Rex dilecto sibi in Christo abbati Sancti Augustini Cantuariensis, salutem. In parliamento nostro apud Eboracum convocato, de consensu praelatorum, comitum, baronum et aliorum fidelium nostrorum de regno nostro nobiscum in eodem parliamento existentium, assumpsimus esse in propria persona nostra cum equis et armis apud Novum Castrum super Tynam in octabis Sanctae Trinitatis proximo futuris [ 10 June 1319] ad proficiscendum exinde contra Scotos inimicos et rebelles nsotros, qui nobis damna quamplurima ac incolis dicti regni in partibus marchiae Scotiae commorantibus, strages, incendia, depraedationes et alia facinora quamplurima pluries intulerunt, et inferre conantur quotidie quantum possunt; ad dictorum inimicorum nostrorum malitiam, divina mediante potentia, reprimendam. Ad quod faciendum et aggrediendum nobis oportebit de magna summa pecuniae provideri. Et quia venerabilis pater Willelmus archiepiscopus Eboracensis in dicto parliamento praesens pro se et clero suo Eboracensis provinciae nos posuit in spe bona concedendi nobis auxilium ex causa praedicta, et super hoc convocationem faciat apud Eboracum in octabis Sancti Hilarii proximo futuris [20 January 1319] et praelatis Cantuariensis provinciae qui ibidem fuerunt propter absentiam Cantuariensis archiepiscopi super concessione huiusmodi nobis facienda se excusantibus; propter quod eundem Cantuariensem archiepiscopum duximus requirendum quod praelatos, et alios de clero provinciae suae apud Londonias in crastino Purificationis Beatae Mariae proximo futuro [3 February 1319], ad tractandum et consentiendum super huiusmodi subsidio nobis faciendo faciat convocare. Nos de vobis specialiter confidentes, sperantes etiam, quod pro utilitate regni nostri et salvatione eiusdem ac ecclesiae sanctae et populi ibidem contra inimicos nostros praedictos in dicto negotio velitis manus extendere adiutrices; vos affectuose requirimus et rogamus quod praefato archiepiscopo Cantuariensi in dicto crastino Londoniis ad tractandum et consentiendum una cum ipso, praelatis et clero provinciae suae super subsidio memorato, modis omnibus occuratis; adeo liberales in dicto subsidio nobis concedendo vos in tantae necessitatis articulo exhibentes, quod nos in agendis vestris et domus vestrae, invenire debeatis ex hac causa imposterum prompti. Teste rege apud Eboracum, primo die Decembris [1 December 1318].
