Summary

Many Afrikaans were provided with compensation during and after the war in several commissions. Astonishingly, despite British success, the British also ended up paying indemnity to the Boers. This was one of the only times in history in which a victor paid a vanquished side. The chapter will focus on the rationale behind this and deal with the broader war and peace shifts at the close of the 20th century.
