a locally compact Hausdorff space X and generally discuss dynamical behaviors of them. We characterize their fixed points and periodic points for $X=\mathbb {R}$ and the unit circle $S^1$. Then we indicate that all orbits of $\mathcal {J}_n$ are bounded; however, we prove that for $X=\mathbb {R}$ and $S^1$, every fixed point of $\mathcal {J}_n$ which is non-constant and equals the identity on its range is not Lyapunov stable. The boundedness and the instability exhibit the complexity of the system, but we show that the complicated behavior is not Devaney chaotic. We give a sufficient condition to classify the systems generated by iteration operators up to topological conjugacy.

We study local biholomorphisms with finite orbits in some neighborhood of the origin since they are intimately related to holomorphic foliations with closed leaves. We describe the structure of the set of periodic points in dimension 2. As a consequence we show that given a finite-orbits local biholomorphism F, in dimension 2, there exists an analytic curve passing through the origin and contained in the fixed-point set of some non-trivial iterate of $F.$ As an application we obtain that at least one eigenvalue of the linear part of F at the origin is a root of unity. Moreover, we show that such a result is sharp by exhibiting examples of finite-orbits local biholomorphisms such that exactly one of the eigenvalues is a root of unity. These examples are subtle since we show they cannot be embedded in one-parameter groups.

We obtain conditions of uniform continuity for endomorphisms of free-abelian times free groups for the product metric defined by taking the prefix metric in each component and establish an equivalence between uniform continuity for this metric and the preservation of a coarse-median, a concept recently introduced by Fioravanti. Considering the extension of an endomorphism to the completion, we count the number of orbits for the action of the subgroup of fixed points (respectively periodic) points on the set of infinite fixed (respectively periodic) points. Finally, we study the dynamics of infinite points: for automorphisms and some endomorphisms, defined in a precise way, fitting a classification given by Delgado and Ventura, we prove that every infinite point is either periodic or wandering, which implies that the dynamics is asymptotically periodic.

We present several applications of the weak specification property and certain topological Markov properties, recently introduced by Barbieri, García-Ramos, and Li [Markovian properties of continuous group actions: algebraic actions, entropy and the homoclinic group. Adv. Math. 397 (2022), 52], and implied by the pseudo-orbit tracing property, for general expansive group actions on compact spaces. First we show that any expansive action of a countable amenable group on a compact metrizable space satisfying the weak specification and strong topological Markov properties satisfies the Moore property, that is, every surjective endomorphism of such dynamical system is pre-injective. This together with an earlier result of Li (where the strong topological Markov property is not needed) of the Myhill property [Garden of Eden and specification. Ergod. Th. & Dynam. Sys. 39 (2019), 3075–3088], which we also re-prove here, establishes the Garden of Eden theorem for all expansive actions of countable amenable groups on compact metrizable spaces satisfying the weak specification and strong topological Markov properties. We hint how to easily generalize this result even for uncountable amenable groups and general compact, not necessarily metrizable, spaces. Second, we generalize the recent result of Cohen [The large scale geometry of strongly aperiodic subshifts of finite type. Adv. Math. 308 (2017), 599–626] that any subshift of finite type of a finitely generated group having at least two ends has weakly periodic points. We show that every expansive action of such a group having a certain Markov topological property, again implied by the pseudo-orbit tracing property, has a weakly periodic point. If it has additionally the weak specification property, the set of such points is dense.

We construct two planar homoeomorphisms $f$ and $g$ for which the origin is a globally asymptotically stable fixed point whereas for $f \circ g$ and $g \circ f$ the origin is a global repeller. Furthermore, the origin remains a global repeller for the iterated function system generated by $f$ and $g$ where each of the maps appears with a certain probability. This planar construction is also extended to any dimension $>$2 and proves for first time the appearance of the dynamical Parrondo's paradox in odd dimensions.

We study a mathematical model proposed in the literature with the aim of describing the interactions between tumor cells and the immune system, when a periodic treatment of immunotherapy is applied. Combining some techniques from non-linear analysis (degree theory, lower and upper solutions, and theory of free-homeomorphisms in the plane), we give a detailed global analysis of the model. We also observe that for certain therapies, the maximum level of aggressiveness of a cancer, for which the treatment works (or does not work), can be computed explicitly. We discuss some strategies for designing therapies. The mathematical analysis is completed with numerical results and conclusions.

