Title
1. PORT HARCOURT OPTIMISTS.
Constitution
2. That this Society shall consist of all Lovers of Music, Male and Female, temporarily or permanently resident in Port Harcourt, in Nigeria, provided they satisfactorily comply with the terms of membership.
Object
3. To promote the Social and intellectual development and mutual relations among its members; and to elevate the technical and general knowledge and proficiency of Musicians therein, and the rendering thereof by means of Services, Lectures, Singing Competitions, Piano Recitals, Dramatical Concerts etc., and generally to watch over and protect the interest of members for the time being of the Society. (sic)
Regular Meeting
4. The Regular Meeting shall be held at the Office of the President on the first Saturday in every month at the hour of 7 o'clock p.m. or any other place and time as the President or his Deputy may determine.
Emergency Meeting
5. Emergency Meeting may at any time be called when necessary on instructions from the President, in his absence, his Deputy.
Officers
6. The officers of the society shall consist of the following: President, Deputy President, Treasurer, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Auditors and a Musical Director.
Duties of Officers
7. The President shall preside and manage the affairs at all meetings of the Society, and in his absence the Deputy President shall communicate with the Secretary for the summoning of Emergent (sic.) Meetings. And on all matters affecting the interest of the society. (sic.) The President shall have a common vote, and a casting vote when necessary.
(a) The Treasurer shall be responsible to the Society for all monies received by him, from the Secretary and the Financial Secretary, and for a proper account of all authorized disbursement of the same—He shall open a current account with the Bank of British West Africa and shall have as CoTrustees the President and Secretary. The Treasurer alone shall pay all current and other expenses in connection with the Liabilities of the Society. He shall prepare at the end of every quarter a statement of Accounts to be read at the General Meeting—A pay order Voucher to the Treasurer dully (sic.) signed and approved by the Secretary and President shall support all Payments from the funds of the Society.
All Cheques for withdrawal of monies from the Bank must be countersigned by the President.
