Summary
There is an enhanced awareness that, with the baby boomers now turning 65, there will be an increased demand for access to psychological therapies by older people. Outmoded and misconceived notions that older people do not want psychological therapy or older people will not benefit from psychological therapy have to be addressed in order that the healthcare workforce is ready for an ageing society [1]. This chapter will provide an overview of the range of psychological therapies demonstrated to be helpful for depression and anxiety disorders in later life.
