The innermost region of slim accretion disks with standard α viscosity is unstable against axisymmetric radial inertial acoustic perturbations under certain conditions. Numerical simulations are performed in order to demonstrate behaviors of such unstable disks. It is shown that oscillations with the period of ~ 10−3(MBH/M⊙) s can be excited near the inner edge of the disks, where MBH is the mass of the central object. This kind of unstable disks is a possible origin of the periodic X-ray time variabilities with period of ~ 104s observed in a Seyfert galaxy NGC 6814.

We study the long-term variations of Balmer line profiles due to global one-armed oscillations in Be-star disks. In order to examine the qualitative effects of oscillations on line profiles, we assume that the eigenfunctions of one-armed nonlinear oscillations are similar to those of linear oscillations. Computing the line profiles for various values of disk parameters, we find that in small disks or in disks with steep density gradients the one-armed fundamental modes cause remarkable variabilities similar to the observed V/R variations.

This paper investigates the tidal effect on accretion disk in CVs and sets up a simplified model in which the secondary’s gravitation is substituted by a mean tidal torque. We find that a linear tidal torque will not be able to maintain an equilibrium disk. By using the result of the radius of the equilibrium disk approximately equals to the tidal radius, which was obtained by using the two dimensional numerical simulation invoking nonlinear tidal effect, we give the modified tidal dissipation function for our simplified model which could be used to interpret the outburst of the dwarf nova with tidal effect. The paper also shows that the radius of an equilibrium disk with a torus is slightly small than the Lubow-Shu radius, and the tidal effect may also cause the cycle of quiescence-superoutburst in addition to the cycle of quiescence-outbursts-superoutburst.

AGN (Active Galactic Nuclei) have their profound time variability over a wide range of time scales. Although many results of AGN variability have been provided from wide band wavelength observations, I would like to concentrate the recent problems concerning a nearby region of their central engine based on the X-ray observations which are most efficient to investigate this region. In this paper we will investigate mainly the result of Seyfert galaxies which would be generalized to other AGN.
