All together now: Integrating biofilm research across disciplines
All together now: Integrating biofilm research across disciplines. This issue of MRS Bulletin includes a series of cross-disciplinary articles focused on biofilms, which are surface-associated bacterial communities. The images on the cover broadly represent a critical message of these articles–there is a pressing need for communication and interaction across disciplines to understand these complex bacterial communities. The images also reflect the interconnections among multi-tasking microbes that comprise these complex microbial assemblages. Follow each “app” to explore a different aspect of biofilm science–both to see where the field has been and, more importantly, where it might go. See the technical theme that begins on p. 339.
