1. In Eastern Nigeria, frustrated Christians also entered into multiple marriages, as we learn from an Anglican missionary at Onitsha (CMS Archives, G3/A3/O, J. A. Robinson to Lang, November 5, 1887).
Stephen Obori who ceased to be employed as our interpreter…and who often preached in the church and has great influence with Onitsha Christians has now become a Polygamist, with four wives. The influence of this action on the Native converts (who say that S. Obori must know what is right as he has read the Bible right thro'! and preached in the church) is very disastrous. There is no consideration which deserves more careful attention in the discussion of the question of admitting polygamists to baptism than this evident tendency among our converts to revert to Polygamy.