We show that $C^r $ generically in the space of $C^r$ conservative diffeomorphisms of a compact surface, every hyperbolic periodic point has a transverse homoclinic orbit.

We study the discrete dynamics of standard (or left) polynomials $f(x)$ over division rings D. We define their fixed points to be the points $\lambda \in D$ for which $f^{\circ n}(\lambda )=\lambda $ for any $n \in \mathbb {N}$ , where $f^{\circ n}(x)$ is defined recursively by $f^{\circ n}(x)=f(f^{\circ (n-1)}(x))$ and $f^{\circ 1}(x)=f(x)$ . Periodic points are similarly defined. We prove that $\lambda $ is a fixed point of $f(x)$ if and only if $f(\lambda )=\lambda $ , which enables the use of known results from the theory of polynomial equations, to conclude that any polynomial of degree $m \geq 2$ has at most m conjugacy classes of fixed points. We also show that in general, periodic points do not behave as in the commutative case. We provide a sufficient condition for periodic points to behave as expected.

Let $\operatorname{Homeo}_{+}(D_{n}^{2})$ be the group of orientation-preserving homeomorphisms of $D^{2}$ fixing the boundary pointwise and $n$ marked points as a set. The Nielsen realization problem for the braid group asks whether the natural projection $p_{n}:\operatorname{Homeo}_{+}(D_{n}^{2})\rightarrow B_{n}:=\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}_{0}(\operatorname{Homeo}_{+}(D_{n}^{2}))$ has a section over subgroups of $B_{n}$. All of the previous methods use either torsion or Thurston stability, which do not apply to the pure braid group $PB_{n}$, the subgroup of $B_{n}$ that fixes $n$ marked points pointwise. In this paper, we show that the pure braid group has no realization inside the area-preserving homeomorphisms using rotation numbers.

We consider closed orientable surfaces $S$ of genus $g>1$ and homeomorphisms $f:S\rightarrow S$ isotopic to the identity. A set of hypotheses is presented, called a fully essential system of curves $\mathscr{C}$ and it is shown that under these hypotheses, the natural lift of $f$ to the universal cover of $S$ (the Poincaré disk $\mathbb{D}$), denoted by $\widetilde{f},$ has complicated and rich dynamics. In this context, we generalize results that hold for homeomorphisms of the torus isotopic to the identity when their rotation sets contain zero in the interior. In particular, for $C^{1+\unicode[STIX]{x1D716}}$ diffeomorphisms, we show the existence of rotational horseshoes having non-trivial displacements in every homotopical direction. As a consequence, we found that the homological rotation set of such an $f$ is a compact convex subset of $\mathbb{R}^{2g}$ with maximal dimension and all points in its interior are realized by compact $f$-invariant sets and by periodic orbits in the rational case. Also, $f$ has uniformly bounded displacement with respect to rotation vectors in the boundary of the rotation set. This implies, in case where $f$ is area preserving, that the rotation vector of Lebesgue measure belongs to the interior of the rotation set.

Let $f$ be an $n$-dimensional holomorphic map defined in a neighborhood of the origin such that the origin is an isolated fixed point of all of its iterates, and let ${\mathcal{N}}_{M}(f)$ denote the number of periodic orbits of $f$ of period $M$ hidden at the origin. Gorbovickis gives an efficient way of computing ${\mathcal{N}}_{M}(f)$ for a large class of holomorphic maps. Inspired by Gorbovickis’ work, we establish a similar method for computing ${\mathcal{N}}_{M}(f)$ for a much larger class of holomorphic germs, in particular, having arbitrary Jordan matrices as their linear parts. Moreover, we also give another proof of the result of Gorbovickis [On multi-dimensional Fatou bifurcation. Bull. Sci. Math.138(3)(2014) 356–375] using our method.

It is proved that a symplectic twist map of the cotangent bundle $T^{\ast }\mathbb{T}^{d}$ of the $d$-dimensional torus that is without conjugate points is $C^{0}$-integrable, that is  $T^{\ast }\mathbb{T}^{d}$ is foliated by a family of invariant $C^{0}$ Lagrangian graphs.

