CEH is one of the leading journals in modern European history. Since its inception in the early nineties, shortly after the collapse of Communism in the Soviet Union, it has provided a home for cutting-edge research on twentieth-century European history. We publish outstanding articles that deal with local and national contexts, but we also actively encourage the development of regional and transnational approaches. Even when focussing on local issues, articles that have appeared in CEH often create connections between countries and regions across all of Europe and the European overseas empires. As well as innovative research articles, the journal publishes historiographical overviews, review articles, and roundtable discussions on more contemporary topics. It also hosts special issues and smaller fora, which showcase exciting new scholarship around a focused theme.
CEH aims to be accessible to a wide audience. Our authors understand that their work has a broader significance which goes beyond their immediate scholarly interests. And our readers look to the journal in order to expand their regional, theoretical and empirical horizons.
