Summary
This chapter lays out a pessimistic view of the battle for the future. Catastrophes lurk, from war to climate change to new pandemics to the degeneration of cyberspace into a toxic and treacherous blight. It also examines the internal contradictions embodied in Chinese hegemony and argues against that admittedly second-best solution working to protect the world from these threats.
