Summary
Carotid revascularization includes all procedures that open clogged carotid arteries to restore blood flow to the brain. While the first traditional carotid surgery (carotid endarterectomy) was reported in 1951, it was not until 1977 that percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of the internal carotid artery (ICA) was attempted by Andreas Gruentzig.