An isotopic to the identity map of the 2-torus, that has zero rotation vector with respect to an invariant ergodic probability measure, has a fixed point by a theorem of Franks. We give a version of this result for nilpotent subgroups of isotopic to the identity diffeomorphisms of the 2-torus. In such a context we guarantee the existence of global fixed points for nilpotent groups of irrotational diffeomorphisms. In particular, we show that the derived group of a nilpotent group of isotopic to the identity diffeomorphisms of the 2-torus has a global fixed point.

In this paper we consider $C^{\infty }$-generic families of area-preserving diffeomorphisms of the torus homotopic to the identity and their rotation sets. Let $f_{t}:\text{T}^{2}\rightarrow \text{T}^{2}$ be such a family, $\widetilde{f}_{t}:\mathbb{R}^{2}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{2}$ be a fixed family of lifts and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}(\widetilde{f}_{t})$ be their rotation sets, which we assume to have interior for $t$ in a certain open interval $I$. We also assume that some rational point $(p/q,l/q)\in \unicode[STIX]{x2202}\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}(\widetilde{f}_{\overline{t}})$ for a certain parameter $\overline{t}\in I$, and we want to understand the consequences of the following hypothesis: for all $t>\overline{t}$, $t\in I$, $(p/q,l/q)\in \text{int}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}(\widetilde{f}_{t}))$. Under these very natural assumptions, we prove that there exists a $f_{\overline{t}}^{q}$-fixed hyperbolic saddle $P_{\overline{t}}$ such that its rotation vector is $(p/q,l/q)$. We also prove that there exists a sequence $t_{i}>\overline{t}$, $t_{i}\rightarrow \overline{t}$, such that if $P_{t}$ is the continuation of $P_{\overline{t}}$ with the parameter, then $W^{u}(\widetilde{P}_{t_{i}})$ (the unstable manifold) has quadratic tangencies with $W^{s}(\widetilde{P}_{t_{i}})+(c,d)$ (the stable manifold translated by $(c,d)$), where $\widetilde{P}_{t_{i}}$ is any lift of $P_{t_{i}}$ to the plane. In other words, $\widetilde{P}_{t_{i}}$ is a fixed point for $(\widetilde{f}_{t_{i}})^{q}-(p,l)$, and $(c,d)\neq (0,0)$ are certain integer vectors such that $W^{u}(\widetilde{P}_{\overline{t}})$ do not intersect $W^{s}(\widetilde{P}_{\overline{t}})+(c,d)$, and these tangencies become transverse as $t$ increases. We also prove that, for $t>\overline{t}$, $W^{u}(\widetilde{P}_{t})$ has transverse intersections with $W^{s}(\widetilde{P}_{t})+(a,b)$, for all integer vectors $(a,b)$, and thus one may consider that the tangencies above are associated to the birth of the heteroclinic intersections in the plane that do not exist for $t\leq \overline{t}$.

In this paper, we show that for every nonnilpotent hyperbolic map $f$ on an infra-nilmanifold, the set $\operatorname{HPer}(f)$ is cofinite in $\mathbb{N}$. This is a generalization of a similar result for expanding maps in Lee and Zhao (J. Math. Soc. Japan 59(1) (2007), 179–184). Moreover, we prove that for every nilpotent map $f$ on an infra-nilmanifold, $\operatorname{HPer}(f)=\{1\}$.

Let M > 1 be a positive number. Let be a family of holomorphic functions f in some domain D ⊂ ℂ for which there exists an integer k = k(f) > 2 such that |(fk)′(ζ)| ≤ Mk for every periodic point ζ of period k of f in D. We show first that is quasinormal of order at most one in D. This strengthens a result of W. Bergweiler. Secondly, for the case M = 1, we prove that is normal in D if there exists a positive number K < 3 such that | f(η)| ≤ K for each f ∈ and every fixed point η of f in D. This improves a result of M. Esséen and S. J. Wu. We also construct an example which shows that the condition |f’(η)| ≤ K < 3 can not be replaced by | f′(η) | < 3.

Global convergence is established in this paper for monotone and subhomogeneous discrete dynamical systems on product Banach spaces. This result is then used to obtain the asymptotic periodicity of solutions to a class of periodic and cooperative reaction-diffusion systems.
