Articles for the Cathedrall Church of Wells to be inquired of in his graces metropoliticall visitation
1. Whether everie member of this church at his first admission doth sweare to observe such statuts, as have byn hitherto used as statuts, and not contrarie to the lawes of the realme of England?
2. What other benefices ecclesiasticall the deane, archdeacons, prebendaries or other ecclesiasticall persons of this church have besides their roomes and places in this said church?
3. Have the xlii, xliii and xliiii chapters of the constitutions, made the last convocation anno 1604 and confirmed by his maiestie under the great seale of England, for the residencies of your deane and other prebendaries aswell upon their prebends as upon their other benefices, are observed?2
4. Whether the number of those that serve the quire, and all other ministers of this church be kept full, and the quire sufficientlie furnished with able singers, and daylie service there sange accordinge to the foundation of this church?
5. Whether your divine service be used and the sacraments administred in due tyme, and accordinge to the booke of common prayer and by singinge and note accordinge to the statuts of this church?
6. Whether all the members of your church especiallie the prebendaries and ecclesiasticall persons doe use seemelie garments and attires, as namelie all graduats their surplice and hood for their degree of schoole, and other inferiors their surplice and capp accordinge to the cannons and constitutions sett forth by his maiestie in the last convocation in anno domini 1604?
7. Whether the prebendaries and preachers of your church doe preach yearlie the full number of sermons appointed by the statuts and ordinances of the said church and the late constitutions ecclesiasticall, in their owne persons, or by others, and who doth most usuallie preach them, and howe often have you sermons or lectures in the weeke in the cathedrall church and by whom, and what be the statuts of this church in that behalfe?
