Summary
Knowledge of the anatomy of the vessels that supply and drain the brain was clearly crucial for advances in diagnosis and treatment. Many anatomical studies were performed by neurologists and neurosurgeons who were also clinicians. Some research focused on single arteries or single brain territories. Highlighted herein are some of the researchers and their contributions.
