We report a case of Kikuchi's disease presenting as cervical lymphadenopathy in an adolescent. The original histololgical diagnosis in this case was a metastatic neoplasm. We wish to highlight the importance of this rare condition because of its potential for mimicking malignancy.

Fifty patients with diabetes mellitus of varying duration were divided into two groups according to whether they were on treatment with insulin or not. Nasal mucosal blood flow was investigated and the results were compared with a reference material from healthy subjects, and were also related to the degree of retinopathy. Patients with diabetes mellitus had normal mucosal blood flow. There was no correlation between the duration of diabetes and nasal blood flow, nor was there any correlation between the degree of retinopathy and nasal blood flow. Diabetes mellitus does not seem to be accompanied by changes in blood flow in the nasal mucosa.

Tinnitus is a common symptom in a variety of otologic diseases and is frequently accompanied by loss of hearing. In recent years, the pervasiveness of the problem of subjective tinnitus has stimulated research with the following goals: to determine the frequency of tinnitus in certain diseases; to identify the anatomical source of ‘the noise’; to discover the neural mechanisms which generate this auditory pheonomena; and to find appropriate treatments.

This paper is to attempt to show an objective correlation between the symptoms of tinnitus and the subsequent, if any, onset of symptoms consistent with those of Menière's disease. Tinnitus associated with Menière's disease is low frequency in quality and characterized as roaring and buzzing. The tinnitus and fluctuant hearing loss may precede the attack of vertigo by days, months, or even years (Hester, 1982). These correlations seem to center around the frequency of the tinnitus. Since pitch matching is tonal in character (McFadden, 1982), accuracy of this procedure is of questionable value. Pitch matching procedures are subject to octave errors—that is, settings for a match that are actually twice or one-half the frequency of the sound being matched (Vernon, 1982). Clinical historical judgement and pitch match testing were combined to identify the frequency of tinnitus below 4000 Hz, between 4000 and 8000 Hz, and above 8000 Hz. Clinical observations have led to the subjective conclusions that in many cases, but not all, tinnitus is the harbinger of Meniere's disease.
