Convocatio praelatorum et cleri Cantuariensis provinciae, facta per reverendissimum in Christo patrem et dominum Dominum Henricum, Dei gratia Cantuariensem archiepiscopum, totius Angliae primatem et apostolicae sedis legatum, in ecclesia Sancti Pauli Londoniarum, nono die mensis Novembris anno Domini MCCCCXV[I]mo, indictione decima, apostolica sede pastore carente, et anno translationis dicti reverendissimi patris tertio.

Monday 9 November 1416

Dicto nono die Novembris praefatus reverendissimus pater Cantuariensis archiepiscopus dictam [6v] ecclesiam Sancti Pauli adivit ibidemque missam de Sancto Spiritu pro felici expeditione eiusdem convocationis solemniter celebravit, assistentibus et ministrantibus eidem in celebratione eiusdem missae suffraganeis suis videlicet Iohanne Eliensi, Roberto Herefordensi, Thoma Wigorniensi, Philippo Lincolniensi, Benedicto Bangorensi, Iohanne Landavensi et Stephano Menevensi episcopis. Qua sic celebrata et finita, idem reverendissimus pater cum suffraganeis suis praedictis aliisque praelatis et clero Cantuariensis provinciae inibi congregatis accessit ad capellam Beatae Mariae eiusdem ecclesiae Sancti Pauli. Et facta collatione ibidem per venerabilem in Christo patrem Iohannem Dei gratia episcopum Landavensem, sumpto pro themate ‘Videte [enim] vocationem vestram' lectum fuit certificatorium venerabilis viri Magistri Richardi Bruton ecclesiae Wellensis cancellarii ac reverendi in Christo patris et domini Domini Richardi, Dei gratia Londoniensis episcopi in remotis agentis vicarii in spiritualibus generalis tenorem de verbo ad verbum continens subsequentem:

Reverendissimo in Christo patri ac domino Domino Henrico, Dei gratia Cantuariensi Archiepiscopo, totius Angliae primati et apostolicae sedis legato, vestrisve in hac parte locum tenentibus seu commissariis quibuscunque Richardus Bruton ecclesiae cathedralis Wellensis cancellarius, reverendi in Christo patris ac domini Domini Richardi, Dei gratia Londoniensis episcopi, in remotis agentis vicarii in spiritualibus generalis oboedientiam et reverentiam tanto patri debitam cum honore. Mandatum vestrum undecimo die mensis Octobris proximo praeterito [11 October 1416] cum reverentia qua decuit recepimus tenorem continens subsequentem:

Henricus, permissione divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopus, totius Angliae primas et apostolicae sedis legatus, venerabili fratri nostro Domino Richardo, Dei gratia Londoniensi episcopo seu ipso in remotis agente eius vicario in spiritualibus generali salutem et sinceram in Domino caritatem. Urgens causarum negotiorum et rerum ingruentium necessitas et ut speramus Ecclesiae Anglicanae necnon regis et regni Angliae utilitas nos impellunt ut fratres et clerum nostrae provinciae quorum consilio in arduis procedere intendimus in locum unum pro temporis op[p]ortunitate pariter convocemus.
