The main purpose of this note is to thank Rachel Cowgill for all her work as editor of the Journal. Rachel served a double term of six years, during which time she oversaw (among other things) a change of publishers, edited dozens of outstanding articles and contributed to international conferences and student workshops on behalf of the Journal. It seems fitting that this, her final issue, happens to reflect her research interests in British music, particularly of the twentieth century. As the incoming editor, I am extremely grateful for all the advice and support she has offered during the handover.

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage submissions to the Journal: we will consider articles on any musical subject, Western and non-Western, classical and popular, from any period; our only consideration is scholarly excellence. Articles should normally be no longer than 15,000 words. We are able to include audio-visual materials in the online versions, copyright allowing. Further information on how to submit articles can be found on our website.

The Journal is introducing a ‘Round Table’ section, which will feature short, stimulating discussions of current issues in the field (such as recent approaches to modernism, the relationship between historical musicology and ethnomusicology, and what musicology and sound studies might offer one another), and welcomes proposals for topics and contributors.
