Extract

1. The development of S. duttoni and S. recurrentis was studied in lice.

2. After penetrating the anterior part of the midgut spirochaetes were seen in the haemocoele, haemocytes, neural ganglia and muscles of lice. They were never seen elsewhere.

3. The haemocytes of infected lice sometimes contained coarse granules believed to be the breakdown products of spirochaetes due to phagocytosis.
