Note
1 In Violence and the Sacred, Girard argues against the structuralism that he accuses Lacan of sharing with Freud (René Girard, Violence and the Sacred, [Baltimore, MD: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1977]). However, Girard's vocabulary is fundamentally Lacanian, and he joins with Lacan in his efforts to displace the Oedipus complex as a foundational motivation.
