An Unusual Form of Parasitism of an Anthomyid Fly

In the course of a study of the bionomics of Hylemyia (Chortophila) brassicae Bouché, the Cabbage Root Fly, a small number of adults of this and a closely allied species were observed in the field to possess a somewhat unusual appearance. The capture and subsequent microscopical examination of these flies showed that they were parasitised by a micro-organism, which appears to be a fungus.
