The royal writ for a parliament on 11 September 1346

Edwardus, Dei gratia rex Angliae et Franciae et dominus Hiberniae, venerabili in Christo patri Willelmo, eadem gratia archiepiscopo Eboracensi, salutem. Cum de avisamento concilii nostri ordinavimus quod super variis et arduis negotiis tarn nos et expeditionem guerrae nostrae ac iura nostra et coronae nostrae in partibus transmarinis, quam statum et defensionem regni nostri Angliae contingentibus, quoddam parliamentum nostrum apud Westmonasterium, die Lunae proximo post ferstum Nativitatis Beatae Mariae Virginis proximo futuro [11 September 1346] teneatur, et ibidem cum praelatis, magnatibus et proceribus dicti regni nostri Angliae tractatus et colloquium habeantur, propter quod mandaverimus diversis praelatis, comitibus, baronibus et aliis proceribus dicti regni nostri, quod consideratis ictorum negotiorum arduitate et periculis imminentibus, cessante quacunque excusatione, dictis die et loco personaliter intersint, nobiscum seu cum custode eiusdem regni nostri, si tune contigerit nos abesse, super negotiis praedictis tractaturi, suumque consilium impensuri. Et quia modernis temporibus super salvatione et defensione marchiae Scotiae estis multipliciter occupati, vobis in fide et dilectione uibus nobis tenemini firmiter iniungendo mandamus, quod dictis negotiis et periculis per vos debite ponderatis, aliquem idoneum procuratorem in quo bene confiditis de voluntate et intentione vestris plenius informatum ad dictum diem et locum mittatis, ad consentiendum his quae tune [ibidem] per dictos praelatos, comites et alios proceres ordinari contigerit super negotiis antedictis. Et hoc sicut de vobis confidimus et nos et honorem nostrum et vestrum, ac recuperationem iurium nostrorum praedictorum, salvationemque et defensionem dicti regni nostri Angliae diligitis, nullatenus omittatis. Teste Lionello filio nostro, custode Angliae apud Windsor, tricesimo die Iulii anno regni nostri Angliae vicesimo, anno vero regni nostri Franciae septimo [30 July 1346].

The archbishop to the bishop of Durham

Willelmus etc. venerabili fratri nostro Domino Thomae, Dei gratia Dunelmensi episcopo eiusve vicario in spiritualibus generali aut officiali cuicunque, salutem et fraternam in Domino caritatem. Breve regium nuper recepimus in haec verba:

Edwardus, Dei gratia rex Angliae et Franciae et dominus Hiberniae venerabili in Christo patri Willelmo, eadem gratia archiepiscopo Eboracensi Angliae primati, salutem.
