Violencia manejable en una nueva sala para pacientes agudos

Resumen

Tanto la experiencia clínica como la investigación anterior han indicado que el uso de personal nuevo puede estar fuertemente asociado con un mayor número de incidentes violentos en una sala psiquiátrica. En 1991, se seleccionó un número sustancial de empleados para una sala para pacientes recluidos. Se registraron los incidentes violentos durante el periodo siguiente de 12 meses. Los resultados de este estudio se compararon con los incidentes violentos registrados antes en un escenario previo. Se encontró que era posible mantener la frecuencia de los incidentes violentos en un nivel bajo y estable a pesar de la nueva situatión. En conclusión, se puede esperar que cierto número de factores afecte a los resultados: la farmacoterapia específica en el tratamiento de la psicosis aguda, el ambiente físico de la sala y, en particular, la formación del personal.
