If you want to publish Open Access, and your manuscript deals with a geoscience or related topic in the wider North Sea area, publishing in the Netherlands Journal of Geosciences should be your first choice.
With an editorial board consisting of specialists from a wide range of backgrounds, we can handle manuscripts ranging from archeo-geology to palaeontology, sedimentology, regional geology studies and hydrogeology.
We also publish Special Issues dedicated to themes such as Induced Seismicity, the palaeontology of the Maastrichtian or geothermal energy. For these Special Issues, we always work with a dedicated group of guest editors who have established networks in their areas of expertise.
Our Impact Factor has significantly increased over the past few years, which is clearly testament to the quality of the work we publish as well as the fact that all manuscripts are publicly available through the Cambridge University Press website.
In addition, the journal has a rich history of publishing geoscientific content that dates back to 1923. All publications have been scanned in recent years and can be viewed and downloaded through the KNGMG website.
Finally, the editorial board actively promotes papers published in the journal through social media channels (LinkedIn and Twitter) as well as through the recording of podcasts in which authors of papers are being interviewed about the background to their work.
Upcoming Collection: 175th Anniversary: Introduction of Maastrichtian Stage
Forthcoming collection
During the last three decades our knowledge on the stratigraphy and palaeontology of the Maastrichtian Stage in its type area has increased considerably. Celebrations in 1999, with a travelling exhibit and a Special Issue published in 2003, clearly demonstrated that research into the Maastrichtian Stage is still very much alive and kicking. The discovery of several mosasaur specimens, bird and mammal fossils and interesting Cretaceous-Paleogene (K/Pg) boundary sections in the environs of Maastricht have contributed significantly to this.
For the year 2024, which sees the 175th anniversary of the type-Maastrichtian (having been introduced by Dumont in the summer of 1849), the plan is to have a workshop on all aspects of the Maastrichtian (ranging from palaeontology, geochemistry to palaeobiogeography), coupled with a special session devoted to its iconic marine lizard, the mosasaurs. At this event, we also aim to present a new NJG Special Issue dedicated to the research performed on the Maastrichtian over the past 25 years.
